Great location, beautiful house, but lots of problems

The location was perfect for what we needed. Walkable distance to Colorado College and downtown. Has a beautiful front porch, but is on a very busy loud street. It is a beautiful Victorian house and did accommodate our big group but, pictures online were deceiving for the basement area, several beds were uncomfortable, one was broken and needs to be replaced, some of the bathrooms didn’t have hand soap, there were piles of dead and alive flies in the windows, no laundry detergent provided, kitchen pantry basics were not provided, and it was clearly not cleaned well at all. Dirty kitchen table and food crumbs on the ground. The back area behind the back yard and extra parking was trashy. Trash everywhere. There was a window in one of the rooms that was defective but not labeled or communicated, causing the window glass to break after being opened.

Charming and large Victorian getaway

Excellent location, perfect for our stay

House is in a very convenient location: walking distance to many places in Colorado Springs. Plenty of bedrooms, space, and areas to relax. Enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evenings. GREAT host - very clear communication throughout. Also, one in our group left a wallet behind at checkout, and the host found it and messaged immediately. Met us a week later when we came back through town and returned it. Really great experience, would highly recommend.

Great home!

This home was a great fit for our family vacation. We were within walking distance to many restaurants, shops and parks. It was a very clean, charming home with everything we needed. We were within close driving distance to many area attractions (Pike's Peak, Garden of the gods, zoo) and was a comfortable place to return after very busy days. If we return to the area, we would definitely stay here again!

Great spot for DT Colorado Springs / USAFA

Property was very spacious. TV’s worked well. Plenty of room for everyone. Many bars, dining and shopping waking distance. Downstairs carpet needs replacing. Debris around property could be cleared. AC works very well. Some traffic noise from a busy corner. But overall great stay for access to downtown Colorado Springs.

Historic and Unique for Family Reunion

Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect so close to downtown restaurants, shops and the beautiful Monument Valley Park. Very easy to park and walk. The kitchen was well equipped for a large group. We loved the front porch and everyone liked the swings. We did have trouble with the internet not working though.

Couldn't ask for a better location

Couldn't ask for a better location! Only about 3 minutes off HW 25, and walking distance to countless stores, restaurants, and bars. We stayed for two weeks for work, and it was nice only having to commute 15 minutes over to the Garden of the Gods area. Area was fairly quiet and the house is very classic and charming. Thanks for letting us stay!

Conveniently located

We had a nice family visit. Made a fun return trip to all the little mountain towns and had lunch at our favorite The Historic Ute Inn in Woodland Park. My husband is handicapped and our only issue was a loose handrail out front. Everything was nice and cozy! We all relaxed and had a blast.

The house in beautiful, very clean, wonderful antiques and the air conditioning really kept in comfortable. We did not ever get the TV's to work. There are lots' of steps to get in the house and only one bedroom with a double bed that does not require steps to access.

We loved the property. Check in was not easy, it took us half an hour to get the door open. The

The beds were terrible. Pictures of the basement we’re deceiving. the rugs need to be attached to the floors. I fell on one thAt slipped. One third of your life is spent in bed, you could do better. All of the sinks drip. That being said, the house was beautiful. We loved the neighborhood. And the house was big enough to have company over for dinner

Great all Around

Fabulous house in a super location. Close to downtown, short drives to Gatden of the Gods, Manitou Springs/Cliff Dwellings, road to Pike’s Peak, Olympic Museum, parks and pool. We went to rodeo & we’re very close to the pick-up place for free ride. The kitchen was supplied better than any other home we ever rented. Reed was extremely helpful. Provided us with free adult-sized bikes. Our kids brought our grandkids’ bikes and enjoyed great bike rides on a fantastic bike trail right behind the house. The house had so many rooms and nooks & crannies the younger kids reveled in playing Hide and Go Seek. Great front porch too! Downsides? Minor— one of our Hide and Go Seekers said it was too dusty trying to hide under a couch. Also no recycling. Overall, probably the best rental we ever made for our family group!

We had a nice time

Overall the house is specious, and the location is very convenient. We enjoyed our stay. Air conditioner was working perfectly. I would have given 5 star rating, if it wasn't for the following reasons: Most of the dining table chairs were wobbly. We were worried to sit on them. I think it is time to replace the whole set. :-) Kitchen had lot of things. However, they are very hard to find. For an example, blender was in one cupboard, and the lid was in a different drawer, way on the other side of the kitchen. In the basement bathroom, feels like floor of the shower stall is moving. I understand why you have a claw bathtub in the upstairs bathroom. However, it would be nice to have just a shower instead of a claw bathtub/shower. It was hard to get in and unsafe for an older person. Thank you.

About the host

Hosted by Reed Rickert

Host profile image
I have lived here in Colorado Springs since 1980. This is a wonderful town with so much to see and do. We purchased this home for our personal residence and lived there for 12 years. Raising 4 children there we had too many fond memories to turn it into an apartment building or office like so many of the grand old homes of it's era. So now it is in it's full glory bringing more memories to other families getting together for family reunions, weddings, business and vacations. It's size makes it great to share, but there are many private areas also. It has been fully renovated and restored and is waiting for you!

The space is now managed by my son Reed!

Why they chose this property

We love Old Downtown, and still live in this historic neighborhood. There are endless activities close by. You can walk to so much, and driving from there has easy access to all parts of Colorado Springs. Because we lived in this house and there are many extra's that the normal rental does not have. We pride ourselves on attention to detail. Come stay and enjoy a bit of Colorado's history.
