Traditional stone palapa retreat with ocean and desert views
"Casa Piedras", the house of Stone, is remotely located within the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The house is situated in the pristine bay of Las Barracas, backing to the Sierra De Lagunas mountains.
This little “off the grid” casa brings inside living outside with the fully covered veranda porch. There you can have your coffee and watch the sunrise with all the morning bird activity. You can view the vibrant animal life of the Sea of Cortez with seasonal whales traveling through, jumping manta rays, and ospreys perched scanning for their next meal. At night, feel as though you are among the stars in an area with virtually zero light pollution. Directly across the roadway is Las Barracas beach where you can go for a kayak paddle, look for the signs of nesting sea turtles or just lay in the warm sand and read a book.
The quaint town Cabo Pulmo is a 1.5-mile drive south. There you will find several restaurants, scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing operators, and whale watching tours. Another 3 miles south is Playa Los Arbilitos, a fantastic protected beach with amazing snorkeling, gentle waves, and smooth sand that makes this beach great for children. Twenty miles farther south, the famous surfing spots begin such as Nines Palms and Shipwrecks. In the opposite direction, is the small town of La Riberia, where you can get limited groceries or have an over-the-top cocktail at the Four Seasons. Twenty minutes further north is the Larger town of Los Barriles. It is known for its outstanding kiteboarding and windsurfing. This town is busy with a high Expat population and a multitude of shops. Los Barriles also houses many sports fishing charters companies.

Fantastic stay with Scott. The bungalow had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is exactly what we wanted, very secluded, private, access to many beaches. We’d love to come back again!
The place is totally charming! We enjoyed the fantastic views of the ocean and the lovely breeze through the patio. The description doesn’t say anything much about the shower, but it is decorated with beautiful touches and has a fantastic showerhead. The kitchen was pretty well stocked, but we couldn’t figure out how to make the oven work.
This house was sublime. Bigger than expected and the pictures just cannot capture how beautiful the property is. So many amazing plants, flowers, birds, and the view is spectacular. The beach, so near by and we had it to ourselves often. Cabo Pulmo was exquisite. We enjoyed every moment. Great food in the near by towns. Couldn't recommend this casa more. Thank you for sharing your oasis with us Scott.
Amazing place! Comfy king bed, nice bedding, kitchen with everything you need! Outside space is so lovely! Quick 10 min drive to town and 2 minute walk to big beach. Head south past Cabo Pulmo to Arbolitos snorkel beach. tacos and beer best restaurant on the water in town, end of the road. Welcoming community in Pulmo!
We had an incredible stay. Slept under the stars listening to waves every night - where else can you find this!!! Mosquitos enjoyed my tender skin even with bug spray but my husband was not bothered by them. Everything you will need for an Off-grid stay is provided. Ocean views and walk to beach is a breeze - you will pretty much have your own private beach. Local people are so nice and helpful! Scott provided us amazing local referral for our Snorkel, Scuba and Fishing adventures. If you enjoy birds, Scott has several perches on property for viewing Cardinals, Orioles, Morning Doves, and other beautiful species. Can't wait to come back!
Great location, private and quiet, with excellent indoor/outdoor seating areas. Nicely landscaped with a variety of flora and fauna to watch while relaxing on the patio.
Short walk to the beach and a short drive into town for a snorkelling trip or to eat at the local restaurants.
Great stone house with a beautiful view to the water, lovely trees and nice landscaping. The home feels very private and has all you would need for a trip to the East Cape. We loved walking on the beach, relaxing under the palapa and looking at the Baja book collection!!
We truly enjoyed our stay here. Peace and quiet and all the comforts of home. We enjoyed all of the care that was taken to set up all of the details in this beautiful home. We will definitely be back!
The house is amazing, the yard and outside space is terrific with great views of the water. It’s an easy 2 minute walk to an almost empty beach. The house has everything you need for a great relaxing vacation. Stay up late and see the stars; the best we’ve ever seen! .
We stayed for a week. Drove into Cabo Pulmo several times. Enjoyed the sunrises and wildlife. Relaxing. I would do it again.

About the host

My wife and I live at beautiful Lake Tahoe, where I am a builder and she is a retired firefighter. We love to travel the world but also love spending time at both our home locations. At some point in our lives we will be living in Mexico for more of the year but until then have opened the house up to others to use. We hope you find it as comfortable as we do and make it your home base to discover Southern Baja!
Why they chose this property
I starting traveling around Baja before I was even in high school and after investigating about every nook and cranny, leaving barely one grain of sand unturned, I knew that the area around Cabo Pulmo was my dream location. I love the remoteness, the pristine waters, and the desolate beaches. The many locals have become my extended family. I enjoy every minute that I am able to escape to this quieter world and hope that you too will enjoy it as I do.
