The house is set back in privacy on the wooded property, drive past the seasonal creek and barn. Master bedroom is fully furnished, with a sliding door opening to center patio. It has it’s own private bathroom. Second bedroom is also furnished, with easy hallway access to the oversized guest bathroom with JACUZZI TUB, and the laundry room (complete with washer & dryer). STARLINK added to improve WIFI signal. Sofa bed in the living room can be used to complete a total of sleeping accommodations for six. Spacious kitchen is fully furnished with all the tools needed to cook and serve. Woodburning fireplace with insert. Four stall barn, 2 round pens for horses, and full RV hookups. Rental minimum is 30 days due to County taxes/restrictions on shorter term rentals.
The South Shore of Camanche Lake is only a mile away, and has swimming, boating, and fishing, as well as the staging area for the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail, which follows the river as it rises into the Sierra mountains. The nearby town of Ione, home to many horse trainers, has recently completed an indoor arena, open to the public for a small fee.
Exterior security cameras in use, part-time owner/caretaker may be on premises.
At approximately 500’ elevation, it is well below the snow and frost line. In 2 hours, you can choose to head to Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, Napa Valley, or Lake Tahoe. A short drive east is the historic Sutters Millsite, where the Gold Rush began, and the Jumping Frog festival for Calaveras County, made famous by Mark Twain. Sacramento airport is a little over an hour away. Nearby are the almond orchards for Blue Diamond, and the great wine production at Lodi, Murphys, and Amador County.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Anne Turner

In 1998, I had a job offer in California, and looked for a place for myself and my dogs and horses. It was not my intention, but I met a man and moved to his hometown of Orange, California in 2000. We married in 2002. I didn't want to give up this property, it really speaks to my soul. All these years, I've kept the house leased out. Now, as retirement approaches, I've decided to make some updates and changes to suit my husband and I when we're ready to move. In the meantime, VRBO is a good way to keep the house occupied and continue to bring up to date.
Why they chose this property
Rancho Lo Sierra has the unique quality of a wilderness "feel," without being remotely located. The dramatic lava rock formations provide interest, and the rolling hill terrain provides a lot of privacy. Over half is wooded with Oak and large Pine trees. The seasonal creek is an added feature. This part of Sierra foothills is the very beginning of the Pine trees. At 500' elevation, it's not the High Sierra, hence the name "Low Sierra." It's below the frost line, so it never freezes nor snows. Deer, turkey, squirrels, and the occasional fox frequent the property. Manzanita and Buckeye also round out the vegetation. Check out generous discount for monthly (28 days) rentals.
What makes this property unique
Camanche Lake "South Shore" recreation area is only a mile away. See https://www.lakecamancheresort.com/. There is swimming and places to fish from shore in ponds stocked with fish. In addition, the Mokelumne River Coast to Crest Trail offers miles of trails. Areas of interest abound, San Francisco, Yosemite, and South Lake Tahoe are all within a couple of hour's drive. Sacramento is a little over an hour away. Close by is the Marshall Gold Discovery (Sutter's Mill), Calaveras Big Trees Park, and the wineries in Lodi, Amador County, and Murpheys. Fascinating history of the Gold Rush abound if you wish to explore. The area where Camanche Lake now locates, was a ranch which the widow kept going, and was very successful. Her real life character was made into a TV series, "Big Valley" in the 1960's with Barbara Stanwyck. Although it's location is attributed to Stockton, the nearest city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Valley. ENJOY
