About this property

Sounds Groovy OBX: Waterfront Home with Dock

Discover the perfect Outer Banks getaway! Our waterfront home offers an array of activities including fishing, crabbing, birdwatching, and water sports from the dock, all with stunning sunsets. We provide top-tier amenities to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. Enjoy a fully equipped, gourmet kitchen, luxurious bedding, powerful showers, and all the beach and fishing gear you need. Relax on our multiple decks and soak in the beautiful surroundings. As our guest, your experience is our priority!

We lovingly call our house Sounds Groovy OBX! For over 30 years, this was the home to the coolest, most loving grandparents ever! They were wonderful free spirits! Sounds Groovy is a tribute to them and an acknowledgement of all the beauty and kindness they shared while they were with us. They enjoyed fishing, the beach, and love and laughter. We are confident you'll experience that and much more when you visit Sounds Groovy!

Our home was beautifully renovated in 2018. Which included a brand new kitchen, new floors throughout, new showers, and new deck. Our philosophy is that if there's something we would need when staying there, our guests will need it too. You will find a kitchen completely stocked for cooking, baking, and grilling (with appliances, such as a split double oven convection range, a microwave, a crockpot, griddle, hand mixer, popcorn maker, rice maker, Keurig, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, etc.). Plus, access a variety of games, a sewing kit, a first aid kit, iron and ironing board, luggage racks, a chair in each bedroom, and many other amenities. After a long day enjoying all that the Outer Banks offers, you can sit back relax and watch shows on the 75" Smart TV. The home offers WiFi and the television is equipped with an Amazon Fire TV Stick, there is no cable television.

The house sits on the main canal off the Albemarle Sound with a dock for fishing or boat tie-up. If you are a fishing fan (like us!), check out the fish table/cleaning station! Boat dock has electricity, water, and lighting. We provide fishing rods and a simple tackle box. The house also offers an enclosed outdoor shower, which in our opinion is the best part of any beach house. We also have an outdoor entertainment area underneath the house, excellent for Crab Feasts and other group activities. One of the main highlights is the view! Take in the scenery either from the decks and from many of the expansive windows inside.

During your stay you will have complete and uninterrupted access to all areas of entire home (excluding owner's closet) including Access to the storage room (key to the right of the front door) with beach supplies, fishing gear and a second refrigerator and freezer.

WASHER AND DRYER: Available and free for your use.

OUTDOOR SHOWER: The home has a shielded/semi-private outdoor shower with excellent water pressure.

SEWING KIT: Have a mishap? Fix it in a snap!

IRON & IRONING BOARD: Provided.

FISHING RODS: Are available in lower storage, you'll need a NC fishing license.

FISH CLEANING STATION w/ RUNNING WATER: Available on dock.

NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE: Our home is equipped with a NEST smoke and carbon monoxide detector for your safety. It's super sensitive, so it will alert us if it detects smoke in the home.

There is a community pool for $3 fee per person per day, charged by the Homeowner's Association.

There is also a community boat ramp, key required. The key fee is $30.00 per week with a $10 refundable key deposit, charged by the Homeowner's Association.

Your enjoyment in our home is our PRIMARY concern. We have family in the community, so if you have any issues during your stay, we will have somebody there to assist you.

About the host

Hosted by John McKissick

Host profile image
Our home originally belonged to Mark's parents, Becky and Dave, who lived in the Outer Banks for over 30 years. Prior to living there full-time , the family frequently visited and, truly loved, all that the Outer Banks has to offer. Mark’s brother and his wife are Nags Head residents today.

We love sharing our home with our guests. Knowing our home is hosting others, as they enjoy a vacation on the Outer Banks, is almost as good as being there! We enjoy helping guests experience the area as a local might.

Our family including, Maria, Gina and Luke, look forward to continuing the family tradition of calling the Outer Banks our second home!

Why they chose this property

The home was built in 1984. It was purchased from the builder by Becky and Dave Masters. Upon their deaths in 2017, Becky and Dave's sons, David and Mark inherited the home. Michele, Mark's wife, purchased David's half in 2018. The home is now owned by Mark and Michele Masters. In time, Mark and Michele's three children, Maria, Gina and Luke will take ownership of the home. We hope to keep this home in our family and our hearts for many years to come!

What makes this property unique

The home's location on the main canal off the Albemarle Sound has always made it a wonderful place to visit. Whether you like to fish, crab off the dock or just relax, the home is a peaceful respite. The home was fully renovated in 2018 and outfitted with every amenity imaginable.
