Blue Moon on Bald Head Island is the perfect beach house to feel at one with nature


The panoramic views are nearly impossible to beat:
Look to the left and see the legendary Frying Pan Shoals of Cape Fear.

Look to the right and witness magnificent sunsets and huge ships sailing in and out of port.

Look straight ahead and watch dolphins frolicking and pelicans diving for dinner.

Look up and be captivated by an unbelievable night sky, frequented by shooting stars and sightings of the Milky Way.
Feel the cool ocean breeze. Smell the salt air. Let the sound of the waves lull you to a peaceful night's sleep.


The beach access is directly in front of the house, not down a winding boardwalk or road as is often found with other oceanfront homes. This beautiful stretch of beach is usually only spotted with a few other people and it is common to have it all to yourself.


If you forgot your sunscreen or need a cold drink, it just takes a minute to run back to the house and get whatever you need. There are also plenty of beach chairs, sand toys and boogie boards stored on the porch for your easy access and enjoyment

Why load up a cart to haul everything to the beach? If you are thirsty, it is just a few steps back to the house. If one member of your group needs a break from the sun, he can relax in the swing on the lower porch. Baby needs a nap, but you don’t want to leave the beach, hang out on the upper deck and see the ocean while still in earshot. Rather than having to work your way around others at the popular public accesses, you will often find the beautiful stretch of beach in front of the house all but empty.


From the balcony, you can watch the sun rise with your first cup of coffee and watch it set with a cool evening drink. As one guest wrote, 'Your home is beautiful... you have to be here to believe the unforgettable view!'


With vaulted ceilings and a bright cheery interior, the living and dining area is a great place to hang out with the family at the end of the day. The cabinets are stocked with books for both adults and children, games and plenty of movies. The kitchen has all the equipment to prepare your meals, right down to cookbooks and a spice rack. You can even watch the waves crash on the beach as you make dinner. Prepare breakfast and walk right out to the upper deck to enjoy it along with the amazing ocean view.


Downstairs, both the Master bedroom and Queen guest room lead out to a screened-in porch with a swing, rockers, and a picnic table and they offer beautiful views of the dunes and beach. The Master bedroom has a King bed, large closet, sitting area, television and private bathroom. The 3rd bedroom with twin beds is a favorite with the kids and also comes with a closet filled with toys. A 2nd full bathroom is on this floor.


The house is perfectly designed for a family, couples or a group of adults just looking to get away from it all. We have great pride of ownership and follow a rigorous maintenance routine to keep Blue Moon in a condition that consistently exceeds our guests' expectations. It is our goal to offer an extraordinary vacation experience. We provide a thorough information packet to help you prepare for and enjoy your trip and welcome any and all questions about Blue Moon and Bald Head Island.


Please note: Saturday-Saturday rentals only from June - August. Four-night minimum for holiday weekends. Three-night minimum otherwise. No pets and no smoking - sorry no exceptions.

The perfect house for our young family! Easy access to the beach for the littles. We loved the reverse floor plan for the view from the living area and balcony. Highly recommend Blue Moon! The house was well stocked for our Labor Day weekend. The house was immaculate and the view was perfect! Golf cart looked brand new and was the nicest one we have ever had on the island. The host was wonderful and available anytime we had a question and went above and beyond to make our stay relaxing and perfect!

We found the property clean and well maintained. The location is great with private access to South Beach. The balcony is a perfect spot to watch beautiful beach sunsets and for stargazing on clear nights. The porch and swing are another great outdoor space to enjoy the sound of the waves. The owners are great. They are very communicative and responsive. Highly recommend this gem!

Beautiful, clean home perfect location

Just steps from the beach and perfectly situated half way down on the island… we just LOVED our stay! The owners checked in with us regularly to make sure we had what we needed which was so kind. Incredibly well stocked! Very comfortable rooms with everything my family from ages 3-13 needed. The golf cart was very good and the beach access was just so perfect. Highly recommend and cannot wait to go back!

One week pre-season

We came for one week in mid-May. The sun came out every day and was warm enough to get into the ocean. Very few people on the beach this time of year. The house is very clean and odorless. Kitchen appliances are new and high quality. Beds and furnishings are very comfortable. Golf cart is new. This was our best stay so far on BHI.

Best beach trip

The property is lovely and has been really cared for. It was the perfect size for our family of 2A + 2K. Really comfortable beds too! The location is wonderful with great swimming on the beach, and lots of beach accessories to keep everyone happy. This was the best beach holiday we have had and will surely return! Thanks for hosting us.

Great Escape

This is the perfect place to unwind and let the world melt away. House is well stocked with everything you might need, has its own private walkway to the beach, and the sunsets are amazing. It was really cool to walk the beach and see the turtle nesting sites (very well marked and protected).

