Great Location!

My son and I stayed here in June. It was a great little flat in a great location. As a single mom traveling with a young son, I felt safe walking to/from the train station, which was close as well as having a secured entrance to the building. There was a grocery store and plenty of places to eat nearby, as well as popular attractions. The flat is a great size for 2 people. We used the bed and sofa-bed and still felt like there was room for our things. Kitchen and bathroom were felt much larger once I was in there. I read reviews before booking that mentioned the noise of the train station. I personally was not bothered by this as I enjoy the sounds of the city, and if I remember correctly they stopped around 10 or 11pm. Nancy also answered all my questions prior to staying. I would recommend this to a friend or stay again!

Great location. Nice view.

This apartment was in a great location. A short walk to many restaurants, hop on hop off bus and subway (tube) stop. Modern building with a very helpful, pleasant desk staff. Modern apartment with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very clean. The owner was quite accessible via email to answer any questions.

GREAT location!

The location is everything you could wish for: short walk to the underground system, plentiful taxis on Cromwell Rd, awesome Italian restaurants (BellaVista is wonderful and the chain, Ask Italian--never thought I'd recommend a chain, but . . .), and clean, secure accommodations. I would have like more than 2 towels for the 2 of us as well as extra pillows, but we managed.

Beautiful space in a great location

Beautiful apartment with a great view of London in the beautiful Kensington neighborhood. As others have noted, with the window open the train can be loud, but with the window closed you don't notice it. We never had an issue with the noise, and found the other aspects of this apartment greatly outweigh this one thing. Spacious bathroom and living room/bedroom, and functional kitchen space. Perfect spot for a couple!

Comfy Apt & Fantastic Location

Our small apt is in a high rise with a view towards Hyde Park and less than 5 mins to Gloucester metro station. The location is fantastic and offsets the size of the apt; along with variety of cafes, restaurants and two supermarkets all within easy walking distance. Our focus was the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, which was approx 20-45 mins walk. The apt has seen use, was comfortable and functioned well with an equipped kitchen, which we used to cook breakfast. In the evening you can see the lights from Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and the top of Prince Albert Monument. However, the train line is right under our front window, which may be a bit noisy for light sleepers; it didn't bother us. Nancy was very responsive to our needs and a gracious hostess. Thank you Nancy for a very nice stay. No hesitation to recommend.

Read Why We Cannot Recommend

We had never been to London, so choosing a place to stay in this big, magnificent city was trial and error. Kensington is certainly a lovely neighborhood, and we enjoyed being walking distance from the Victoria and Albert Museum. The apartment was a short walk from the Tube station, and even as UK novices, navigating by Tube was a snap. The Tube line, however, actually runs right outside the apartment building and at six floors up, we could definitely hear it. Because of the season, we were able to keep the window closed, but it would be a real noise issue in warmer months when one might want fresh air and sleep at night. The building has 24-hour staffing, so it felt safe, and we had no trouble picking up the keys from the friendly desk staff. While overall the apartment was as pictured, there were issues: It was annoying that while the hosts left detailed written instructions on what they needed from us (take out the garbage, turn in the keys, you break-you pay, etc), there were no instructions on what we needed to know: How to operate the washing machine, the dishwasher, or even the fact that one had to turn on a switch on the wall before appliances would function. The bed was okay, but the pillows were shameful - old, nasty and lumpy and really in need of replacement ASAP - an inexpensive fix. There were runners laid down to protect the carpeting, and while that is understandable, the turned-up edges on them were a tripping hazard. Decent tableware and utensils, but the cookware could also use an upgrade. The excellent Sainsbury's grocery store was very close-by, and overall, it was easy to eat at home if we wished. Good pub grub was nearby and a pleasant walk to Kensington High Street led to fine and fun shopping, Kensington Palace, and the Royal Albert Hall. We would not, however, recommend or choose this property again. The primary reason? The non-cancel policy, which is a deal-breaker. Having spent 20 years as a hotel executive, I consider a situation with absolutely no refund after booking to be unacceptable. Percentage refunds tied to timeframes are just and understandable, but unexpected things happen when people make travel plans. On principle, I would never have booked a property with such a restriction. Not paying enough attention was my failure, but It was a valuable lesson. While the reservation was booked with assistance from our travel agent and is tied to her email, all opinions are our own. J and E from Santa Fe, NM, USA

