On the north shore of Kauai, Hale Koolau Estate sits behind wooden gates and among the tropical landscape of a private, half-acre (2023m2) lot. With spectacular views of Bali Hai (Mt. Makana) and just a short stroll to Tunnels (Makua) beach. Hale Koolau Estate invites guests to immerse themselves in an authentic island lifestyle.

The main home, Hale Koolau, is a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom getaway drenched in natural light and boasts an expansive, wraparound lanai, perfect for indoor/outdoor living. The master bedroom has a California King-size bed and en suite bathroom with a stone shower. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. The large, third bedroom aka the bunk room is separate from the main house and can sleep up to nine guests and has an attached bathroom.

Hale Koolau's outdoor shower refreshes you after a day of hiking the cliffs of the Na Pali coast or an afternoon of swimming in the blue Pacific Ocean. Relax on the lanai, where views of emerald green mountains constantly remind you of the appeal of island life. Soak in the newly added hot tub after a day of play.

Canopied in tropical foliage is Hale Koolau Treehouse, the second home on the estate. Vacation like you’re living among the treetops in a charming and bright, one-bedroom/one-bath house on Kauai’s north shore. The Treehouse is complete with all amenities including Air Conditioning.

This cozy island getaway features a large master suite with a king-size bed and private lanai. The Rainforest granite, hand-made copper sinks and full-size washer and dryer make this treehouse lush with modern amenities and style.

Enjoy the island life when you take in the spectacular mountain views from the lanai, grill on the BBQ, or refresh yourself in the outdoor shower.

House was just as beautiful as the pictures online, super clean & comfortable. Kitchen was equipped with everything you would want. Loved the large table on the deck for breakfast & our Thanksgiving dinner. There were tons of beach towels & beach chairs. Grandsons loved the bunk room & the big front yard to play in. Easy walk to beach.

The property is incredible. The management company is as well. Uncontrollable issues at the property happened the morning we were supposed to check in and they did everything to make sure we were considered and taken care of. Will definitely try to stay here again if we make it back to the island. Highly recommend.

Lovely Family Holiday

We were a group of 11 members of an extended family that had a 2 week stay in this home. We enjoyed the many bridges on the way, mountain views, and the large lawn to play. We also enjoyed the very nice hot tub. It was a close drive and/or walk to the most beautiful beaches on the island.

Great Family Vacation.

Wonderful secluded estate. We loved everything about the home and it was the perfect size for our extended family (total: 11). So quite at night and their are no words to describe the stars! Hopefully we will be able to stay in this location again soon.

What an incredible property

The location is amazing and there are so many thoughtful touches throughout the property that make life a little easier and more enjoyable. The layout is very well done utilizing the space very well. The location is right next to th best snorkeling in Hawaii and it's never really that busy. I will absolutely stay here again on my next big family trip!!

Perfect family place

Our three generations had a great time at the house. The bunkhouse was just right for the youngsters, the kitchen was well equipped for family meals and the outdoor dining table was so nice for our gatherings. We appreciated the beach supplies--chairs, coolers, towels, etc. Loved hearing the ocean and the short drive to Hanalei.

This property is fantastic! It’s clean, spacious, and beautiful. It’s close to the beach. The house is fully stocked including beach chairs, umbrellas, and sand toys. The perfect property

My parents (mid 70s/late 60s), my brother and his partner, my wife and kids (aged 4 and 10 months) stayed at this lovely north shore property for just shy of a week. The house was spectacularly clean, well-appointed, and comfortable. We took walks to the beach every day. We enjoyed watching the bright green geckos while enjoying our morning coffee. This beautiful house is located in a secluded area on the north coast. All the rooms were appointed for island use. The beds were comfortable the bathrooms very nice. The lania was spacious and used every night for dinner. There were no bugs at all. The a.c. Was actually too cold. Loved it

