Shugafoot Oceanfront

Shugafoot or Shugyfoot, nickname grandma gave us.

Upon your arrival at Shugafoot you will notice an updated kitchen and living area with spectacular oceanfront views. The back porch provides shelter from rain with an adjacent sundeck and bench. The back oceanview porch/deck spans the entire length of the cottage. Gorgeous sunrises, peaceful view. Dolphins commonly swim by. Great location with many restaurants nearby or enjoy a nice dinner at Shugafoot with a stocked kitchen. A gas grill is located in the driveway. All bedrooms have oceanviews. Master has a King with a new mattress and box spring with a single stack washer and dryer in the closet, the 2nd bedroom is a Queen with a new mattress and 3rd bedroom has twin beds. The storage room below has a small collection of beach toys, beach chairs and umbrella.

Parking for 2-3 cars in driveway. Dogs are welcome, dog gates have been added to allow your pets to enjoy the ocean-breeze on the shaded porch.

Great winter stay at the beach

The house was just the right size for our family (and could have fit a few more) the location was excellent, and we loved watching dolphins from the front porch. Great sunsets and beautiful stargazing. The host was also very attentive (thank you, Mark!). We would definitely come again.

Great Location

I can't say enough about this place, we have stayed here a couple time and hope to stay again in the future. Great dog friendly house and perfect location for a weekend away, not far from the bridge and right on the beach. The house was clean and the kitchen pretty well stocked with everything we needed.

Even better than we expected

The host was friendly, great communication and help. The property is ON the beach, just a dune and there it is. The views from nearly all the rooms in the house are mesmerizing. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, and the new beds are spacious and comfortable. Excellent wi-fi and cable. Plenty of parking. Our Havanese, Dickens, was also comfortable, and loved the beach. Recommend the Black Pelican and Hurricane Mo's. Touring the Wright Memorial, including climbing Kill Devil Hill, is a must. We had a great time, and found it to be a good value.

Love the beach, property nice.

Other the Tropical Storm/Hurricane Debby causing a trip to be wet, the trip went well. This is our fifth time to the Outer Banks and we love this part of America. The house was very nice, just needs a little updating and refining.

Relaxed and happy

That’s how we felt, relaxed and happy staying at Shugafoot. The views are beautiful and the beach is right over the dune. Coming back from the beach we appreciated the outdoor shower to rinse off. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes etc.. The King bed was comfortable as well as the queen. We loved the huge deck to have coffee in the morning and later wine. Overall the place was great!

Kitty Hawk Vacay!

We had a wonderful stay at Shugafoot. Right on the beach is a huge priority for us, and this cottage does not disappoint. Our doggies loved the fenced in deck.

Wonderful Beach House!!

The location is excellent, close to everything, and directly on the beach. A lot of the house has been remodel and the older parts are well kept. The kitchen is beautiful and has everything you need. The ocean front deck was by far my favorite part of this house. It is the whole length of the house and we loved that half of it was covered. We would definitely stay here again!!

Amazing location

Shugafoot is literally right on the beach. It is awesome. There is a front porch that runs the width of the house and you could sit outside for hours watching the surf. Everything was very comfortable and cozy. We were there in February so of course we didn’t swim, but we did walk in the beach a lot and we certainly enjoyed that front porch. We had a wonderful stay!

Rainy Beach Trip

Although it rained almost our entire trip, the location on the beach cannot be beat. Our last two days we had views of dolphins and we even had a little time to relax on the deck. The house was clean but, as maybe expected in a pet friendly location, the couches were a little rough and ready. Plus that master bathroom is a little tiny (as food poisoning was involved. Yikes!) I appreciated Mark's communication and overall the location makes it!

Right on the beach!

The surf and the breeze. It was great. Spent most of our time on the deck watching the waves come in. We never even took our beach chairs over the dune. Didn’t need to we were so close on the deck. Nice kitchen. Nice quiet neighborhood.

