Beautiful setting and spacious, comfortable accommodation.

We had a fantastic week in your beautiful property. The views from the house were stunning, and it was ideally located for many lovely walks from the doorstep. It was clean, very well equipped, comfortable and spacious. We would love to return sometime.

Beautiful cottage, superb location

The cottage is lovely and spacious. It is very well equipped with lovely beds and bedding, well kitted out kitchen and great bathrooms. It is situated in a great location and has a glorious balcony to sit and enjoy the spectacular views. Good parking for 3 vehicles, although rather steep access to the rear where the parking is situated. Reasonably clean, although could have been better given the high quality of the property. Would definitely visit again.

Great visit to the lakes

Fir Garth is a large, nicely decorated and well kept property in a great location for us, as a group of photographers. We had a wonderful stay. The house was a little cold on arrival and we had problems with the heating in some of the rooms but Hannah was very helpful and sorted the heating for us promptly.

Fantastic location

We had a lovely family Christmas at Fir Garth. The house was a great size for 10/12 . The location of this property is perfect. It's so peaceful with lovely views. There is a great selection of walks from the doorstep. It's also great to be within 5 minutes drive of a town. After visiting Ambleside or Windermere its lovely to return to a peaceful location and leave the crowds behind. Everything we needed to cater for family meals was available.

Stunning

This is a really beautiful cottage refurbished to a very high standard and extremely well equipped with good quality bedding and towels. The unbroken views of Langdale Pike are stunning. The wood burner added extra cosines during a stay in April. Would love a return visit.

Fabulous house, amazing views, glorious weather.

Family birthday celebration holiday. 8 adults 1 two yr old and 3 nine month old babies. The house was a perfect venue, and equipped with everything we needed, and easily accommodated the whole family. Just a few moments from miles of footpaths. The swimming pool in the leisure centre, was a real treat. The views of Langdale pikes were just stunning.

Fantastic accommodation despite the changeable weather

Party of eight to visit the Lakes at short notice. Fantastic accommodation with room for all. Coffee machine takes whole beans, and converts them into coffee! No need for instant. Spent Saturday evening sitting out on veranda watching sun go down behind the Langdale’s. Planning our return when we can all get together again.

Amazing views

Beautiful cottage inside and out. Lovely, calming decor. We relaxed every evening and even had the rare chance to sit on the decking. It is well stocked with everything you can possibly need. The views are amazing and walks are easily reached from the cottage. The local shop stocks everything you need and the local pub, Wainwrights serves their own smoked ribs, pulled pork and other delicious food. Hannah kept in touch with me and the instructions she gave to access the cottage were easy to follow and accurate. The only problem was, we wanted to stay there longer. Thank you Hannah.

Spacious, well-equipped, stunning views

We had a fabulous holiday staying here. The location is great, the views from the balcony are breathtaking and the house is wonderful. We stayed with another family and the facilities are brilliant for this. Separate luxury en-suite facilities for 4 out of the 5 bedrooms, plus an extra bathroom with roll-top bath, meant that we were never waiting to get a shower in the morning! For sharing families this was perfect. The living room is beautiful with high ceilings and the photos don't really do it justice. The appliances in the kitchen were great, including a coffee machine for a freshly ground 'bean to cup' morning caffeine fix! There was everything we needed in the kitchen and we were able to easily cook many meals, not missing a single utensil. The 'snug' downstairs was great and also meant the children had some space to themselves to play in and watch tv or dvds. We hope to return here; having lived in the Lakes before, I don't think you can get a better location for proximity to amenities, whilst still feeling like you are truly escaping and enjoying the full Lake Dustrict experience. Thank you to Hannah who has been great throughout the whole booking process, right down to returning a cable we left in the house by mistake!

A wonderful winter break in a stunning location

When we first walked into Fir View the spaciousness of the lounge/kitchen/diner was the first thing that hit us. The beautiful view from the picture window across the valley was breathtaking. We quickly had the log fire up and running throwing out a huge amount of heat and sat drinking wine, absorbing that view. The kitchen area is extremely well equipped and served by 2 Neff identical ovens, supported by a Neff combination microwave oven. There is also a Neff coffee maker but we didn't make use of this. There is abundant refrigeration and an excellent supply of crockery, utensils and glasses etc too. The bedrooms all have high grade, comfortable beds with extremely warm duvets and 2 pillows per person. There is more than adequate storage for all your clothing. The family bathroom and en suites are fitted and decorated to an extremely high standard and boasting modern fittings. They are well lit and lovely and warm. The whole house is beautifully comfy and warm and it has an abundant supply of very hot water. The place was immaculately clean too. We didn't make use of the Langdale Hotel facilities sadly but it's just a short distance away. The local shop is also just a strole away too and Waniwrights just a few more steps further along the road. Hannah supplied torches for the dark walk at night should you wish to venture out in the evening. Being winter when we visited, we weren't able to make use of the outdoor facilities but I can well imagine having lovely barbecues, sat around the circular outdoor table in the rear garden. I have already verbally recommended this property to my family and friends and wouldn't hesitate to visit again in the future. It's a home from home.

