We were there for a week with a family group of 12 and really enjoyed the lake and house! It was 90 degrees the whole week and the air conditioning kept up beautifully. Enjoyed the restaurants around the lake and the kids loved the ice cream shop down the street.
Bill was amazing with our accommodations. We stayed with 2 other families with kids and every need was met! The kids loved swimming and fishing in the lake. We hope to come back every year!
The home was very clean, had plenty of space for our group of 10, and was conveniently located right on Cedar Lake. The dock was perfect for watching sunsets and easy to dock our boat. Close to the public beach and shopping/dining in nearby Crown Point. Bill was a great host and we would definitely stay here again.

Bill and his property were amazing. They came in clutch with a flexible and accommodating last minute booking after a different reservation cancelled a few days before our trip. The place fit our group of 11 perfectly, with plenty of indoor and outdoor space to relax and enjoy.

Hello Mike,
Thanks for the 5 star response.
I'm glad you had a good time and I enjoyed speaking with you about the history of Cedar Lake.
I wish you would have let me know you could not find a hair dryer. We keep one in the drawer of the master bathroom vanity cabinet.
We look forward to having you stay with us again!
To clarify for future guests, we do provide a start up supply of dish soap, laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towel and trash bags. You may need to purchase more supplies depending on the size of your group and the length of your stay. We also provide liquid had soap at every bathroom and kitchen sink. We do not provide personal soaps or shampoo for showering.
We always strive to make our home comfortable for everyone.

safe, clean, private place for extended family to enjoy during Covid19.
Midweek was very peaceful on the lake. Boat traffic picked up Saturday but still beautiful.
We were able to stay in house and on boat all week, even got take out dinner from the boat.
Fun, relaxing, everything we were looking for.

Thanks for the nice review Elaine. If you have to be on lock down, this is certainly a beautiful place to be. We strive to make our guests comfortable. Thanks for letting us know we are meeting expectations!
Our group of 8 came to this wonderful Log Home for a week in order to see our grandson's nearby baseball tournament. That was a lot of fun, but what appealed even more was the relaxing time we had inside cooking and playing board games, or the many hours fishing and swimming from the dock. And the sunsets were amazing! The owners were great to work with, too. Regardless of baseball, we plan to return for another relaxing time!
My husband and I spent the weekend in this amazing home. We had some family visit on Sunday, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The home is in a beautiful setting on the lake, and was well-equipped with everything we needed. Our host Bill was attentive and covered everything before we arrived. We highly recommend this rental and would definitely return.

We'd be happy to have you back!
Everything in the listing is true. What else can I say? Even though there is plenty to do in the area, we only left the property for food and drinks. The house was spacious and clean and the lakefront was perfect. Would definitely come back.

We're so happy that you and your family had a nice time Ron. We hope to have you back again at Log Home On The Lake!
The property is as listed. We had a group of 12 guys are we were comfortably accommodated in the space. There is ample outdoor patio space to enjoy throughout the day into the evening, the large backyard made it easy to play any yard game, and the personal dock made it super easy to manage our boat all weekend. Overall the house made it easy for our group on a long lake weekend To enjoy the lake and have fun!! Would definitely recommend!!

Great set up for multi family units to spread out but upgraded bed/bedding needed
Great set up with separate sleeping areas for us and our adult kids with young children. View was great, even during the winter season. At the current pricing, I would suggest an upgrade to all the mattresses and bedding. We struggled to keep warm since all the beds had just a sheet and an older light weight comforter. We would stay again if beds/bedding were updated.
The House is amazing, it had everything to make our stay enjoyable. Our host Bill was excellent and was always available for any question I had before and during our stay. Check in was easy and Bill made a point to make sure everything was ok and to point out some things about the house with a personal call to me after my check in. I liked that. The house itself is beautiful inside and out. Extra clean and quit at night. plenty of room for everyone. The kids loved the yard and yes that climb back up the stairs is a bit of a workout, but we all did ok. We fished every day on the pier also enjoyed golf nearby and rented a boat for the day everyone enjoyed that. the week was relaxing and fun we all had a great time.
The great room allowed for togetherness for games, eating, and a wonderful view of the lake, while all the various spaces enabled us to get away for more private conversations, quiet times, and different activities. We enjoyed the yard for ball games, frisbee, bubbles, and tie-dye, and every day spent several hours down on or in the water, enjoying kayaks, fishing, and swimming. The large deck was great for eating, relaxing, and enjoying the cool breeze off the lake. Be prepared for a fitness workout getting down the stairs and back up. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and the three separate bathrooms. The cleaning requirements were very specific and extensive, but definitely worth it for us to be able to enjoy this property.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay!!
The house was the most well-stocked vacation rental we've had to date, so that was great! Lots of room for everyone. The lake probably needs a horsepower limit, as it's pretty murky. Also, there is only one boat rental company on Cedar Lake now, and the offerings are in shockingly poor condition for incredibly high prices. That said, we didn't have a boat rental for that beautiful dock, and that put a damper on our week. Not the problem of the home owner, but renters should know. Lots of fun restaurants and ice cream shops around, and the Bugaboo kayak rental people were really nice. Overall, a great house for a group. The owners were incredibly helpful and responsive!

