Listed with the local historical society, this rustic, 1870s gingerbread-inspired home is all about location location location and embracing a simpler time. Boasting two decks and a front porch, pick your favorite spot for some cozy lounging. The second-floor deck in particular is perfect for sunbathing or simply gazing at the sea of stars at night. Meanwhile, the back deck is ideal for after-beach activities thanks to the outdoor shower and gas grill. Wash the sand off from your beach expedition earlier in the day, throw something on the grill, and reflect on the day's adventures while the food sears to perfection.

After enjoying your mornings at home taking in the sights and cooking breakfast, you can begin your adventures. Oak Bluffs is known as the busiest and most exciting part of the island. There are hundreds of restaurants and shops to jump in and out of as well as miles of beaches to explore! After you've worn yourself out and you need to head home to recharge. Your holiday house offers all the charm and delight you need. Though it has received several upgrades such as a new air-conditioner, heat splits, and a new septic system, your retreat effectively serves as a snapshot of the past.

This home is only a short walk (.5 miles) from the Oak Bluffs ferry, making it an easy destination to reach once on the island. Oak Bluffs' main street, Circuit Avenue, is .4 miles away where you can find island favorites such as Nancy's and Lookout! The house is also only three miles away from the Vineyard Haven Ferry Terminal if you enter the island from this port! There are dozens of beaches to choose from on the island but the closest one is Marinelli Beach just .7 miles away!

6/10 Okay

Don't arrive in the dark
We could not find the house. In "maps" the house is marked at the wrong spot. It turns out to be in an odd location, i.e. the side of the street with the odd numbers even though it has an even number. Recognizing it in the dark was doubly difficult also because the photo in the listing is actually the side of the house, not the front. When we arrived, we also found the house wide open, not only not locked but doors open. It took us until the next morning to find the lockbox. The location of the lockbox was not mentioned in the confirmation texts we received. I suggest to add that to the check in message. The bedrooms were nice and the size of the house appropriate. The kitchen was large and enough cooking utensils were provided for preparing meals. The so called bath room was a joke. It's not a room. It's a bath tub in the corner of the hallway and a tiny powder room. The shower looked so ancient we decided to not use it (not an option for a longer stay).

It took us over an hour to get into the house, and with a tainted feeling - and in the dark - our first impression was not great. However, it didn't take us long to call this our quaint 1800's vaca home! The only disappointment is that it was advertised with a coin laundry; turned out that was in town! Also, with a little $$ and TLC, this could make a MUCH better first impression.

Nice Location
We enjoyed our stay. Charming cottage just close enough for lovely walk to the harbor and far enough to be peaceful. Epitome of cottage experience. We would stay here again happily.

Lots of issues
This house is a step up from camping as it has running water and electricity. Unlike camping, though, there is little fresh air. Most of the windows are painted/warped shut so you have no way to get away from the overpowering smells of mothballs and must. We wanted to take advantage of the sea breeze, but couldn’t. The kitchen was unusable as every plate and pan smelled of mothballs. There are mousetraps along with mothballs that suggest there’s a mouse problem, The furniture is old and lends to a sort of dilapidated and unclean feeling, including a wicker chair with its arm held on with packing tape. The deck most definitely does not have a harbor view-as promised in the description. It is on a residential street with some trees and other houses all around. The location is convenient, about 2/3 mile into town, The decks and outdoor shower were the only bright spots. We spent all our time outside on the deck (until the bugs started to bite at night) or away from the house. I am expecting a refund.