Beautiful cottage, stunning view of Langdale peaks

I booked this cottage for 11 people as a surprise weekend for my partner with all her friends and was very impressed. The house provided a perfect location for sociable weekend away with all our friends - the big open plan Kitchen/Diner/Living area was very spacious and was ideal for playing games and hosting a big group roast dinner around the authentic wooden dining table. Also, the kitchen was very well thought out and had the essential utensils needed to cook meals for 11 people (2 oven / grills was very handy indeed). Furthermore, the balcony leading out from the living area is a perfect space for enjoying a cuppa in the morning overlooking the stunning view down the valley. Would love to visit the cottage in the summer where late evening drinks could be enjoyed in this area! The bedrooms were absolutely stunning! Each one was uniquely decorated with a different theme in each. 4/5 bedrooms had amazing en-suites (better than a 5* hotel) with the 5th bedroom being directly opposite a beautiful bathroom with a roll top bath (Nice after long walk on the fells). The location was ideal, only 5 minute walk in to the village where there is a very well stocked convenience store. 15 minute walk and your in the beautiful village of Elterwater where you will find one of my favorite pubs the Britannia Inn. If you enjoy a more challenging walk there are some really nice hikes over the ridge in to the attractive village of Grasmere (1-2 hours) which are rewarded with some wonderful views at the top of the peaks. Overall, everyone who stayed at the cottage thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Fir Garth and we will all be booking again next year. For large groups of friends or family I would highly recommend this cottage for a fun and enjoyable stay in the Lakes.

Lovely

We stayed for three nights in March to celebrate a 60th birthday. There were 6 adults and four children and the house was perfect. It never felt crowded, there was space for everyone and the children loved the freedom of upstairs and downstairs and the big open plan kitchen. Every detail has been considered even down to a wide selection of storage tubs in the kitchen, torches to walk along to the pub and so on. We really couldn't have asked for a more comfortable accommodation. Would have no hesitation in recommending this house to anyone considering booking.

New Year's Eve in the Lakes

Due to the recent floods in Grasmere, our annual New Year break had to be relocated at very short notice with the correct accommodation of 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms to cater for 5 married couples. Fir Garth fitted the bill perfectly. The house is well appointed with everything any reasonable person would require. It was warm and comfortable. The weather was unkind and the TV system was affected but that did not spoil our week. The owner had made us aware of problem so it wasn't an issue for us. We managed to get 5 cars up to the house but it was tight. There is parking near to the back of the house approximately 100 yards away via two gates which have to be kept closed due to sheep. The local store was used daily and was well stocked and the Langdale Hotel and Wainwrights pub are worth visiting. The owners were kind enough to provide discount vouchers for use at the Langdale. We managed a few walks and also a bus ride into Ambleside, the bus service being quite useful and reliable. All but two of our group had Senior bus passes! The only issue raised by the ladies in our group was the lack of a mirror in each of the bedrooms for makeup and hair purposes. I am male so will not make further comment on that. Hannah, the owner, was very helpful and approachable and we got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble if she was asked.Any person or group opting to use Fir Garth will not be disappointed and will enjoy a top class property in a stunning setting.

Perfect holiday home in a wonderful location

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at this very warm and comfortable cottage. The property is located in Chapel Stile which has a brilliant local shop stocking everything you need (including sledges!) and is near to Wainwrights Inn! It is a 5 minute drive to the centre of Ambleside with all its facilities yet perfectly positioned for walking. The driveway up to the cottage from the road is a quite steep but there is ample parking at the top of the hill for all the cars or alternatively the cottage is accessible from the road leading out of the village. The views from the cottage were beautiful, especially with the snow on the high fells. Everything about the cottage was perfect and it is furnished to an excellent standard throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and full of mod cons (some of which took a bit of getting used to) and the living space is a great social place for drinks, food and even a bit of dancing in our case! Every bedroom is spacious, has its own en suite bathroom and each is furnished and decorated in its own individual style. The attention to detail is outstanding. As a family with two young children we thoroughly enjoyed the use of the spa/ swimming pool facilities at the Langdale. An excellent idea for relaxing and spending time on a damp cold day! We had an extra treat in the form of snow, the kids loved the sledging! To warm up we had a very short drive from the cottage and enjoyed a lovely pub lunch at the Britannia Inn at Elterwater. Finally, a big thank you for putting up the Christmas decorations for us, this holiday was a great start to Christmas! The owner, Hannah, was lovely and helpful to deal with. I would highly recommend this property to friends and would love to come back and stay again!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi, my name is Hannah, I live in the Ribble Valley with my husband and 3 kids. I enjoy running, cycling and walking in the great outdoors and one of my favourite places is the Lake District!

Why they chose this property

The Lake District is our favourite place and when we stepped out on to the balcony at this property the views took our breath away (even if the balcony was falling down at the time!) This persuaded us to embark on the renovation of the house to what it is today.

What makes this property unique

Uninterrupted views down the Langdale valley from every room in the house and in particular from the large patio windows and balcony in the living room.
The house has a large open plan living room/kitchen/dining room which means it is great for getting together with friends and family.