A beautiful modern home
We had a pretty rambunctious group of people, seven little kids under five, and they were fantastically entertained on the well manicured lawn and the water that was shallow enough for most of them to touch bottom.
I was in charge of all the food preparation and the up to date kitchen was great. If I had any complaints is what that I didn't realize the water was sulphured well water. We had to run out and buy bottles of water for cooking, tooth brushing and drinking. It could be we're just spoiled city people, but it took a lot of us by surprise.
Otherwise, great view, great accommodations, I'd love to return.
Response from VrboOwner on 20 May 2020
We do have well water. It is softened, however, we had a few large groups in a row stay at the home and the water softner could not keep up. It is rare to have that happen and the water is again in perfect condition.
We spent a long weekend at the Lakehouse. There were 10 of us for a family reunion; still, the house felt comfortable and spacious. The extra living area upstairs was a bonus, as everyone had their space. We had a wonderful time and wished we had booked it for a more extended period. The view of the lake at the bottom of the beautiful, sloped lawn from the house was out of this world. Although the lake is relatively shallow, we had fun swimming from the dock. The pictures of the house are very accurate. The owner, Bill, contacts you after you book the house. He is very approachable and accommodating. We cooked all our meals as none of the restaurants in the town had a better view than us. There is a well-stocked kitchen with all the pots, pans, and utensils. The barbecue was very handy, and having a family meal on the large deck was wonderful. The beds are very comfortable, and the three full bathrooms are handy. We took many card and board games along, but Bill already had a large stock in the house. We also want to recommend the local museum, which is just 5 minutes away by car, and was a fascinating look at the region from the ice age to the present! There is also a convenient canoe and kayak rental nearby.
We highly recommend this Lakehouse and would definitely visit again.

Property was as nice as advertised. We used it as a base for an October wedding at the Lighthouse Restaurant, which is located very close to this property. The place was large enough for everyone, including the bridal party, to get ready. Beautiful location even in the fall. Owner was responsive and great to work with.
We rented this beautiful home for the weekend while we attended a wedding at The Light House. It was 1 mile away from the venue. It was a beautiful log home with lots of room for the whole family to relax enjoy the beautiful lake and home.

Hosted by Bill Port
Hello, my name is Bill Port. I am a real estate Broker with Realty Executives Premier. Reach out with any questions you may have. I previously owned a construction business and have had the opportunity to renovate the homes of some of Chicagoland's most prestigious residents. While I now work as a full time real estate broker, I still enjoy building and working with my hands. This home was a true joy to transform into what it is today. This is my family's home and we will gladly let you use it as yours also.
Why they chose this property
When my family purchased this home it was in need of great repair. The home was basically a series of multiple additions; the oldest of which originated in the 1800's. Today, there is very little that visibly remains of the original structures. We have renovated this home inside and out in Adirondack Style, with log siding to complete it's rustic feel. The look is rustic, but the feeling is pure comfort. While in the home you will notice the craftsmanship in nearly every room, as well as in the exterior decor. We try to constantly add to the artistic charm of the home. Our most recent addition is a hand crafted Totem Pole carving that guards the front door. If you are looking for a peaceful home to relax with your friends and family, you should consider staying here. We enjoy having guests enjoy the beauty of the lake. If you would like help determining if this is the right place for your get-away. -Bill
