About this property

Harkness Hollow - Custom Built Home on 3.5 Acres

Harkness Hollow is located near the base of Tray Mountain, over looks Chimney Mountain and sits on 3.5 acres west of Sautee, GA. The house was designed by a Landscape Architect, as a mountain retreat, where the beauty of the North Georgia mountains could be enjoyed. His children, including a daughter and son and his wife, have done a renovation that includes many hand built features, including: the decks, fireplace mantel, kitchen shelving, counter tops and pantry door, plus the queen bed in the main bedroom and the main bath vanity and shelving. Hardwood floors, hand hued beams and wood paneled walls, all make for a warm and inviting setting. The kitchen has been newly reimagined, and a custom bar and bench have been built into the deck. There’s a “summer” room, just across the yard, that’s perfect for morning coffee or an evening cocktail. A small pond with a waterfall makes a tranquil sound. A firepit is available for cold evenings. You’ll drink pure, clean well water and enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind home, just an hour and a half drive from Atlanta. Please read our reviews to see what others think.

Unicoi State Park is less than 5 miles away (offering hiking, canoeing, and lake activities), as is Sautee featuring a Pottery Museum, the Old Sautee Store and a number of shops and restaurants. Ziplining, biking and horseback riding are all within an easy drive. Frichey’s, a tradition in the area, is a large road side stand with year-round fresh vegetables and seasonal items.

Beautiful, peaceful, perfect location!
What a perfect stay in Sautee! First of all, Suzanne went above and beyond in helping with some adjustments to our trip. Now for the stay, the location is perfect. Very secluded and a beaufiful view from every window. We even saw deer grazing near the fire pit one morning. The cabin is updated, spacious with a beautful kitchen and fireplace. Our son never wanted to leave as there's plenty room to explore and get into fun onsite. That being said, the cabin is very near to Unicoi, Sautee stores, coffee shop as well as only 15 min from downtown Helen. Highly reccomended and we hope to visit Harkness Hollow again very soon!

About the host

Host profile image
I live in Atlanta, but have spent lots of time in north Georgia, both at this property that was my dad's house (Harkness Hollow) and now at my brother's house that is close by.

Why they chose this property

My brother and my father built this house together. Since my father died, we rented it for a few years before deciding to make improvements and get ourselves on Vrbo. The house is filled with custom carpentry by my brother. The property is filled with the touches from my dad who was a landscape architect.

What makes this property unique

The summer room is a special place to hang out and view the property. The deck is the perfect place to grill and hang out at the bar seating area.
