This 3 bedroom plus study Beach Cottage style home decorated with the nautical flare of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard is sure to delight the most discriminating guest. Located very near the beach in Captiva's Village, breezy porches offer a serene place to relax with a book or dine al fresco. Custom design elements and architectural enhancements add interesting detail to every room.

Spend your days on the beach, then walk to the Mucky Duck for live music, a sunset drink, or dinner in Captiva. Rent a boat at the Marina or arrange a guided fishing expedition. Sanibel is just a short drive away, with its shops, restaurants, bike paths, and amazing shelling. Enjoy the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve, where you can sea kayak through mangrove islands and view rare birds and other wildlife. Much of Sanibel/Captiva is a wildlife preserve; this paradise is yours to explore.

By The Sea is the perfect vacation home for active families, reunions of friends, or a weekend getaway. Especially suited to adult guests, who will appreciate the unique decor and attention to detail. Visitors will enjoy the relaxed pace, and low-key style of Captiva. The soft sands and warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are less than 1 block away. Walk to McCarthy's or Jensen Marina, where you can arrange ocean cruises, wildlife viewing, dolphin/whale watching trips, and deep-sea fishing. Beautiful sunsets are only steps from your door - the highlight of each great day and the beginning of a peaceful Captiva evening.

By The Sea den area was changed to a queen bed. There is now a bedroom with a king bed, a bedroom with twins, and a bedroom with a queen bed. There are two full bathrooms.

Two berth-type child beds are in the study. These are narrower than twin beds but well suited to children, teens, or young adults.

We just got back from our vacation today and me and my family of 5 are already missing this tropical treasure. The location can't be beat. A short walk to the beach or quick ride to restaurants. They provide a wagon, beach chairs and umbrella if you have little ones. We spent every morning in the hot tub when it was still chilly and the afternoon at the beach and pool. Definitely go visit this little slice of heaven.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week. The house is well appointed and a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and the general store. The pool was a refreshing cool down after the beach and fishing. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing stay on Captiva Island.

The property is a cute house with a private pool and hot tub a short walk from the beach. Beach towels, chairs, and a wagon were provided. Screened in porches protected us from the no-see-ums. We made full use of the outdoor grill by the pool, as well as the kitchen. Living room seating was comfortable, as were the beds. We had a wonderful stay.

Perfect location with the beach, restaurant, and shops just a few steps away! The kitchen was well stocked with lots of utensils and cookware. The bathrooms could use some TLC, but overall it was a very comfortable house for our family. Perfect getaway in Captiva!

House was clean and comfortable but fairly outdated. This is the fifth or sixth property we’ve stayed at in the village over the years. Acceptable property but not our favorite. Close to the beach, and close to the Andy Rosse stuff, but could definitely use some capital improvement dollars to get it into this century. Bathrooms and kitchen need to be upgraded. Pool was nice and I do like that it was heated for our January visit. House includes a washer and dryer but the setup was janky: they are on the front porch and wall cabinets inhibit the washing machine access. Check in was super simple. We had no issues that warranted contacting management.

Exceeded Expectations

Beautiful property in a perfect location. Seconds from the beach. Private pool in the backyard was great. Comfortable accommodations. Location is a short walk to the village of Captiva. We enjoyed area restaurants, bike ride in the nature preserve, parasailing, and soaking up the sun at the beach and pool. Also rented a golf cart which added to the whole experience. Highly recommend this wonderful property.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Was very disappointed in the overall quality of this home. The stairs leading up to the front door need to be replaced. The master bath needs to be demoed. Being a little older, it was dangerously difficult to step into the bathtub. My husband could not fit under the shower head without needing to bend over. There were bug poison traps sitting on top of the kitchen counters. (Not comfortable with putting our food on the counters near those)The “3rd” bedroom cannot be considered a bedroom with no closet and you couldn’t even move around the so called bed. The pool was not cleaned when we got there. Pool guy came on Tuesday and put some chemicals in the pool and said we could not use the pool for 24 hours. Very frustrating to pay for something you can not use. Especially for the grandkids. The washer and dryer area was not at all maintained. You couldn’t even open the washer lid all the way. The carpet in the master bedroom was old and dirty and needed to be replaced.