Perfect Beach Vacation

Everything about the property and our stay was great. The owner was helpful, a great communicator and made check-in and check-out easy. The walk to the beach is super easy and the beach is sparsely populated even during the peak week of July 4th. The new 6-seat golf cart made transportation quick and efficient. We enjoyed every moment of the vacation in this lovely beach house.

Wonderful setting

We enjoyed the lovely home with a delightful view of the ocean. We clearly saw the Milky Way along with numerous stars. The location on the beach, the beautiful home, the porches, the porch swing, the beach umbrella, beach chairs, bikes, etc… all enriched the wonderful vacation on Bald Head. Thank you to the owners for providing such a beautiful place to rent.

Like the owner John said in the property ad - if you want to be at the beach, why not stay on the beach! The property suited our needs perfectly and has been tastefully updated. The ocean views are amazing and the ease of getting to the beach cannot be beat. The location is convenient and we loved the availability to use membership at both clubs! We will certainly be back!

Exactly what we were looking for!

Our stay at Blue Moon was truly exceptional! We have stayed at a lot of beach houses over the last few years, but this was by far the best experience we've had. The house was clean, well-kept, and had just the space we needed for our family. We had easy access to the beach, our kids enjoyed driving around in the golf cart, and we loved using the guest membership at the BHI Club to access the pool and playing a round of golf! We will be back next year!

Once in a Blue Moon

My family (wife, 2 teenage kids and myself) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Moon and this was our first trip to BHI. The house was clean, well appointed and the decor was just the right amount to let you know you are at a beach house without clubbing you over the head with that fact. The house location was nicely situated on the island and everything was within easy reach using the luxury golf cart that came with the rental (but they aren’t joking about that turn radius). Access to the beach was super convenient using the walkway from the house (back porch to the beach is maybe 1-2 minutes depending on how much stuff you lug with you) John was super communicative and easy to work with. All and all our stay was awesome and everyone had a great time on the island.

Great house

It was a beautiful house and I would strongly recommend renting the home (it was oceanfront, clean and attractive). The one issue that we did have with the house is that the electric cart did not work well (especially when our family of four were in the cart -- our kids are 16 and 21 but we are all thin and fit). The electric cart on multiple occasions did not make the 1.4 mile trip from the house to the Maritime Marke and back. Just be aware of that fact (especially if anyone has heart or ambulatory issues). On three occasions we had to push the cart back (some of it uphill and not so fun). Owner said to let it sit for 15 minutes and try again (no service call for the electric cart was offered) - also that is not how electric carts work. Owner seemed to suggest that we did not know how to charge an electric cart or were not charging it between outings (which we were charging the cart). We have rented on BHI for the last 12 years (thus we are familiar with charging many different types of golf carts for many years and have not had that problem) as well as we own a Tesla (an electric cart). Just be aware as if you rent this house (which I would highly recommend as it is a great house) -- plan to walk everywhere or rent an additional electric cart on the island or you will most likely find yourself stranded (if you are unfamiliar with the island, there are no taxis or ubers). It is a great house and worth the expense of an additional electric cart rental. Hope this information helps and keeps you safe!

Adored our stay at Blue Moon!

Loved our experience at Blue Moon! The house is fantastic and has everything we need and more, including super awesome toys and gear (beach cruisers, boogie boards, shubami tent, etc)! Our family of 4 (8 and 9 year olds) were beyond happy and comfy in the house! We loved the vibe, direct access and view of the beach and sunsets on the balcony! Also loved the location which was central to all our favs (South Beach, East Beach, BHI conservancy, market, etc)! John and Linda are gracious hosts and made things so super easy! Would definitely recommend!! 8 thumbs up!

Amazing stay in a beautiful spot

This house was perfect! We loved coffee on the porch overlooking the ocean, and evenings listening to the waves. Awesome, easy beach access. Very well stocked garage with beach chair, toys, nice bikes, even a Shibumi shade! Awesome location and great communication with the host. Only thing to be aware of (and I was) is there is only one golf cart which sometimes made logistics a bit tricky with 4 adults. Would happily stay here again!!

Your Own Little Slice of Heaven

House is well maintained, very clean, and well equipped - just pack your clothes/food and everything else you could possibly need is already in the house. You can easily access the beach via the walkways, enjoy the views/sounds from the observation deck, play games, or do absolutely nothing in the most wonderful way. The beach almost feels like a private beach - you have all the beach you could possibly need to yourself! Property owner was super responsive and happy to help make this the most stress-free environment possible. It really does feel like your own little slice of heaven!

The location and facility was ideal for a nice stay on the island. The golf cart was a great convenience for getting-around. The upper deck was perfect for a beautiful view of the ocean.
