About this property

Cosy, remote crofter's cottage overlooking Loch Torridon, Idyllic, Pet-friendly

Achbeag is a traditional croft house in a remote wilderness that has been converted into a very comfortable holiday cottage. It retains many of its original features, with exposed stonework in the sitting room and a multi-fuel stove. It has one en-suite double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Broadband is included.
The cottage has been upgraded over the winter with fresh, comfy carpets throughout and with a new kitchen, which offers increased storage space for food, easier recycling, and a washer-dryer.

The small, remote village of Fearnmore is approximately 25 minutes' drive from Applecross village and 25 minutes' drive from Shielding. Achbeag has stunning views across Loch Torridon towards the Torridonian mountains and the Western Isles, with beautiful beaches nearby. The surrounding landscapes are breathtaking. Achbeag is a great base for exploring the Applecross peninsula, which offers a beautiful coastline, mountaineering, mountain-biking, sea kayaking, fishing, ancient woodlands with rare species of mosses and lichens, wildlife, and excellent local food.

Please note that the cottage is in a remote wilderness and as a result we do inevitably share it with wildlife from time to time. Bats roost in the attic in the summer. Bats and their habitats (including our house) are also protected under UK law, so we are not allowed to remove them- nor would we wish to: they do no harm and they eat the midges!

About the host

I live in East Lothian, Scotland, with my husband and 2 boys. As a family, we love the outdoors and we bought Achbeag so that we could all enjoy spending time in one of our favourite parts of Scotland. As younger children, my boys loved to go down to the little natural harbour at Fearnmore to potter around in the bay and on the rocks. No they are older, they wander further afield on their own. Between us all, we love swimming with the seals, paddleboarding, mountain biking on the fantastic local routes, road biking, and boating on the loch, as well as taking the boys up the odd mountain when they can be persuaded!

Why they chose this property

We love Achbeag because it is hidden away and nestled in a sheltered part of Fearnmore, and it has wonderful sea views from every room. It is very cosy with its multi-fuel stove in the sitting room. It is the perfect size for a small family (up to 4) and it is warm and comfortable all year round. At Achbeag, we can be thoroughly disconnected from the rest of the world, and have a truly restful time.

What makes this property unique

Achbeag offers all the conveniences of a modern home but with the character and feel of a cosy croft house.