Response from VrboOwner on 23 March 2020
In our holiday rental advert, we have mentioned both the pros and cons with regards to our apartment. Firstly, the apartment is situated in a fabulous location; Kensington borough is one of London’s most expensive and prestigious neighborhoods. Situated right in the city centre, and all tourist attractions are only steps away. The apartment building is modern and well maintained with excellent security and CCTV cameras in lifts and door fob access on the ground floor lobby. Our apartment is a few minutes walk from Gloucester Road tube station. Being located so conveniently close to the tube station, there is inevitably some train noise and we clearly state this on our web/rental page. With regards to our cancellation policy, we are sorry to hear you are not happy with it but it is unfortunate your travel agent did not make you aware of it, as well as the apartments close location to the tube station. Most appliances are straight forward with on/off function and dial settings which are clearly illustrated on the appliance. One of the advantages of staying in a holiday apartment is that you can communicate with the owner directly and therefore we can service the flat quickly. You had always been able to communicate with us without any problems prior to your arrival. We could have easily replaced any of the items you weren’t happy with. Our apartment is very popular with tourists from all over the world. The apartment is highly utilised due to our high occupancy rate as we believe our rates are very competitively priced for the location. With your hotel experience, I am sure you will be awared that running a serviced apartment is not the same as checking into a 5 star hotel where a last minute cancellation can be absorbed owing to the number of rooms available in a hotel. The rugs in the apartment are there to keep the flooring/carpet clean - we cannot vacate the apartment for a carpet wash each time a guest stay as there is likely someone checking in on the same day. We also don’t pretend we are a 5 star hotel hence we don’t charge inflated prices and because of that most guests do not expect 5 star hotel standards when paying low prices. Lastly, we have one kind advice to you: surf the internet and make the reservation yourself; look carefully at the webpage of the property before you book ensuring you know what amenities are available, the cancellation policy and check you are happy with the size and location of the apartment before you go ahead and book.

Comfortable, modern, close to V&A and Natural History Museum

This was my second stay in this flat. From the window one can see the Natural History Museum and beyond that the Victoria and Albert. This trip was my first experience of stereotypical English weather (the other three times were sunny and mild), so it was nice to have a comfortable place to rest between outings. There was one minor maintenance problem, and Nancy was able to get it taken care of. I am a solo traveler, but Nancy's place would be great for a romantic getaway.

Cozy flat in a perfect location!

The overall experience of the flat was great. Located perfectly near the Gloucester tube station the flat is in proximity to so many great attractions and is only a short travel to the best tourist sites in London. The space met most of my needs but seems a little smaller than pictured. I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in London looking for a nice, cozy place in a great location.

Great Location. Responsive Owners

The flat was just as described. It is in a very convenient location. The noise from the trains (as described by other guests) was not an issue. I had difficulty operating the washer/dryer. In the US we have separate machines. Nancy was very helpful in providing guidance. On our third night (4:30 a.m.) we discovered a ceiling leak in the bathroom. Nancy and Terrence responded immediately. It turned out the water heater had sprung a leak and required our move from the flat. They were helpful in helping us locate an alternative place to stay. This works well for two people. Enjoy your stay!

Perfect Location.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The location was perfect and the view was lovely. As previously noted in another review; you are close to the underground metro (you can see the train pass from the window). However, the metro stopped running around midnight so it wasn't bad. The apartment was clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable and spacious for just the two of us. If you had four people it could get a little tight. But you wouldn't be spending all day in the apartment anyway. So not bad. Bathroom is a great size. Kitchen is perfect size for two people working in it. Other than forgetting to dust the ceiling fan, the apartment was clean and well kept. Didn't have any trouble with neighbors or anything. They were always curtious when meeting in the elevator, hallway and lobby. Receptionists were nice as well. Literally down the street from the tube station. As well as walking distance/5 minute tube ride from great food, museums and shopping. We definitely recommend Byron Burger near the tube station. And the pubs down that street. Shopping for groceries was at Sainbury's and Waitrose. Both had good selections. Thank you for such a wonderful place. We loved it and want to come back in the future.

