An idyllic, very private guest house on a beautiful, property next adjacent to Lava Tree State Park. Clean, spacious, overlooking a pond with the friendliest ducks we've ever met. Kent and Melanie, the very kind owners of this paradise, made sure that we had all that we needed. Would highly recommend!!

Beautiful property!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The couple who own the VRBO were great people, and so accommodating. The property was great. We really could not ask for more, except we wished we could have stayed longer. Definitely would come back.

Beautiful peaceful retreat

Bowman’s guest house is a darling little house on a tranquil tucked away property. It is a delight for all the senses. Great place to unwind and enjoy the company you’re with. The beds are comfy and we loved juicing oranges each morning with our fresh eggs. We enjoyed exploring the Pahoa area and would definitely stay here again.

A piece of paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kent and Marlene’s guest house, especially the big windows looking out on their beautiful property, the delicious fresh eggs and fruit, and the quiet and solitude. It is perfectly located for exploring the Hilo side of the island and the Volcanoes National Park.

Lovely Place

An adorable guest house, well kept and cleaned, with full kitchen facility. Located in a nice farm - wish we'd spent more time to explore (came home late every evening). Friendly hosts. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the nice review, we enjoyed having you here. Hawaii County law prohibits vacation guest houses from having a kitchen (which basically means a stovetop and oven), so we supply our guests with a beautiful induction unit for indoor cooking, and an electric grill on the deck for BBQ. Cheers!

A Tropical Paradise

If you’re looking to kick back and relax, this is the place to stay. The guesthouse is just as pictured, situated in a beautifully landscaped setting. You’ll awaken to the clucking of the owner’s hens which also provide you with fresh eggs upon request. You’ll go to sleep to the sweet sounds of the coqui. Lava beds, beaches and funky shops and restaurants are close by. We highly recommend this guesthouse.

Great place to stay

The owners were very nice, quickly responded to our questions. The place was extremely clean, and very quiet (other than the coqui ) which is great for me. Their songs help me sleep. The listing and pictures are as described. The kitchen was furnished with pots, pans, and utensils. We cooked on the grill every night. The house is about 10 minutes from Pahoa. We'll definitely stay there again.

Our new adventure

It began as a opportunity, but turned into a wonderful dream the property is such a green magical place. The blooming flowers rolling grass field and majestic palms. Fresh chicken eggs, the crocking of the frogs . It was hard to leave. Getting away from the busy life of the city and stepping back in time to a lovely peaceful place. This place will hold a special time for our family. Must visit. The hosts were so accommodating and helpful when needed.

A Peaceful Retreat

On arrival at Bowman's Big Island Guest House there is an immediate sense of tranquility. You are welcomed by a peaceful farm environment surrounded by jungle. The guest house is cozy but well appointed and has everything you need. With a large fridge, induction cooktop and outdoor grill you can cook when you feel like it, or take a short drive to the nearby restaurants. We loved being able to feed the fish, wander the farm, have outdoor space for the kids to play, and relax as the sun set to the sounds of birds and coqui frogs. Kent and Melanie were amazing hosts and gave us excellent advice on how to maximize our vacation. The guest house is perfectly located if you want to see the volcano, see where lava flows meet the sea, or check out the farmer's markets between Pahoa and Hilo. We had an amazing and very relaxed vacation and would absolutely recommend this place for anyone considering a visit to Big Island!

Great property/Great location

Very nice, if spartan, guest house. It is exactly as described on VRBO. You're not getting the Ritz Carlton, but you're not paying for it either. The key thing about this place is that it is immaculately clean, and that goes a LONG ways for any place I stay. Kent was exceptionally prompt in replying to messages, and the directions were perfect to the place. The highest compliment that I can give this property is that I would and will stay here again.

Peaceful retreat in a beautiful setting

Enjoyed the solitude and beauty of this guest house. Roosters, geckos, and lots of colorful birds right next door to Lava Tree monument. It is a good base for exploring Hilo, volcanoes, and the Puna coast, and the quaint town of Pahoa is close by. Very relaxing, thanks for hosting us here.

Quiet

Guest cottage was as described. Needs some more items for the kitchen to be up to par for making real meals though: a colander and a peeler would be a huge help. It would have been helpful to know WHERE to take the trash out. Didn’t love the rooster that woke my husband up every morning. The location is perfect, being right next to Lava Tree State Park.

Beautiful big Island property

Had a fantastic time staying in Kent's guesthouse. It was clean, comfortable, and had plenty of privacy. The property itself is calm and very relaxing - and while it's a bit far from the typical attractions, it was still an excellent home base from which to explore Hilo side :) Mahalo nui loa, e Kent!

Peaceful Island Getaway

Such a beautiful place! Charming, well appointed cottage situated near the back of the property surrounded by forrest preserve. The Bowmans were very gracious hosts and furnished us with fresh eggs from their chickens! Hoping our travels take us back here soon.

Amazing Getaway Spot

My husband and I LOVED staying here during our last 3 days on the island. We previously stayed in Kona and it was extremely busy and touristy. But Ken and Melanie's guesthouse was just what we needed to take a step back and enjoy the peace that Hawaii has to offer. The landscape was beautiful and secluded. The guesthouse was also within reasonable driving distance to Hilo. Would definitely stay again!

Secluded Getaway

My SO and I had a great getaway at the Bowman's guest cottage. It looked to have been recently renovated and furnished with tasteful, simple finishes and amenities. They welcomed us w/ fresh eggs from their hens and a box of Macadamia Nut chocolates, both of which were welcome. If you're looking to unplug (and I do mean that--there's no tv, no wifi, and cellular data on AT&T was spotty for me) and get away (you're very much not in town) this is an A+ spot to do it.

Quiet Paradise

We rented this beautiful place for 10 days. It was very clean and quiet. The owners were very nice, polite, and responsive to any question or concern we had. The rooster woke us up every dawn and the rain was a beautiful sound to wake up or sleep through the night. Overall it was a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend.

Relaxing, Beautiful Stay

The Bowman’s were great hosts! They came over to the guest house to greet us upon arrival and let us know they were available if we needed anything during our stay. Their main house is a nice distance from the guest house. Our group of three came for meetings and team building so we were thrilled with the privacy, clean rooms, bathroom and kitchen/dining area. The backdrop of their beautiful property made having hours long discussions on the deck and in the dining area peaceful yet productive. High recommend!

Great Escape

If you want to get away and disconnect, this guest house will provide that for you. Hosts were welcoming and kind. Amazing views and property. Nice to a local hiking trail. Check it out.

Incredible night sky. Serenaded to sleep by the frogs

Very clean. Beautiful property. The host provided fresh eggs and fruit produced on the property. Suggest this house is for a maximum of 2 adults. Very small children might be able to sleep on the futon but it's too hard for a teenager or adult. Would be helpful to have a luggage rack or two. Fair warning that it gets light at 5am in the summer and with minimal window coverings, the whole place is light. The covered parking and complimentary Aloe were great.

We enjoyed our stay and we would return again. Quiet and relaxing.

We pulled in late, well after dark in the rain. Next day, after day break, we finally enjoy the well kept property. It was nice and quiet and we felt very safe at this property. The owners were very nice and accommodating.