Epic location, cozy space

Location could not be more perfect - ocean at the deck is always the goal and it was perfect here. The covered deck is huge, tall chairs made dolphin watching easy and comfortable. Gate was fabulous for keeping the dogs with us while chilling on the deck. Kitchen is gorgeous and the huge island was perfect for making Christmas cookies. Rooms were cute and cozy, a little tight for 5 adults but plenty of common space. Master bathroom is snug, but was not an issue for us. Love love loved this trip!

Location Location Location

Our two sons daughter in law and 2 year old grandson and three dogs stayed a week and could not be more happy. The views are the BEST, place is beautiful. Full kitchen, plenty of rooms and bathrooms the deck is plenty big and can be locked with gate to keep baby and dogs from escaping. Dolphins and whales and sunsets did not disappoint. Close to nightlife and restaurants and yet far enough you wouldn't know they were there. Fast responses for small questions from Mark. Highly recommend and hope to stay again.

Great Location

Steps from the beach. You will see dolphins in the morning, ghost crabs at night. The beach is uncrowded, and waves are perfect for wave boarding. Reco: Holly Ridge golf practice facility, Shipwrecks lunch and dinner (crab cake sandwich and wings), Stack em High breakfast, and Lost Treasure Mini Golf. FYI: garbage is Tues, Thurs, and Sat mornings at 3am.

Great location

The property was perfect, but unfortunately the hurricanes were coming so we had to leave early due to the property being so close to the water. For someone not used to being by the ocean, it was too scary for us to stay. Unfortunately we were unable to get money back from the rental or the trip insurance. That still wouldn't prevent us from returning again though!

Our little piece of Heaven on earth.

Upon arrival, we could see why everyone mentioned hiking the dune to the beach. It definitely became easier by weeks end. The house was the perfect size for us. The renovations are beautiful. The full deck facing the ocean is it's own little paradise. The weather cooperated, and we didn't have any rain. Fishing by weeks end was definitely better. All in all we had a marvelous time. Thank you Mark for everything. It was awesome.

Girls Getaway

Communication with Mark was wonderful, he was very responsive! Check-in was easy. The house is directly on the beach and is a dream location! Even though we didn't have the best weather we had the best time! The beds were comfortable, and sleeping with the windows open to hear the ocean was amazing. The second bathroom is tight but fully functional with no issues. We had to do a little cleaning in the kitchen when we got there. Other than that everything was fine. in addition to sheets and bath towels you might want to bring bath mats and kitchen towels. We had an amazing time and hope to go back.

All about the location and views!

Shugafoot was the perfect spring break getaway for our family, which included me and my husband, our two girls, and grandma. It is a relatively small home but the space was used very wisely, well-decorated, and well-appointed with what we needed in the kitchen. If I have to comment on one thing first- that view. There really are just no words for having a completely unobstructed view of the water, sunrises, sunsets, birds, sky, all of it. The very new deck runs the entire width of the house with some portions covered, some open, and ample seating. We really loved the dog gate which was extremely convenient. We really liked the clearly remodeled kitchen and decor. Some areas of the house haven’t been redone as much- but very much felt like a traditional OBX beach cottage and we loved it. If I got to have one wish list for that home, I would have loved to have a hot tub on the porch to watch the ocean- but- since you are steps from the water, we spent every waking moment walking on the beach. For Spring Break week- this was the most perfect house for us and I would book again in a heartbeat.

Nice off-season getaway

It was a nice little house, and the view was fabulous. Access to the beach was difficult because of the way the house is situated on top of the dune. The only way to get to the beach was to climb up and over the dune; there was no walkway. The driveway was off a main road, which I imagine would be a nightmare to get in and out of during the busy season, but it was fine in March. The driveway was not lit, and the sand had drifted in so we had to climb over a mini-dune just to get to the stairs to access the house. Only the code was provided in email regarding check-in. We arrived after dark; had to call the owner because the key box was located at the bottom of the stairs, where we didn't think to look because the entrance was at the top, and it was dark! The owner did call right back, but was unresponsive to an email sent regarding the open utility room, where the laundry was located. Location was close to shops and restaurants by car, although even in the off season, it seemed unsafe for biking.