Location is Spot On

Location, location, location. Just a stone's throw from Gloucester Road tube, a Waitrose and Sainsbury's, fantastic French bakeries, Paul and Richoux, a great burger chain and a Japanese restaurant, Umami, plus the major museums of South Kensington. South Kensington features great shopping and restaurants, all within walking distance. Gloucester Road tube on the Picadilly line puts all of London within easy reach including Heathrow without changing. The studio is attractively furnished, modern, clean, safe and accessible, in a consierged building, and quiet for London. Compact but with everything you need and decent value. There is also a David Lloyd gym in the building. You can also see the faraway London eye glowing red at night on the skyline. Our hosts communicated very efficiently, showing up immediately to fix a small problem when we first arrived. We had a very pleasant stay. Paddy and Graham, Nova Scotia, Canada

Cosy, nice but lacked hot water

Nancy replied before and during our stay very quickly. The pictures make the apartment seem bigger than it actually is but we still had our own space and weren't living on top of each other. The apartment is very close to a tube station within a 5 minute walk; however the tube line does run directly behind it so it is very noisy. In generally we felt very safe in this neighbourhood, however there was domestic dispute in the building which was a bit frightful but couldn't be avoided. Luckily it was a one night occurrence. The kitchen was fitted with everything that you would need to cook a meal. Our downside was the fact we didn't have hot water. Nancy and her husband were quick to reply and tried to fix the problem but throughout the 2 weeks we had lukewarm water throughout. As mentioned they tried to get people in to fix it but there was not much they could do. So that was disappointing in the cold weather but were very apologetic and looked into making our stay comfortable. It is concerning that there is no refund policy. It's a nice place to stay but overpriced in our opinion. Nancy and her husband were very nice and helpful.

South Ken / Hyde Park / Chelsea Rental Near Gloucester Road Tube Stop

I loved the location of this apartment. It was so close to so many places, and best of all a short walk to the Gloucester Road Tube stop, and also just yards away from a Sainsbury for groceries and a Starbucks. I was very happy with the security of the building, with a staff at the front desk and locked doors to get into the unit. I was grateful for the elevators! The kitchen was a nice size. I was very disappointed that the refrigerator's freezer had clearly not been thawed in a very long time, with inches of ice that were impossible to melt, making it very difficult to store frozen items for food. The bathroom was OK. I would not advise this place for anyone with slight mobility issues, because the bathtub was up very high and I had to step up to get into it, and the shower/bath had no hand railings or anything, so it was somewhat dangerous and tricky with being slippery. The bed was OK, just very low and close to the floor, thus difficult to get in and out of. My major complaint which I think EVERYONE needs to know before renting this flat is that it is that the Tube goes right past the Point West Tower. You will constantly hear the loud rumblings of incoming and outgoing trains every few minutes. It begins at dawn, around 5am and goes constantly until it stops for the evening around 1am. Sadly, I am not a heavy sleeper, but neither a light sleeper, and this kept me up a great deal, every night, so I was quite sleep deprived by the end of my trip, and this significantly hampered the time I was able to get up and out each day for touring, and was extremely tired at night, and still not able to sleep. ~ This place also refuses to refund any amount of money for cancellation. After the Paris terrorist attacks, a month before my trip, I was reluctant to travel, yet was told I could not cancel any of my trip without losing 100% of my payments. I would think there should be flexibility with compensation when terrorism is so close to London. I also feel that the reason for the strict no-refund policy is that perhaps the owners fear if a renter learns about how constantly noisy it is, they would want to cancel their reservations. ~

Great location, comfort, and view

This is on the 6th floor of an elevator building and has a wonderful view of central London. Although I stayed alone, Two people could stay in perfect comfort. There's a full, separate kitchen (not a kitchenette) with a full size refrigerator/freezer for those who like to cook their own, and plenty of restaurants nearby for those of us who'd rather let someone else do the work. My only concern is that there's no refunds if you need to cancel; I think if a person must cancel within a reasonable period they should get at least a partial refund; the owner should find it easy to get a replacement renter for this beautiful unit.

Location was excellent

We rented out the flat based on the previous reviews and were not disappointed. The location was great - close to the tube, science/natural history museums and Kensington Park even an awesome grocery store (Waitrose) for breakfast goodies to start the day right!! The clothes washer and dryer combo didn't dry out clothes fully but air dried in a half day--esp. jeans....instructions would help...maybe??? Otherwise, everything worked great from the check-in to departure:)
