About this property

Backcountry Yurt in Private Valley

This is an off grid property with total isolation in a hidden canyon. Off-grid means there are limited amenities (outhouse not toilet, no fridge, tv etc.) and only what can run on solar power. There is clean running water. The yurt is on 160 acres of private ground surrounded on all sides by the Sawtooth national forest. A creek runs through the middle. You will have to chop wood, use an outhouse and get by without any chance of human assistance. For some, this is paradise. For others this is the opposite. Access to the property requires some effort. In the summer access across the private forest track can be had by horse, mountain bike, truck or ATV. In the winter, it's a sled and back country ski paradise. Detailed directions and instructions are available for discussion before you commit.

This was our second stay at the yurt. There have been some key updates since our last stay 2 years ago. It's a great mix of rustic, practical amenities in a secluded location with welcomed comforts like electricity and hot water for an off grid getaway.

Yurt life was good

We loved our stay and the scenery exceeded expectations. The yurt was clean and had plenty of amenities. Seeing the milky way with my bare eye was amazing. Perfect spot for a seculed easy to access getaway.

When it says off the grid, they're not kidding. I should of been more prepared. I was under the impression it was closer to the creek from one of the pictures, but looking closer it was melted snow on the road. I was looking forward to being near some type of water. So I was disappointed. The outhouse is pretty far from the Yurt, and I did not feel safe hiking out there alone at night. Never did find the hot tub. There were dead mice in traps and a dead bat in the sink. Lots of flies and bees. Very hot during the day, wish there were fans.The downstairs add on has lots of potential and much cooler, however the stairs are sketchy, so sometimes its easier to just go out the front and around to the bottom/top. Overall I appreciated the literally getaway, but ended up staying 1 night instead of the 2 I booked. Communication with the host was great prior to getting there. However once we were there I had zero reception so there was no longer a way to communicate.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry it was not what you expected. If you want to pm me to arrange for a stay in a cooler season I'm happy to accommodate. HOWEVER, I really hope future renters will read this helpful review--this is off grid, hard to get to, and for adventurers only. You may see a bear, a fox, a wolf, elk, deer and rattlesnakes and apparently a bat in the sink (this is a new one). If these things make you uncomfortable please do not rent. The statements in my instructions are not marketing when I say "If an uncomfortable adventure with the possibility of real harm does not appeal to you, this is not for you." and "things that might go wrong include: getting lost....rattlesnake bite... etc." If you are the kind of person in the back country that sees a bat in a sink and says, awesome, there's a sink, or a mouse in a trap and says, better there than running around, you will be happy.

Peaceful and private

This yurt is in such a beautiful place. Directions were detailed and specific, creek is lovely, and solar power is a great addition. Private hideaway for those who are willing and able to navigate the dirt road in. Would certainly return!

Weekend Getaway

The Yurt is a beautiful, private and peaceful place to stay and we wished we could have stayed a few more days to enjoy it. Very clean and well stocked with everything you would need. The solar power was and added bonus. The property is exactly as described. Aaron was an amazing host and very responsive to any questions we had. We used the side by side to get to the property and we will definitely be back.

Amazing backpacking adventure

Aaron’s yurt was a great new adventure for us and our teen kids! Beautiful secluded area and the yurt is comfortable w the basics needed for cooking & even a grill. Yet it’s rustic enough that you need to chop wood, get water and trek to the outhouse- so perfect adventure for the Outdoorsy!! The hot tub was amazing- did take a little longer than expected to heat- so start early. Once we learned to feed the fire often and the ice melted on the bottom is was toasty hot and such a fun experience!! The yurt was about 4 miles in from car to doorstep- pretty good hike up in the snow- but easy hike out downhill! Beautiful panoramic views too! Would definitely recommend!!

Honestly, i have been struggling with depression lately and have been really needing to get away. My husband seen this in me and took it upon himself to find a little getaway for my birthday. So Friday we set out on our adventure, at first we got a little lost thanks to trusty map quest, lol. We found service and called Aaron. He directed us right to our destination with ease. Upon arrival, we noticed the door was open so of course what does a woman do, send her husband in to ward off the obvious bear that had to be inside. No, no bear... something far more scary than a bear... it was a pack rat. So of course how for you keep a pollock entertained in a round yurt? Have him catch a pack rat! ( i can day this because my husband is polish). It was a scare and a laugh i needed. The scenery was incredible! The stars were amazing! We felt like the only humans on earth. We had two cow friends that said hi every morning. Tons of birds and bees. Heard coyotes, had a weasel friend too. Definitely a place to erase your mind. Thank you Aaron for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

Very well equipped!

Me and the ol lady had a wonderful stay here for Christmas. Came in on snowmachines. Very impressed how well the yurt held in the heat. Most equipped place like this I've stayed at. Basically everything you'll need is there. Aaron is a great host and cares about your stay. Will be back.

Anniversary getaway

My wife and I stayed at this yurt for a couple nights to celebrate our anniversary. We really enjoyed getting out of town and having some time to ourselves. The yurt was well equipped and was everything we expected and more. Would definitely stay again. We used a side by side to get to the property.

Just As Promised!

We enjoyed our stay and the secluded location of the yurt. It was so peaceful. We appreciated having the yurt to get out of the thunderstorm, to sleep, play games and keep all our food and clothes out if the elements. We appreciated the grill outside, the camp stove inside and all the kitchen basics. It’s glamping at its best. The property Is exactly as described and probably not for everyone. It’s perfect for our family! Aaron was very easy to work with and the directions to the yurt were perfect. We will be back!

Wonderful Escape

We absolutely loved our experience at this property. It’s rugged beauty combined with creature comforts made it the perfect place to relax and recharge off grid. It may not be for everyone, but we sure enjoyed every second of our stay. Can’t wait to return again in the future.

Backcountry digs with luxury amenities!

Loved this yurt! Great location, everything you need for cooking and purifying water is there. We enjoyed beautiful views on cross country skis and the hot tub alone is worth going for a stay.