My only concern is that it is listed as 3 bedrooms. This is misleading as one room is for sleeping only. There is no closet, dresser or anyway to walk around the room. Luckily, we had 2 small children who slept in the room. It truly should be listed as 2 bedrooms, can sleep 6.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have been vacationing at Captiva since 2002 and this was the worst rental experience we have had. When we arrived on Saturday evening we opened the lock box for the front door and there were no keys in it. I called the maintenance number and was given the emergency number. I spoke with him and he told us to try the door to the right. Luckily, this door was not locked so we were able to get in.We noticed that the front outer door was extremely hard to open that evening and on Sunday, and in fact we had to leave it open or else we would not be able to get in. You had to have someone inside hold the door on the bottom with their foot and give it a lot of pressure from the inside. On Sunday when I took a shower in the Master Bathroom the tub would not drain so your shower was in ankle deep water. I called the emergency maintenance man and he said he would have someone out first thing Monday. No one showed on Monday, so I called again Monday afternoon and left a message. On Tuesday, I went to the rental office at 9 and they weren't open, I went again at 10 and no one was there. I went at lunch time and luckily someone was there. He was very surprised that no one had come out but he said he would have someone over there in an hour. A very nice maintenance man did come out and he spent quite a bit of time fixing the front door. He had to place new brackets for the door in the floor. He also was able to get the shower to drain. On Wednesday we noticed that the pool was extremely hot to the point it could not be used. I called maintenance again and he said he would have someone stop by before 5. No one ever did. The sink in the Master bathroom became clogged on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. I went back over to the Rental Office and told the person about what was going on. She said they were down a maintenance person and she would do what she could do about the sink and the pool.

Reviewer Comments: Place seemed fine enough if you are looking for 'rustic, wornout' beach house vibe but did have some major issues:- Internet did not work most of the week. Disrupted our vacation multiple times for maintenance and then Xfinity to come fix- Oven did not work. Disrupted our vacation to have maintenance come do exact same thing I did to try to fix, then they had to replace with brand new oven- One of our kids had a reaction to something in one of the bedrooms (coughing, sneezing, congested) and had to move rooms- Washing machine kept getting stuck midcycle - at one point we had to hand rinse our clothes. Unless they have replaced it, recommend do not use it

We arrived for out 2 week stay and notice the entire underside of the house was blocked off due to pool construction. We had lots of paddle boards and beach gear with us, so what were we supposed to do? A little notice would have been nice. Anyway, after talking with American Realty, they made sure we were taken care of. They made sure no construction would take place for the next 2 weeks and allowed us to use what we could for storage on the underside of the house! Very professional and courteous people. There was also some minor master bath sink issues they took care of asap!

It's about a thirty second walk to the beach. We went for my boyfriend's 40th birthday and the house was perfect for just the two of us. It was clean and homey. We really wanted somewhere quiet and laid back and we got it. We would stay here again!

A wonderful two weeks.

My wife, son and his girlfriend stayed here for two weeks. It's a great location - close to the beach and close to the restaurants and shops in town - easy walking distance to both. And yet the neighborhood itself is very quiet. The house was adequately equipped with cleaning supplies when we arrived and clean. And the interior decorating is very cool. The house is ideal for a family with two small kids. If you had more kids or guests it might be a little tight as the other people would have to sleep on the pull out couch which is not ideal. Overall it is a great place. I would definitely stay here again next time we go.

Excellent Jan week-long stay on Captiva/Sanibel

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: In Captiva Jan 19-26, '21, our first.. Did not book thru VRBO. Had a great time. House as nice as in photos. Older, in decent shape, only a couple of minor maintenance issues. $180 cleaning fee on par with other places. Total came to $522/D. Expect 2 weeks to get dam dep back. Clean, cute, cosy decor which we all really enjoyed. Appreciated the fact that owner is thoughtful about guests (unlike many other VRBO-type rentals), there were adequate amenities, plenty of towels, extra sheets, blankets (it was chilly at night). Room to park multiple vehicles. Had an outdoor shower to get the salt off (too chilly to get in the water on this trip). New outdoor grill. Only 2 blocks from beach and small village center with a few nice, casual restaurants and coffee shops. Maintenance company seems responsive -coffee pot leaked, we had a new one later that day. Sunset dinner at the Mucky Duck on ocean is popular for great view. If you want to sit outdoors at sunset make a reservation, even during the week. Most activities are on Sanibel. 1/2 day fishing (Capt Colin Carpenter, highly recommend,.) Was slow but we caught enough for dinner. He worked hard moving us around. Dolphins with baby followed boat was delightful distraction from fish only biting so-so, great photo op! Unlike Keys, only place on Sanibel-Captiva that will prepare catch is Lazy Flamingo. Casual jeans place, did a great job, not too pricey. Spent time in Ding Darling National Wildlife refuge. Should have been on bikes rather than in car. Spend a few hours kayaking Tarpon Bay and mangroves (used Tarpon Bay Explores. A little pricey but they made it easy, plus we learned that kayaks can only be brought into Federal lands by private citizens, not outfitters, and since they are next to preserve it was easy to rent from them and paddle in.) Spent several hours hiking Bailey's Tract, spotting alligators, birds, turtles. Should have biked more. Explored Pine Island - not worth the trip.

Beautiful house close to beach

I recently stayed at this property with my husband and two small children and the house was perfect. It is really a beautiful and fun place to stay in a great location only a very short walk from the beach and restaurants/shops. The house was private and the closest beach never crowded.
