It's a beautiful lake and you can really relax here. Other reviews are accurate and this property can be described as a "classic lake home." The beds were very comfortable and our simple requirements of a bbq and a fire pit by the lake were very well met. Kim answered all questions very quickly. Great host...and a nice puppy.

Well, all I have to say about my stay is Wow! I got to stay in a warm, cozy and a very spacious downstairs of a two story home that overlooks the most beautiful quiet private lake. I was very close to the lake. There is a paddle boat and other boats to use for fishing and touring and a nice dock for enjoying that lake from shore. You get a fully equipt Kitchen, no food just all the essentials an even a laundry too. There is full bath an 3 beds and bunk beds for the kids too! This is a pet friendly retreat! I caught a bass right off the dock. Kim the homeowner, gave me a tour all around the lake on this big flat touring boat, that was the highlight of my stay, just sit back and enjoy! I had so much relaxing fun I can't wait to book it again. I will definately be taking pictures next time to share this heavenly area with you all, maybe... I kinda wanna keep this as my secret place.

The property is amazing and absolutely beautiful. I love that there are several different options as to where to sit outside (patio, yard bench overlooking the lake, the fire pit on the lake and the lake dock. Tooling around the lake on the pontoon was relaxing (and I'm not a water person). My family loved fishing off the pontoon as well as jumping off of it into the water with our dog. Kim was a fabulous host. Answered my texts promptly and was very accommodating. Kim you have a heart of gold to open your home to folks to allow them to experience the slice of heaven you get to experience daily. I would definitely book again.

This place is really awesome. The owner was very helpful. The lake was clean and the property provided life jackets, a paddle boat and had a boat for rent. We spent a week and and would go back again. Just a few things- nothing negative just be aware you will need some good backing skills for the driveway. It’s totally doable but for our big SUV, it was a little tight. And- if you plan to spend some time and use this as a base camp- please do yourself a favor and plan at least one lake day. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and the doc area that’s provided has a place for campfire hotdogs and smores.

Fun Place to Stay on a Work Trip

Five of us from my small business in Montana traveled over for gymnastics training at our Region 2 Congress. The Ames Lake house was a fun and relaxing place to stay. Even though we were gone and busy all day, we liked sitting on the dock in the evening, and the kitchen was adequate for cooking our breakfasts and dinners. We slept well. Thanks for a great stay!

Great stay!

Kim has great communication. We arrived really late and in the dark and there was some confusion on our part of a locked door (figured out later it was locked on the outside but not inside) and Kim came out and helped us get in. She’s a gem! The basement apartment is dated but it reminded me of staying at a family’s home. For what it is and where it’s at, it’s pretty great. The little lake adds to the charm.

Really a magical place. The lake was beautiful.

My family had such a great time at the lake. The house was spotless. Very informative owner. We had use of the dock and boat. And spent most of our time there. Well stocked and caring. Really didn’t want to leave.

more of a camp

This place seemed more of a camp than an apartment. Being in the basement, it was cold and damp even with a dehumidifier. There was a damp smell that we tried to cover up with air fresheners. Kim was a very nice and accommodating host.

Peace and quiet in a busy area.

It has been some time since we were in the Seattle area and were amazed at how much the area has grown and how congested it always seems to be. We were looking for something off the beaten path not too far from Seattle, and Ames Lake fit the bill. The lake is small (about 80 acres), quiet, and lovely. We enjoyed unusually nice weather while in the Seattle area in early October, sunny, and a little cool, and sitting by the lake enjoying some wine was the perfect way to end our busy days. The rental itself is a lower level walkout, with private living quarters above. It is spacious and clean. As someone else mentioned in a review, the carpet could use replacing, but that certainly didn't create any problems for us. We had some friends in the area who decided to join us at the last minute, and the ability to bring their two dogs made it possible for them to come along as well. If you are looking for something really upscale, this isn't the place for you, otherwise you'll enjoy what this rental offers at an affordable price.

