A beautiful, well-designed house that takes full advantage of its choice location on the water. Views of the Adriatic and the Pelješac peninsula beckon from all of the bedrooms, the patios on the main floor and lower loggia, and the gazebo closer to the water. The gorgeous medieval city of Korcula, with its (former) cathedral, its walls and towers, and its clever fish-skeleton layout, is a close drive or bicycle ride away, as are elevated inland villages, such as Žrnovo. We hiked some of the island's many rocky trails, enjoyed some restaurants and bakeries (in March, the off-season, most businesses were closed), and read books from the owner's extensive library of novels and histories. Clean, with new wiring and wifi, the house is perfect for a stay on this remarkable island. I don't know why Marco Polo ever left Korcula; we certainly didn't want to!
