Our visit here was for 4 night 3 days. This property is amazing. Pictures do not do the landscaping & natural beauty of the grounds justice. The house is very nice, everything my wife & I needed. Comfortable bed & strong hot shower. We spent our time outdoors in the beauty of nature. No matter where you took a seat on the huge patio area, every where you looked was beauty. So calm, so relaxing. We used this home as a staging stop, so that we could go visit the Boruca Village. After our visit we stayed on the property for the next 2 days, just relaxing & taking in the sounds & sights of nature. Thanks so much for the use of your beautiful home.

Beautiful house and views!
It was a nice place to stay on my vacation, the house was great, communication was great, much more beautiful everything than I expected.
What a great place! The accommodations were 5 star and the birds and nature was a 10 out of 10. It was quiet on the mountain side and the sunsets over the ocean were great. We would definitely come back here and stay longer next time.
We spent 18 days/nights at this site. It totally lived up to everything we do dreamed of. Jungle experience with a short drive to beaches, stores, and restaurants. We're already discussing the next trip back to this luxurious location... with the kids this time . Definitely a 10/10!!
A compact getaway on a beautiful jungle acreage. Clean and new with all the comforts one might hope to expect. Lots of outdoor space to enjoy, including a pool. Lots of bird action. And an awesome view. Memorable sunsets. The only minor criticism is that it’s off the beaten track and you have to drive to restaurants and beaches
The house was perfect for the two of us - plenty of room, but not too big. The gardens are very nice and well planned to attract butterflies. It has amazing views and is very private and not at all overlooked by other houses. The best thing is the number and variety of birds to watch, like scarlet macaws, toucans and aracaris, as well as the other wildlife. We were fortunate enough to watch a large group of white faced capuchin monkeys travelling through nearby trees.
Was absolutely amazing. If we had found it earlier we probably would of stayed here for our whole trip. As it was we extended our stay here three days. A perfect slice of paradise. Super well stocked house as far as kitchen and bathroom amenities go, super comfy beds, an amazing pool, and immaculate cleanliness. Couldn't rave about this place more if we tried. We had Scarlett Macaws, Capuchins, Toucans and hawks on a daily basis.....the Luminescent beetles were the perfect touch for night swims.
Can we somehow give 5+ stars?!?! How is it possible to take a vacay in Paradise and make it even better? Well, this is the place to make that happen!
We frequent VRBO’s pretty regularly, and have never had a better experience than our time here. Danny & Rebecca have thought of every detail to make you never want to leave your home away from home.
Preparing for our journey was a breeze, thanks to the wonderful coordination & communication. Upon arrival, greeted by the smiling & sincere Edwin was just the tip of loveliness we experienced from the locals.
You’ll never want to leave the house. The floral, the fauna, the critters, butterflies, and sunsets will take your breath away. Early mornings & evenings are especially captivating. Surround sound as nature starts/finishes the day, and then a slight breeze to get the chimes going. Mother Nature just loves this place and you can certainly feel her smile here.
While we ate our way through many of the local restaurants, Fusion Restaurant just a few minutes down the road, served as a great repeat. The many fruit stands that fit the drive also make for *perfect* afternoon smoothies back at the house, cause of course they even thought of that - Ninja blender, pineapple corer, fully stocked kitchen etc.
Location. Location. Location. About a 4hr drive from San Jose, perfectly located if you’re looking for a bit less people, but a lot of Paradise. Situated near Uvita, means you get the best that Costa has to offer - rainforests, beaches, and waterfalls.
...and speaking of waterfalls, make sure to make time to hit Uvita waterfall. We saved the best for last with this one! Went on a Saturday afternoon, fret not - there were maybe a dozen people there? Mostly locals, brave enough to slide down the Uvita waterfall!!! You’ve just never experienced anything like it!
Our only regret? We didn’t have time to take advantage of a waterfall hike with Edwin, guess we’ll have to come back (SOON!).
Thank you so much for sharing your dream with our family!

About the host
Hosted by Danny Rawls
About nine years ago, we had a dream of living part-time in Costa Rica. Today, that dream has become a reality!
Over the past nine years, we’ve had the opportunity to stay in many different vacation homes throughout Costa Rica. Each experience taught us something new about what makes a home comfortable, welcoming, and truly enjoyable. We took everything we loved—and everything we wished was different—and incorporated those lessons into the design and construction of our own home.
We built Casa de Las Mariposas with comfort, functionality, and the guest experience in mind. Our hope is that when you stay with us, you’ll feel more like you’re at your own private Costa Rican home than simply staying at a vacation rental.
We’re excited to share this special place with you and hope you enjoy your stay as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it for you!
Welcome to Casa de Las Mariposas!
Why they chose this property
We chose this neighborhood because it offers the perfect balance of peace, privacy, natural beauty, and accessibility. We fell in love with the area because it feels like authentic Costa Rica—surrounded by lush tropical jungle, incredible wildlife, and beautiful Pacific Ocean views, while still being close enough to enjoy the area’s beaches, waterfalls, restaurants, and local attractions.
We wanted Casa de Las Mariposas to be somewhere guests could truly slow down, relax, and experience the natural beauty of Costa Rica, rather than staying in a crowded tourist destination. At the same time, the nearby towns of Uvita and Ojochal provide everything you need for dining, shopping, adventures, and exploring.
For us, this neighborhood was the perfect choice because it gives you the feeling of being away from it all while keeping Costa Rica’s incredible attractions within easy reach. It’s a place where you can wake up to the sounds of the jungle, enjoy breathtaking sunsets, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
What makes this property unique
Casa de Las Mariposas is more than just a vacation rental—it’s your own private escape into the beauty of Costa Rica. Nestled in the lush tropical surroundings of San Buena, our home combines breathtaking Pacific Ocean views with the incredible Costa Rican jungle, giving you the best of both worlds.
Enjoy your own private pool, peaceful surroundings, and the feeling of being away from it all while still being conveniently located near the beautiful beaches, waterfalls, wildlife, restaurants, and attractions of the Uvita and Ojochal area.
What truly makes Casa de Las Mariposas special is the experience. We designed our home based on our own experiences staying in vacation rentals and the things we wished they offered. Our goal is simple: to provide a comfortable, welcoming home where you can relax, explore, and experience the real Costa Rica.
Whether you’re watching the sunset over the Pacific, relaxing by the pool, exploring nearby beaches and waterfalls, or simply listening to the sounds of the jungle, Casa de Las Mariposas gives you an authentic Costa Rican experience that you’ll remember long after you leave.
Jungle. Ocean. Adventure. Privacy. Comfort. Costa Rica. Welcome to Casa de Las Mariposas!
