About this property

Historic Inn on a 100 Acre Organic Farm with Lake, Private Pool & Gourmet Food

The Inn at White Gate Farm is located in southeastern Connecticut on 100 acres of growing fields, woods and ponds, with extensive lake frontage. In these pandemic times, we offer the 7- bedroom farmhouse and/or cabin on the lake as a glorious safe retreat. We request a 3-night minimum.

White Gate Farm offers a wide array of tasty, nutritious produce, eggs, chickens, prepared foods and pastries. We would be glad to assemble special orders for you to enjoy as is or cook in your kitchen. Or the farm chef would be glad to make you dinner.

You are invited to explore the grounds, hike the trails in the woods, and visit the farm animals. One of the farmers will be happy to give you a tour, explaining our organic growing methods or highlighting whatever you are interested in. Summer visitors can enjoy the swimming pool with its own pool house and the glorious lake + dock.

The core of the house was built in 1765 and features the original fireplace. Each room has a private bath. There are 2 working gas fireplaces.

Wonderful stay!!

We had such an amazing time here and are planning to return for our next family vacation! The house was clean and spacious and the communication was phenomenal. Everyone we interacted with at the farm was kind, caring, and helpful. There is so much to do at the farm and in the surrounding area. We could not recommend this place more! Best vacation ever!

Great Family Getaway

This was such a central location for my East coast family to meet up. Perfect lodging for folks coming from lots of different areas and spatial needs. We had a lovely time going to the farm stand and made a beautiful meal from the produce we picked up. Thanks for an amazing stay!

Great Family Vacation

We had a wonderful time! Great access to the lake, ocean and pool. The house was the perfect size for our group of 14. We are looking forward to hopefully booking again.

Idyllic setting for family celebration

WG farm was just lovely, and met our needs in every way possible. We wanted a NE farm experience for T-giving and we got it. Everything was beyond expected. Lovely time was had by all!

Perfect!!

Our family of 15 couldn’t have been more pleased!The house accommodated us all with room to congregate in the great room and eat together at the large dining table.The kitchen was large and we were able to prepare meals and bake for the holidays!We were very comfortable in the bedrooms and the property was amazing.We were greeted upon arrival and checked in on to make sure we had everything we needed.The children loved seeing the chickens and rolling down the hill!!One of our best stays! Highly recommend.

Great property, great people.

Beautiful, well kept organic farm with plenty of property to explore. When not in the swimming pool , the lake was a big plus for the kids. Boating, paddle board, swimming. The farmhouse is spacious with room for privacy or gathering. We cooked gourmet meals in the well appointed kitchen. Would recommend White Gate Farm for any gathering.

Stunning property great for group gatherings

We can not be more impressed with all the facilities at White Gate Farm. It starts with the staff, they’re all absolutely wonderful and helpful every step of the way. The space is perfectly clean, and so cozy on a warm or cold day (we got both). The fireplace is AMAZING. Everyone was just so happy with their experience here. We will definitely be back! P.S. Order some food from the farm! It’s out of this world!

We were a group of 13 ( 9 adults and 4 children (2 dogs!)) who just stayed a week in the inn. The house is lovely and it is large and our big group slept very comfortably in the 7 bedrooms. We had a dinner prepared by Tami for 18 one night and it was delicious! Kevin, the property manager was just great. The pool was a favorite but everyone really loved the lake. There is a private dock and little beach and kayaks, paddle boards and a canoe just for the inn guests. The water was warm and the little beach was just sandy enough to make it great for the kids. We had people out on the lake early in the morning and after dinner many evenings. On the farm we saw beautiful gardens, small ponds, bee hives, lambs, chickens and turkeys. Kevin, Pauline, David, Corey and all the others we met on the farm were extremely nice to our group. We were able to participate in the moving of the lambs from one field to the other which the kids will never forget. One unexpected treat was that there were several different controllers for air conditioning so that we could adjust night time temperatures to match different choices. We went to the Essex Train, Gillette Castle, the Submarine Force Museum, Devils Hopyard water falls, the town of Mystic and Chester. All of these things were a 15-25 min distance from the farm. Also, as FYI, Costco and Stop and Shop are about 7 minutes away This was truly a wonderful week for our group and we highly recommend it to others.

Family get away

The property was perfect for our annual family get together. Most of the time was spent in the pool area, which felt very safe and comfortable. It was fenced in all around, and the pool house included a bathroom, outdoor shower, refrig, and sink. The house itself provided lots of spaces to hang out, a very well supplied kitchen, and a large dining table that sat all 14 of us. Around the farm the kids enjoyed seeing the animals and the tractors. Kevin, the property manager, was very helpful when we arrived, helped us to settle in. We loved everything about the property and would consider going back again next year.

White Gate Wedding

The inn and farm grounds are just beautiful. The staff were so accommodating and went well beyond what is normally expected when renting a property. The inn felt more like a home that a rental. The kitchen was so well appointed as were the rooms. Moving on to the outdoors the lake, pool fire pit, games, grill and picnic tables added up to a wonderful stay. Last but not least the staff were amazing, Tami, Kevin & Pauline - always at the ready. Always answered text messages promptly and did everything to make it the perfect wedding. Many thanks!

Idyllic Country Estate

My husband and I stayed at this property with our family members over the New Year's holiday (Dec. 27th to Jan. 3rd). We had the most amazing time. The house has such wonderful space (huge family room/dining area with an super-sized propane fireplace, large kitchen, and family members got their pick of the numerous bedrooms and bathrooms). Its central location to so many other CT towns makes the property even more special and of course, the immense acreage with the plentiful fields and ponds/lakes makes you feel you are on the most spectacular country estate. Our large mixed breed dog so enjoyed the countless walks we took and smelling every little thing on the property. We thought that we would love to come visit again during the spring/summer/fall to see how different the farm would look during those seasons. The property is so very special and Pauline and Kevin made us feel very "at home" which is the greatest compliment at a VRBO. Thank you for being such great hosts. We hope to return one day soon.

