About this property

Waterfront, no electricity, outhouse, cold water only, 4 adults max, 6 total

Step back in time. Our off-grid camp has no electricity. We have a small 10cuft. propane refrigerator and a propane stove, as well as a few propane lights. We have just cold running water at the sinks and outdoor shower. The water is not suitable for drinking; it is gravity fed to the cottage from the mountain stream. We supply 10 gallons of potable water for your stay. There is an indoor 1/2 bath but also an outhouse that we ask you to utilize to spare our primitive septic system. The Lake Cottage is a vintage Maine camp set within feet of the sandy beach of Concord Pond. It has a large grass yard, with a fire pit at water's edge and a babbling springtime stream in the back yard. There is good privacy with a small camp on one side and conservation land on the other. The water front is very private with southern mountain views and a dock with canoe for your use. This is a very remote mountain pond that is quiet and serene. Boating is mostly canoes and kayaks; there are only a couple of small motor boats and personal watercraft are not allowed by the town. The entire area has no electricity which adds to the charm. A true off the grid experience, complete with an outhouse!
Concord Pond: This is a tranquil pond of 135 acres that is fed by brooks from the surrounding mountains. It is located about a 1/2-hour drive from Bethel, Maine and Sunday River. Relax in this remote wilderness and enjoy the fishing, watch the moose and listen to the call of the loons. There is a shallow sandy beach that gradually increases in depth making it ideal for young children. There is a raft and a canoe. Located across the pond is an island with beautiful ledge outcroppings that are excellent for swimming and diving. This is a perfect place for a picnic; pick some wild blueberries or just bask in the sun. The kids love to gather there. Cooling breezes make this pond perfect for small sailboats or for wind surfing. Surrounding towering pines or the large screened porch at the waters edge is a great place to retreat from the hot summer sun. In the evening, sit around the wonderful campfire that is right on the shore and listen to the loons or watch mother duck and her babies. If you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of a moose. The bald eagles have made the pond their home and you'll have a front row seat to Mother Nature.
The area: The views to the south are superb and include Bald Mountain and Spruce Mountain. The sun sets down the pond and beautiful sunsets are always a treat. If a thundershower decides to make its way through, there is often a perfect rainbow to behold. My favorite time is canoeing in the evening, when the pond is still and the campfires burn, watching the shooting stars. Some nights you even may wake to a slapping of the water and see a moose just out front, enjoying a meal of lily pads.
There are some great hikes in the immediate area and even a very local mine where you can try your luck at rock hounding. The area is rich in quartz, garnet, tourmaline and aquamarine. There are books at the cottage that will tempt you with the treasures of jewels that lie in the surrounding hills. The Lake Cottage is a unique experience for those in search of tranquility.
The Cottage: The living area is native pine paneled and has large sliding windows with screens that overlook the lake and mountains. Looking out it's hard to tell if there is anything at all between you and the waters-edge. The front screened porch is where you are sure to spend most of your indoor hours.
The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans and utensils and is suitable for preparing complete meals. For dining you have your choice of the dinette table, the porch table or the picnic tables outside.
The master bedroom is just off the living area and has an antique dresser and queen size bed. There is also a small room with a dresser and bunk beds at the back of the cottage. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with dresser and three twin beds.
The Lake Cottage is available for the summer and fall by the week or weekend. You will need to bring linen for the beds and towels etc. for the bath.

Electronic Free Getaway
We wanted an electronic free vacation before the start of the school year and this cabin was perfect. We swam and paddled and hiked until the sun went down. The cabin was perfect for our family of five and provided all the necessities.

First vacation in 12 years
Best ever owners, property and relaxation experience. We are so thankful to Scott and Carol for allowing us to spend time there. Fishing was best ever, loon and eagle provided entertainment and lip biting drama when we thought the loom baby had been eaten. Total relief when we discovered the loons hide the baby and called in help from three other adult loons. Thank you so much to Scott and Carol.

Magical place
The cottage is lovely and located on such a charming lake. We really enjoyed canoeing and swimming in this peaceful setting. The screened in porch was such a lovely place to sit and eat dinner listening to the loons. We even had a beaver along the shore gnawing on sticks for a few evenings.

Perfect weekend getaway!
This off the grid cabin was exactly what we needed to escape for the long weekend! Although off the grid, this cabin was very clean and had everything that we needed. We enjoyed so much about our stay but some of the highlights included the peaceful and still lake in the mornings, the sunsets and nightly campfires. Taking the canoe around the lake was also pretty special. We absolutely can not wait until next summer to get back to Concord Pond. I am so thankful that places like this still exist and that people are willing to share them!
