About this property
CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE
Welcome to a spectacular, newly renovated condo in the highly sought-after Greenhouse East condo community. Just blocks from downtown Palm Springs, yet amazingly private and quiet, this is the ultimate Palm Springs condo, with a huge Olympic lap-pool, tennis court, manicured public grounds, fantastic mountain views and its own private, walled courtyard/patio with an in-ground spa/hot-tub. This three-bedroom, two-bath condo is newly remodeled and fully outfitted with comfortable furniture, high-end beds with excellent mattresses (God, I hate bad mattresses), a brand-new kitchen that is an entertainer's dream, a semi-detached casita that can be used as an office or third bedroom, high-speed WiFi, gas grill, microwave, air fryer, gourmet coffee marker, central air/heat, 55-inch flat-screen TV and stereo sound-bar, and all the little things you need, from pots and pans to towels and sheets.
The condo is used by the owner himself each year, so it has all those special touches you don't see in rental units, from a Nelson clock and beautiful prints (from his collection of 20th Century modern art).
BEDROOMS/BATHS: The condo has two formal bedrooms and baths, both with walk-in showers, and a semi-detached casita with a twin daybed that can be used as a third bedroom or just an extra room.
The Master Bedroom has a gorgeous king-sized bed (with a high-end memory-foam mattress that sleeps very cool), a matching walnut bed set (dresser and two side-tables) and lounge chair by the sliding glass doors and a desk with chair. It also has its own Master Bath with a huge walk-in shower (big enough for two) featuring a rain-head and hand-held sprayer with excellent water pressure provided by a super-fast and efficient on-demand water-heater.
The custom-built Master Bath also has a floating sink and oak shelves, a skylight and a changing area with hooks and a bench.
The Guest Bedroom has a California-king bed (a little narrower and longer than a standard king) with a Room and Board, medium-firm latex mattress and two Midcentury, wall-mounted side-tables with loads of drawer space, as well as a small desk and a bench suitable for suitcases.
The Guest Bathroom is across the hall and has a floating sink and a big, newly tiled shower, as well as a closet with a brand new washer and dryer and a folding table/storage area.
The Casita has a day-bed with a twin Lisa mattress, a built-in desk with a swivel chair, an iMac and its own mini AC/heater.
Both bedrooms and casita have double, floor-to-ceiling, sliding-glass doors to the spa-area of the patio and super-plush shag rugs that feel great on your feet (the condo itself has newly installed tile). Both bedrooms have large closets with wooden hangers and blackout roller-blinds (as do all the rooms). Thick bath-towels, large pool-towels, good linens and good sleeping-pillows are also provided.
LIVING ROOM: With its large sliding-glass doors, amazing views of the San Jacinto mountains and 10-foot ceilings, the living room is the center of the condo, well furnished with a full-sized sofa, two leather occasional chair, an oversized, leather recliner (with a motorized leg-rest and head-rest); a thick, padded area rug, a Midcentury credenza, a desk with an iMac you can use for work, high-speed internet access, 55-inch flat-screen TV and stereo sound-bar. The living room also has an Apple TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime.
KITCHEN: Perhaps most dramatically, the condo has an open, just-remodeled Kitchen and Dining Room, great for entertaining, with a huge, open island, leather stools, a cool zig-zag black-splash made with black-and-white Italian-marble and layered with two oak shelves; GE Profile stainless-steel fridge/freezer with water and ice dispenser, five-burner gas range, hood and convection oven; Bosch dishwasher; Breville coffee maker with built in burr grinder; microwave oven; stainless steel air fryer; electric tea kettle; Hexclad cookware, and pretty much everything you need to cook, eat and entertain, including baking pans, cooking utensils, serving platters, tea cups, glass-, silver- and dinner-ware, and, of course, wine, champagne and martini glasses.
All water to the house is filtered, which is important in the desert, to avoid sand and grit build-up.
DINING ROOM has a genuine Saarinen oval Tulip-table, with a marble-top and six Italian leather chairs. A gas grill is accessible on a small patio next to the Dining Room.
PATIO/COURTYARD: The condo has a huge patio/walled courtyard with a sofa, two lounge chairs with ottomans, a dining table for six, gorgeous desert pots and landscaping and a private, in-ground, salt-water spa that heats up to 104°F in 20 minutes. It's jets can be on or off, depending on your mood and, sometimes, we keep the water cool for hot nights. I sit out on the patio, which measures about 50- by 20-feet, every night, for the cool breezes or after a dip in the spa. It’s totally private and, yes, you can lounge, sunbathe or use the spa nude with no worries. Lovely little spotlights highlight the landscaping at night, turning on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. The spa and its jets and heater are easy to use; I’ll give you instructions. Salt-water, by the way, is gentle on the skin and doesn't have the heavy, chlorine smell of some spas. A gardener and a spa guy come every week to take care of things.
HOT TUB: The monthly rent includes an allowance of up to $300 for natural gas. THE HOT TUB FEE WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED IF YOU KEEP GAS COSTS UNDER $300 OR PARTIALLY REFUNDED TO COVER COSTS ABOVE $300.
THE COMMUNITY: The condo is in Greenhouse East, one of the most sought-after condo communities in Palm Springs. We are on Alejo, a half-mile from all the cool stuff downtown and adjacent to “The Movie Colony,” where Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra and many other Midcentury stars had homes. Alejo divides the two main downtown streets, Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon, from their north and south sides, with the arts district to the north and the touristy, fun district to the south. We are less than a mile from the Arenas gay-club district and all the fun activities downtown. You couldn’t be more centrally located, yet it is quiet and suburban.
Our pool is widely regarded as the nicest in town, Olympic-sized and suitable for lap swimming, with stunning views of the San Jacinto Mountains and surrounded by gorgeous palm trees and lush landscaping. The pool, which is kept heated year-round, is 30 steps from my front door; the tennis court is even closer. There is a community spa next to the pool that is always warm, and the pool is surrounded by a dozen high-end lounge chairs perfect for sunbathing.
The condo association allows 30-day or longer rentals only, so the the community is not full of "party people" who are just here for a weekend of fun. It's a wonderful mixture of retired people and younger folks -- and people who actually live here. It's a really special place. I hope you'll join us.

About the host
Hosted by Ken Darling

I'm a busy bar-restaurant and small-business owner in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who likes to get away to Palm Springs, but would like to rent my place out when I'm not there. I love art and beautiful rooms and furniture and have done my best to create a really special place in Palm Springs.
Why they chose this property
Greenhouse East is one of the most desirable communities in Palm Springs and I can see why. The grounds are gorgeous, the pool perhaps the best in town and the units are so private and chic, with their floor-to-ceiling glass, high ceilings, open floor plans and, best of all, huge, private courtyards/patios.
What makes this property unique
The mountain views from the kitchen island, the living room couch, the bed in the master bedroom and the pool are the best in town. I love lounging on my outdoor patio, with its privacy walls and in-ground, salt-water spa. I keep the spa cool when it's warm and heat it up in 20-minutes on cool nights. Perfection. This is my second home, not a rental property, and you'll see that when you visit.