Perfect Farm to Table Wedding Weekend!

We couldn’t be happier with our stay at White Gate Farm, where we hosted our family and friends, for a small wedding weekend celebration. The Inn was immaculate, such a gorgeous home and a stunning property filled with farm land and beautiful gardens to enjoy. Kevin helped make our weekend as perfect as it was. He was always available when we had questions, he assisted in setting up for our ceremony and reception. His communication made for a seamless weekend. Tami and her team of chefs and bartenders were amazing, our meal was outstanding! She was so great and accommodating to work with, from beginning stages up until the big day. We utilized the pool on Sunday for a cookout, which was the perfect way to wrap up our fun filled weekend with family and friends. We cannot thank the team at White Gate Farm enough for their hospitality, would definitely recommend for any couples looking to host a farm to table style wedding! Thanks again!

Exactly what we were hoping for

Three sisters and their families (youngest of the group was 22) from MA, ME, and NY. 11 people total. We’ve had a rough year, losing our dad this past winter. Wanted some time to regroup and enjoy another’s company. My family vacations often and we all agreed that it was the cleanest place we've ever stayed. Absolutely beautiful home, gorgeous kitchen, comfortable rooms and private bathrooms. Huge table by the window, used constantly for meals, impromptu card games, drawing, or whole group evening board games. The farm was a beautiful place to walk, the porch was a perfect place to sit and read. Idyllic all around. We were lucky enough to have Chef Tami prepare us dinner one evening and it was the best decision ever. Relaxing, casual, delicious, and we didn't have to do a thing- all for a price comparable to a nice dinner out. We rebooked for next year before we even left. Not one bad thing to say. Thanks to everyone at the farm, our family needed this so badly!

A perfect, last-minute getaway

We've just returned from a fabulous stay at the White Gate farm. We happened upon this gem of a place after a last-minute change to our original plans, and the owner Pauline and onsite manager Kevin were so helpful in accommodating our large group on short notice. As three families with young children ranging from ages 2 through 8, we couldn't have asked for a better getaway. The farmhouse itself was spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, and it easily accommodated all 11 of us with room to spare. We felt right at home. Beyond the lovely interior, we took full advantage of the countless outdoor amenities. There was a lovely gated pool, with diving board and a full-service pool house (incl. wifi). There were big, well-maintained front- and backyard lawns (badminton, cornhole, and boules were onsite), hiking trails, an entire lake within walking distance with both kid and adult kayaks, SUPs and lifejackets all provided; and then, there were the benefits of the bustling farm. The onsite farmstand rivals farmer's market offerings that we know from our hometowns in Boston, NYC, and DC with fresh produce, meat, baked goods, and more. Farm-to-table meals were literally within arm's reach. We even got to experience a drum circle group lesson with Kevin. Clearly, we're enamored and share this enthusiastic review with appreciation for the hosts' cultivation of this special place.

We rented the entire Inn for a long weekend. The kitchen was fully equipped and easy to work in. Kevin, the Inn Keeper was fantastic. He was able to answer any questions we had and offer recommendations.We also had a family memorial service and the the Inn catered the event for us. Tami G, the head chef was amazing to work with! It was nice having the Farm Stand near by for the wonderful sourdough bread along with other delicious backed goods on Saturday/Sunday. We will definitely be back to White Gate Farm!

We rented the full Inn as well as the "inlet" property attached to it for our wedding at the farm. Our family and close friends spent the weekend with us and enjoyed the pool, grounds, and farm stand. I don't think anyone left without some baked goods and vegetables. Our family raved about the experience and the food. The kitchen is large and well out-fitted with anything one could need for cooking. This allowed for us to make a huge family breakfast which everyone enjoyed in the dining room. The rooms all have their own special character and the beds are all extremely comfortable. The staff were accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend the Inn for your next event or family gathering.

The Farm House was the perfect setting for our family reunion, 10 adults, 4 children. Most of our time was spent in the pool area, which is very family friendly. The house is very comfortable, bed rooms are large and many bathrooms throughout. The kitchen is very well stocked, plenty of service for 14 people and all the gadgets we needed. The kids also enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the animals on the farm.

Perfect destination for active families who love outdoor sports and relaxed comfortable evenings. Wholesome organic foods with incredibly delicious baked goods. Lots of hiking, swimming, kayaking. The small army of staff who sustain the farm are uber friendly and willing to answer questions and show off the critters . A nearby trip to Mystic aquarium should not be missed.

Lovely property, beautiful inn for our family of 14. We all enjoyed the pool, lake, badminton and green space. Special treat to see newborn baby chicks twice and hold them! Kitchen is very well equipped. Having a washer/dryer important too. Kevin and Pauline were helpful.

White Gate Farm was purchased by the owner's mother Ruth Lord in 1974. The daughter of HF duPont of Winterthur, Ruth was drawn to the beautiful land. Her house -- now the inn -- has antiques from her father as well as artwork by her friends Andrew Wyeth and James Stevenson. In 2000, Ruth's daughter Pauline moved with her husband David Harlow from California to begin farming the land. With their crew they grow 55 different crops, all organic. They also raise turkeys, chickens for eggs and meat, and lambs. Chefs make prepared foods and pastries for the farm's online store, open year round, and they are happy to discuss preparing private dinners for Inn guests.
