About this property

Garden Cottage, Far From The Maddening Crowd but so close to the night life!

This 550 sq ft private cottage, built in the 1940's is 15 minutes from the Arts District, 7 minutes from Bishop Arts, 15 minutes to World Trade Center, close to downtown, but quiet & secluded, nestled at the end of a cul de sac on Cedar Creek in Elmwood, Oak Cliff. With private gardens, Texas natives, mature shady trees, front porch with chairs, it's a perfect spot to unwind and relax after a day of exploring the many sights in Dallas or Ft. Worth, or a comfortable retreat to spend on contemplation & reflection after a day of work. The cottage is very quiet and private.
Queen bed with high quality bedding, fluffy towels, robes. Large shower with quality shampoos, conditioners & soaps/shower gels.
You also have an outdoor patio with chiminea supplied with wood and seating as well as table & chairs for dining al fresco. You will feel that you are in the country but so close to night life. It is also perfect for honeymoons, with lots of privacy and romantic touches.
Right next to cottage is your own private parking under a carport. Right next to cottage we have just built a small dog run with a gate off of the porch. No big dogs. Note: This property does NOT have a fenced yard. Dogs must be on leashes when outside and not in dog run.
Across the driveway is the main house where we live. We can offer catered dinners in the very romantic backyard of this historic home, rumored to be a haunt of Bonnie & Clyde, as it was a speakeasy in the 1920’s.
Come, relax, enjoy! We will treat each guest special with individually thought out goodies! NOW THAT THE TEXAS STATE FAIR IS HERE, WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE DART WHICH GOES RIGHT TO IT, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO PARK THERE!

The greenery outside the cottage was awesome to look at, so this was not just a place to stay, I was able to enjoy nature and peaceful surrounding. The hosts treated me to a heavenly bakery croissant one morning and couldn't have been more accommodating. If I come that way, I will come back!

My fiancée and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage! Candice and Richard were amazing hosts. Check in was very straight forward. The property was pet friendly, they had bowls for water and pick-up bags available for when our dogs needed to go. The garden and outdoor table areas were lovely and gave a peaceful vide to the property. Candice and Richard were attentive and were available if we needed any help. Inside the Cottage was lovely and was the perfect atmosphere for a lil getaway. Candice and Richard left a list of wonderful recommendations for restaurants and coffee shops in the area. Overall this was a wonderful experience and am look forward to booking again on the next trip to Dallas.

My dog Whiskey and I had the pleasure of staying at Candice and Richard’s cottage for two months, and I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel completely at home. The cottage is cozy, charming, spotless, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a short getaway or an extended stay. Every detail has been carefully considered, making it feel more like a home than a rental. One of my favorite parts was the beautiful garden and peaceful outdoor space. It was the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or unwind after a long day. The location in historic Oak Cliff was ideal as well—quiet and relaxing while still being close to great restaurants, coffee shops, and everything Dallas has to offer. What truly sets this property apart, though, are Candice and Richard themselves. They are incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely care about their guests. The conversations we shared over the past two months became one of the highlights of my stay. They also went above and beyond to make Whiskey feel just as welcome as I was, which meant the world to me.If you’re looking for a place with character, comfort, and hosts who truly exemplify hospitality, this is it. I arrived as a guest and left feeling like I was saying goodbye to friends.Thank you both for an unforgettable stay. Whiskey and I hope to be back again soon.

Felt at home

The cozy cottage was ideal for our short stay in the Dallas area. While located next to the main house at the end of a cul-de-sac, it is still very private with beautiful landscaping and courtyard area. My wife was able to work remotely from the cottage while I was away and loved the nostalgic design of this old cottage. The owners were very nice and hospitable throughout our stay.

Weekend away

Driving in on a dark rainy day we were a little unsure about the location, but the cottage was so cute and very private. It’s obvious the owners spent a lot of time planning the garden and outdoor areas were because every inch of it feels perfectly placed and incredibly private and secluded, even though you are in a neighborhood with houses nearby. It was very cozy on a cold November weekend and exactly what we hoped for!

Charming Vintage Cottage

The cottage is super comfy, private, clean and artistically decorated, inside and out. The front porch and back gardens were perfect for morning coffee and relaxing after busy days spent exploring the area. Location is great- close to restaurants, bars, unique shops and a DART station. Quaint and comfortable

This charming cottage is delightful and is now our first choice for every visit to Dallas. A special bonus for us is that it is located a ten minute walk from our relatives’ house. The cottage is comfortable and relaxing. The hosts gave us a lot of information before we arrived. Inside we found a personalized welcome letter. There was ground coffee, orange juice, specialty bread and many other food items. We enjoyed the decor and framed art. Most of all, we felt appreciated and welcome.

About the host

Host profile image
We are creatives by nature. I am a photographer and Richard is a painter, sculptor as well as floral designer. We love to dance and are avid Argentine Tango Dancers. We created gardens around the Cottage to create a one of a kind private personal and romantic space for our guests. We treat each one of our guests individually, with different breakfast goodies. We are both Texans and grew up in Dallas, so if you need recommendations or a guided tour around town, we are available to help. Respecting your privacy, we are always on hand to answer any and all questions and are committed to making your stay a one of a kind experience.

Why they chose this property

The main house on the property was built in circa 1900 and has been through many metamorphoses. In the 1920's it was a well known "speakeasy" and gambling and dance hall. When we renovated the property in 1999, we found game table rivets in the floor. The back was originally the front of the property with a bridge over the creek. Rumor has it that lights would be shown up through the small cupola tower to let guests know if the club was open or not. This property comes alive at night with an ambience of frivolity and joy! We Iive right across the driveway in the main house.

What makes this property unique

We are at the end of a cul de sac on 3/4 or an acre, and although we are so close to the city, it is quiet and peaceful, and very private next to a creek with guest private gardens.