Ants Everywhere

We knew from the photos and reviews that this property is very dated, and that was fine with us, but the unexpected ant issue was really terrible. Over the week, we killed HUNDREDS of very large black ants in EVERY room of the apartment. I bought ant traps the first day we were there (what a lovely way to start a vacation!) and asked the host to also address the issue. She said previous guests had left "crumbs" everywhere, but the ants were in every single room of the apartment, not just the kitchen. It was gross. I absolutely would have sought out an alternate place to stay except I figured I would never get my money back from VRBO and we just could not afford to double down for a hotel all week. In addition, the bathtub and bathroom sink drained very slowly, and the kitchen sink faucet was broken such that it would only stay on if it was at full blast, or it shut itself off. When guests refer to the apartment as "dated," it's things like the one toilet being round (not elongated as most are now) and low to the ground that you will really notice. It was also very cold in the apartment. The thermostat was controlled by the main house upstairs, so we could not control it. We texted the host immediately upon arrival asking that it be turned up as it was 59 degrees in the apartment. The gas fireplace was a wonderful source of heat but only for the main room/kitchen. The bedrooms were cold. I would not allow a child to sleep in the top bunk of the bunkbed because the floor below is cement with various pieces of remnant carpet on it. It would be a very hard fall if someone rolled out of the bed. My sons did use the paddleboat and that was fun until we noticed that a crack in the bottom that had been previously sealed was leaking, so we did not allow them to use it again since the boom was taking on water on one side. This house sits on a pretty lake in a very nice location, quite convenient to Seattle. It was quiet and private as advertised. It is also very spacious. I was grateful for the washer and dryer. It was dated and not fancy, but I expected that for the price and I was totally fine with that. The ant situation was terrible and really made it hard to enjoy our time in the space. It was not relaxing.

Disappointing overall. I will say that Kim’s directions to the property were very accurate and it was easy to find. She was very responsive to us while we were there. However, the basement unit smelled like mildew. Two of the beds were unusable because they smelled like urine and mildew. I spent 20 minutes cleaning the coffee maker and the washing machine had black mold in it, making it unusable. The property was in a beautiful location on the lake. However there was decades of debris all around, and it was a shame that what could have been a fabulous view of the lake was obscured by overgrown trees and bushes. After leaving, our clothes smelled like mildew. Definitely not a good value for the price. I would recommend avoiding this one.

Summer fun on Ames Lake

We wanted a private PNW lake getaway and we found it! We swam, sat by the fire pit, paddleboarded, fished and tooled around in our electric boat while totally decompressing. If you want fancy or modern, this is not your place. If you want a quiet place with no frillls and an awesome lake front stay, here it is.

Great location on the lake and well located for the wedding we were attending in Monroe. Reasonably well equipped kitchen. For 4 or more only 1 bathroom can lead to a queue but it’s hardly a major issue. 6 nights. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good location, great host but the property is dated

The good: Great location- right on a beautiful lake. The host provides access to boats. Kim is very helpful, and easy to reach. The house is in a nice little community- good place to relax with family/friends, hike, boat, etc. The appliances seemed to be working fine. There was hot water. The not so good: The property is very old with a weird layout. There is unsecured storage area in one side of the property. Everything in the house is very dated. The written instructions by owner for sleeper couch literally said it can slice through sheets. Coffee mugs were dirty. No dishwasher.

Comfy respite on Ames Lake

We stayed here while we had work done on our house nearby. Not fancy but perfect if you want a comfortable, low-key place that's big enough to handle a group or family (with dogs!). Ames Lake is a sweet little lake with no motor traffic—ideal for kiddos on a hot afternoon or a quiet morning/evening on the dock. Easy access to Carnation/Remlinger Farm, Woodinville, Snoqualmie, and the Cascades. If you want fussy, resort-style living, keep looking. For what we needed, this is a five-star spot: clean, private, spacious, well-stocked, and priced right. We were there for a wet and chilly week in November—naturally!—and were toasty and comfortable. Kim is an attentive host, communicative, but not in your way. Happy to recommend.

Lovely lake and privacy

We enjoyed our stay! Spotlessly clean, and the lake is beautifully tucked away so you feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere, but really only 20 minutes drive to many grocery stores and restaurants. Kim, the host, was very communicative, and she lives on the upper floor, so if we needed her she was right there, yet, she also let us have our privacy. We enjoyed the paddle boat and decided to rent the pontoon--and we also did a bit of fishing--really enjoyed our time at this house. A few things I think should be noted about the space--These are not necessarily negatives, but just good FYI: --If you're sharing the space with another family make sure you know them well as the master bedroom's patio door is the main entrance/exit to the lake. There is a second entrance, but that space was filled with construction remnants and dust, so with kids we opted to just go thru the master bedroom's patio door. --The single bathroom has two doors (one from the master and the other from the hallway and neither doors lock). --The kids' bedroom and the extra room are linked--you have to go thru the kids' room to get to that extra bedroom. Both of these rooms leaned on the colder/darker side, as I think this might have been a converted garage space. --There are two, short sets of stairs to get to the dock/lake. They are relatively steep. Because of this those that have mobility issues or aging parents may have a hard time.