This place is amazing. We had 14 people and everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. (The couch in the tree house is a pull out bed!) There was also so much open space outside. From the patio area under the house to the patio area in front of the bunk room, everyone was able to spread out however they wanted to eat meals or just get away from the madness. The location of the property is perfect for Tunnels beach which, hands down, has the best snorkeling access. It is also close to the Na Pali Coast Hike trailhead. This allowed the group that went on the hike to easily just walk back to the house (2 miles) and we didn’t have to worry about parking. (You do need a permit to hike). The pictures do not do this place justice. It is so spacious and has a lot of kitchen appliances. The company is very hospitable and provides towels, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs/umbrellas, detergent, and even has a good car vacuum to help clean the sand from the cars. (Also, plenty of room to park multiple cars which we needed) Overall, if you are looking for a place that is spacious and beautiful, this is the place for you.

Excellent North Shore Hideaway

I stayed here with my extended family--including 4 adults and 2 teenagers--for one week. The property was lovely, well-kept, and clean. The photos and listing description seemed accurate. During our stay, I appreciated the thoughtful amenities in the house, including flashlights by the front doors (it gets dark in the country!), plenty of ocean toys (boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc), and plenty of propane gas for the grills, etc. We cooked-in almost every night, and we appreciated the well-equipped kitchens. We found all the right tools and serving dishes for our needs. The location to the beach is great. We walked to Tunnels Beach almost every day! Overall, we had a positive experience, and I appreciated the quick and responsive communication from the property management team as questions arose.

We rented the main house and the treehouse unit for our large group of 13. It was clean, spacious, and beautifully designed. Beach towels, snorkel masks, fins, coolers, beach umbrellas were included. Makana Properties were very responsive and answered all questions I had promptly. They sent detailed instructions which made check in and check out very easy. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this estate!

The location is beautiful, a two minute walk to the beach, and close to some of the islands best hiking trails. The tree house was adorable and the multiple kitchens onsite was such a nice feature of the home. The only thing that was a annoyance was that both houses have great AC but the bunk roomThat sleeps the most people didn’t have AC. There were also a lotOf bugs that were in there. The combo impeded on peoples sleep.

The estate was perfect for us (and the grandkids especially enjoyed the large grassy area and the underneath part of the house. All the beach gear was a welcome surprise, too! Wifi worked well. AC worked well. Private yet located in a wonderful neighborhood. Makana Kauai staff were VERY helpful and responsive. Nothing but 100% praise from this very grateful family. Aloha and Mahalo!

The living areas flowed right out to the wrap around decks where we could enjoy the beautiful garden with tropical plants and many lovely birds ! As our 3 year old grandson said , while rocking in a big rocking chair on the deck , “ it doesn’t get any better than this !” The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and store all of our food ! We enjoyed eating our meals out in the long table on the deck ! We appreciated the beach gear including coolers , tents , chairs snorkel gear and a few toys ! The beach towels were huge and very nice , too ! We had plenty of room for parking our 3 cars . The bunk room was perfect for our son , daughter in law and grandsons to spread out and enjoy . The treetop house was dreamy either the best views of all ! The main house was perfect for gathering and enjoying one another . All spaces were super clean and well organized . We loved it all !!

Amazing!!

The property is PERFECT! We hadn’t been to Kauai prior to this trip, after going across the island I really feel like we got one of the best homes and locations available. It is fairly secluded and quiet. It’s so clean and has everything you could think of. We only had to rent a couple surf boards but they have chairs and towels and boogie boards. Everything is extremely clean which I can imagine is attention to detail with all the sand that comes in and out. The views from the property were just amazing. So peaceful. Very safe location. The roosters wake you up but we learned quick to use our white noise apps and it was just part of the experience those cute little roosters. 😆 We loved going to hanalei bay beach the best which is only about 15 minutes away. We were there in January and it had the perfect waves to practice surfing for beginners. Beautiful!! I can’t wait to go back.
