Welcome to "Bear Necessities", our mountain lake home, a true piece of heaven on earth, tucked away in the Great Smoky Mountains on the largest private lake in North Carolina, with over 15 miles of shore.

Since 1903, the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Firestones, Henry Ford, R. J. Reynolds, President James Buchanan and Thomas Edison were regular guests and referred to this glorious private lake escape as "Little Switzerland."

No expense was spared on this Extraordinary, Luxurious, Spacious, Clean, totally Remodeled and Fully Equipped property, where you and your family can make lasting memories.

The large master bedroom has a very relaxing king sized bed, as well as a beautiful fire place. All bedrooms have super comfortable beds and extra bedding if needed.

- The master bedroom also has a nice crib for a baby or toddler. If you let us know in advance, we may provide a 2nd crib.

- Property sleeps 8 comfortably, but we can also provide a few extra Air Mattresses upon request.

- Unlimited hot water for your shower or bath.

- Plenty of bath / beach towels for the lake.

- Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Amazon Music Unlimited, etc

- 4 indoor Fireplaces. One in the master bedroom, one in the living room, one in the TV room and one on the outside patio.

- Get cozy by one of these or snuggle up by the lakeside Fire Pit, while enjoying breathtaking views overlooking the lake and the mountains. Fire wood provided.

- Marshmallow roasting sticks available, in case you want to make smore’s.

- The home offers a laptop-friendly workspace, WIFI, printer, etc.

- Family Games such as Ping Pong table, Cornhole, giant Connect 4, Chess, Yahtzee, Jenga, Monopoly, CandyLand, SkipBo, Dominos, Checkers, Poker Set, Backgammon, Cards Games, etc…

- Adult / Kids Kayaks, Stand Up Paddle Boards, Canoe, Lake Toys etc complimentary.

- Plenty of parking space available.

This is a spectacular property with stunning views. We have many lovely places to sit and take in the beauty of this pristine place:

- Front porch rocking chairs,
- Comfortable and ample sitting on the outside patio,
- Lounges on top of boathouse deck,
- Adirondack chairs / lounges next to the water,
-Hammock overlooking the lake… etc

Walk a few steps down to the boathouse where you can enjoy sun bathing, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, and kayaking.

There is a launch area for the kayaks and canoe, which makes getting in and out of the lake easy - especially for kids.

From our brand new private dock, you can go Swimming, Fishing, Boating, Water-Skiing, Tubing, or just cruise the lake taking in the spectacular sights.

Several adult / kids Life Jackets are provided. If you find you need more, or you’d like to rent a boat, you can rent from Lake Toxaway Marine. (All boat rentals must go through lake Toxaway Marine).

You are more than welcome to tie your boat on our dock.

If you’d like an early Check-in or late Check out, please let us know in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

You will love the peace and serenity you will find here. Binoculars and a bird book for birds of North Carolina can be found in the house.


The lake house is just minutes from main Highway (US 64) making going shopping or sightseeing fast and easy, unlike some properties in Toxaway that can take up to 30 min to just get on the main road.


Asheville NC Airport (AVL) is about 45 min away. Greenville SC Airport (GSP) is 1 hour and 40 min away. Atlanta or Charlotte International Airports, are about 2 and a half hours away.


Our location is a short drive to:

- Blue Ridge Parkway,
- Pisgah National Forest,
- Biltmore Estates,
- Chimney Rock State Park,
- Gorges Falls State Park
- White Water Falls & lot of other spectacular waterfalls, excellent trails and world class hiking, white water rafting & the finest golf courses nearby.

Our goal is to help make your stay an experience of a lifetime! We manage our own property, so if there is ever an issue you can contact us 24/7.


We have a local team near the house to help take care of anything you may need.

P.S. For the safety of our guests, we clean and disinfect the house with restaurant / hospital grade sanitizer and CDC approved product.

World class hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls all around us. We're more than happy to recommend many hikes, waterfalls, restaurants and other fun things in the area.
