About this property

Wintergreen on Boom Lake

Enjoy our small ranch house with a walk out basement to bring you to the shoreline of Boom Lake, the heart of the Rhinelander Chain of Lakes (Boom, Bass, Thunder, Lake Creek, and Wisconsin River Flowage). It is considered one of the best fishing destinations in Northern Wisconsin. The surface water area is over 1700 acres with 35 miles of shoreline for boating, skiing, swimming, jet skiing, fishing, and snowmobiling!

Small house (1800 sq ft) but very cozy! Patio doors that offer beautiful views of the lake inside the house and also on the walk out deck. We have a great firepit area to sit back and relax after a fun day on the lake. There is a dock to fish off of, or pull the boat up to.


Items to note since they have been beaten to death to the point it is just annoying. Yes the water has high iron concentration as all homes in the area do. The water passes the county inspection, but it does have a smell to it. If that is an issue you will need to bring some bottled water, or please don't book.

The seating in the kitchen has 2 high top tables. We aren't putting in a standard kitchen table. There are 6 total chairs. 4 for one table, and 2 for other. We do understand that this may not be your choice of seating, but this is what we like with the lay out of the kitchen.

This property is wonderful I would definitely stay here again. We wanted a nice relaxing trip and this property definitely delivered. We had wildlife coming right up to the front window and the lake with a dock that is great to fish off in the back. Host was very responsive to any questions we had.

Fantastic Lake Weekend!

Wintergreen on Boom Lake had everything possible to enjoy a family lake vacation rain or shine! We were up for a mountain bike race and our only regret is that we didn’t get to hang out at the house longer. Next year we’ll plan accordingly to stay longer!

Relaxing at Boom Lake

We planned on traveling to northern Wisconsin and have stayed at Boom lake a couple years ago. I found this listing and was very impressed and the size of the home was perfect! We brought our own fishing boat and had great luck fishing and hanging out on their beautiful dock. I would definitely stay here again, the home is tastefully decorated and is very comfortable for a couple or a family. (The boat launch is very close too!)

This place was absolute perfection! The lake is beautiful. The deer would come up and lay in the yard while we were out there. The game room is amazing, and the patio is even better! The table and chairs were also the perfect height ;). Mike is an awesome host! We will definitely recommend and stay again!

Another Great Stay and We Will Be Back

Perfect location. 7 minute drive to Downtown Rhinelander. Within 25 minutes to Eagle River and Minocqua. Fishing from the Pier was good. Comfortable furnishings. This was the third time we have stayed here and we will gladly be back next year. Owner is pleasant and friendly to deal with.

Peaceful and fun!

The hosts were kind and warm. Very helpful and detailed oriented. The house was a rustic nice size woodsy place yet close enough to town for food and entertainment. The house was on a beautiful lake and the wild life was so beautiful. Quiet and roomy. Even the driveway had room for several cars. Perfect! Clean and accommodating! Perfect stay. Perfect host. Perfect time up in the Northwoods! Can't wait to come back!

Quite the disappointment on cleanliness and communication!

When we arrived at Wintergreen on Boom Lake, we were excited to see the setting, but once we walked inside our happiness turned to frustration. We soon discovered that the house had not been cleaned very well if not at all and the air conditioning did not work. The outside temperature was 90 degrees and the inside temp did not go lower than 75 degrees. One bathroom had dried toothpaste in the sink, dried urine on the toilet seat, the bathroom carpets were filthy and the floor was visibly dirty. Two of the beds were made with dirty sheets. There were stains on the sheets and hair on the pillowcases. It was evident that the kitchen and dining room floors hadn’t been swept by the crumbs that were strewn everywhere. The beautiful view of the lake was obscured by the smudges and fingerprints on the sliding glass windows. The downstairs laundry room had dirty laundry in the washer and the dryer was also full of clothes. We have pictures documenting this as proof. After discovering the condition of the house, I called Kaye, Mike’s wife, and left a message to inform her that we weren’t happy. Since it was late in the day and too late to make other arrangements, my girlfriends and I began cleaning. We stripped down the bedding and washed the sheets and blankets. We cleaned and disinfected the bathrooms, washed windows, cleaned appliances, and vacuumed the floor. Mike called me back and I explained the situation to him. He told me that new cleaning people were hired and he was going to contact them to hear their side of the story. But the bottom line was that the bedding and bathrooms were not left in acceptable condition! Once the cleaning was done, we did enjoy the lake and patio area. When we left the next morning, we stripped the bedding and started a load of towels in the washer. We definitely left the place cleaner than when we arrived. My girlfriends and I felt it was appropriate to be compensated for our time cleaning. We asked Mike if he would be willing to do so and I have not heard from him. I called one more time to give him the chance to rectify this situation and he did not answer so I left a message. Needless to say, since I have not heard from him, that is the reason for this unsatisfactory review. Although the lake was beautiful and the game room had many options, I would not recommend staying at Wintergreen on Boom Lake because of the unsanitary conditions.

I knew that this would be a negative review from the beginning. I did contact twice, and spent over an hour of my time with Gail via phone. Told here the cleaning lady was there for just over 2 hours which I have security footage of, so yes it was cleaned. I asked what she wanted for the hour cleaning. She wanted $100 off the stay. It was a few things that weren't a deal killer, and we just switch cleaning services, so i thought, sure some thing may have got missed. I pay $50 to clean the entire house. She wanted $100 for a couple small items, and the phone conversation went from a mole hill to a mountain. Felt like being fleeced a bit, so instead of an argument after 2 conversations, i went silent, and moved on and just gonna take the bad review. She stated what i would refund would determine the review. I wasn't gonna buy a review. Also the downstairs laundry room is a that should be locked, and not available to the guests. Yes there is dirty laundry there. We are full 80% of the time, and can't clean all the laundry on back to back stays. We catch up when we can. I'll just hope that someone left the door open, and leave it at that.

Excellent location to Rhinelander Restaurants, Bars, Shopping. Short drive to Eagle River and Minocqua. Caught fish from the dock. Utilized the Game Room in the Basement. Peaceful location. Our second time at this location and we will be back again. Excellent communcation with the owner.

Beautiful Home

Absolutely beautiful home with great location. The view of the lake and the amenities at this house are incredible. The water in the home is definitely an issue so book knowing the water situation. Don't wash any light clothes here. The smell is very strong of iron so although it is cleared by the county - it is still offputting - we were fine with dishes and showers but didn't drink it. Half our family didn't mind it and the other half were really bothered by it. The hosts are so nice and accommodating and very communicative. The water is the only thing I could say anything negative about. Everything else was PERFECT!

Michael and Kaye Lani. We are from Rhinelander, WI. We originally bought this place for a little get away so we could bring our dogs with us. Not long after we had an unexpected surprise in having a son named Winter. While we try to get here as often as we can, we decided to rent it out to other guests when we aren't there. We look forward to having this place for a long time for us and others to enjoy.

Why they chose this property

While we might not be in the Minocqua or Eagle River hot spots, we are in a nice peaceful setting, with most of the get away feel that most are looking for. Forget something? We are a mile out of town, so grabbing forgotten items is so easy. A great fire pit area looking over Boom Lake to give you that northwoods feeling on northern WI evening. Come visit for any reason, but please take the evening off while your here!

What makes this property unique

We are on the water! In the summer, it is easy to sit out on the dock, or use the stairs to walk in the water. In the winter, the sleds can hit the trail from the lake. Great fishing lake for your ice fishing adventures. Just check the ice before you head out!
