Beachfront holiday house in Valtos, Uig with stunning views.
Spacious holiday house with stunning views on the beautiful Valtos Peninsula. Sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove, 2 bathrooms, conservatory. 1 minute walk to beach and pier, with many other beautiful beaches within easy reach. Family and pet friendly, the house is perfect for bird watchers, nature lovers, beachcombers, sandcastle builders, kayakers and hardy swimmers!
Liona-Tuim is a much loved holiday home that has been in our family for over 40 years. Sitting just above the beach in the village of Valtos, the house provides the perfect base for exploring the beautiful area of Uig with its huge white sandy beaches, imposing mountains, and varied wildlife, as well as for further adventures such as boat trips to the islands or visits to the Standing Stones at Callanish, the Iron Age broch at Carloway or the Black House village at Gearrannan.
The house is comfortable and well equipped. Downstairs there is a cosy kitchen heated by an Everhot stove with an induction hob and additional microwave, and including a fridge, dishwasher and bread maker.
The sitting room has a wood burning stove, TV and DVD player together with a selection of games, puzzles and books for relaxing after a hard day's exploration.
The downstairs bedroom has bunkbeds. Free wifi is provided but we recommend you use it for checking the weather forecast rather than catching up with work!
A conservatory which catches the evening sun, perfect for a cup of tea or something stronger while you read a book or play a game.
A downstairs shower room allows for post-beach clean ups, and a bright and spacious studio is perfect for playing games. The workshop has room for boots and coats and houses the washing machines, tumble dryer and freezer.
Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin) and a bathroom including a bath and power shower. Please note linen and towels are not provided.
2 well-behaved dogs allowed (NB We ask that dogs be kept in the studio or conservatory. Dogs are not allowed upstairs).
The house is approximately 5 miles from the well-stocked local community shop, which includes a post-office and petrol station. The town of Stornoway is a 45 minute drive away, and from here supermarket deliveries can be arranged.

Cosy comfy house in fantastic location, which we know well. Host was very prompt in communicating and made us feel very welcome.House had everything you need and a bit more. Thank you.
Anyone wanting to visit Isle of Lewis then this is the place to stay.
Beautiful beaches right on your doorstep.
The property is well equipped and very comfortable with views of the sea through most windows.
A well stored shop 3 miles up the road. Just beautiful.
This is a homely warm and welcoming House - we love staying here - there is plenty of space and the best equipped kitchen with a beautiful view over the bay - you could sit watching gannets lunging all day!
Serenaded in the morning by a blackbird with a corncrake accompaniment - brilliant. Lots to do and explore.
A great location and a great house. Was lovely to sit in the kitchen with the oven and the view. Conservatory was a lovely sun trap and the living room was cosy with the fire.
Needed the plug-in heaters at times.
Host were super helpful too. We all loved it and would definitely return.
Lovely comfortable house with everything you need. Fantastic location right on the beach. Remote but just a short drive to a shop with everything you need. Just heaven. Dogs not allowed in the main house so be aware they need to stay in the conservatory/dining room extension. Kate is a brilliant host and was very helpful rearranging our trip several times during covid! Highly recommend.

Lovely homely property with fabulous beach
The only negative was not being informed on the restriction of dogs staying at the property until full amount of money paid. This should be made clear on the website as it could have an impact of choice of renting the property and prevent any ambiguity
Loved the proximity of this lovely quiet sheltered beach - our group spent every morning and evening sitting, reading or running on the rocks - absorbing the calm and the little community. Was just a joy, bracketing driving around the stunning rugged atlantic coast and dramatic landscapes to the south. House felt like home within 15 mins. Would go again in a flash.
A perfect location to base a Lewis/Harris holiday. The sea, islands and beach view from the house was sensational, wonderful for a scramble or swim and the boys circumnavigated and investigated the big island in their kayaks - their highlight for the week. We all relished the peacefulness for reading and there is such a substantial library of books throughout the house, we needn't have brought our own. The kitchen was so well equipped and I fell in love cooking on the agar that I became absorbed cooking delicious meals from scratch. The local shop (short drive away) was extremely well-stocked with groceries and also offered a range of quirky, tasteful gifts for sale too. We loved our trips out in the car, all over the island but nice to come back to a cosy comfortable house. We could have stayed on ...
A homely, warm and friendly house - we loved staying there. Plenty of space and very well equipped.
The area is fabulous - lots of walks and beaches and you can watch it all going on from the Windows if you want! Thank you for a truly delightful stay.
Loved staying at Bhaltos. The views from the house were fantastic and the house itself was just like a home from home....... everything you could possibly need including cling film for wrapping sandwiches for days out! Couldn’t fault it ......... loved every minute

We came in September and arrived on a beautiful day. We brought kayaks and it is very easy to carry them to the beach from the house - just a minute's walk. The location is stunning with many beaches and great scenery. The house is nice and cosy with covenient areas for sea equipment. We would really recommend this house for a get away from it all holiday
Excellent property, one of the best we've stayed at.
Nice quiet location, and ideal for walking to 4 beaches with our dogs. The house itself is amazing, lots of history in the house to look at and it made is feel at home immediately.

Fabulous position with amazing beach
If you're expecting a pristine fully contemoprary holiday home, then this isn't for you. It is what it is, a much-loved cosy family home that has been outgrown and has become a holiday home. It has character in spades, from the children's heights marked on the kitchen door frame to the plethora of books for all ages. It is quirky and cosy and loveable. The fantastic beach is but yards away. We loved it so much. And Bhaltos is fabulous, typical Western Lewis. Highly recommended.

Homely base to explore the island
The property is comfortable, well appointed and located within a 1 minute walk to a beautiful and almost always deserted beach. There are two other stunning beaches within walking distance and the relatively close proximity to the scallop shack was a much enjoyed bonus.

Comfortable family house, great location, right on the beach.
Our week long stay at this lovely comfortable house combined with glorious weather, will be with us for a long time. The location, about 45 minutes from Stornoway is breathtaking, and the house is a stone's throw from Valtos beach. The longer Riof beach is a 10 minute walk over the hill. The house is warm, and the kitchen cosy with a Raeburn providing plenty of very hot water, and unlimited hilarity. If you are not used to cooking on a range it will take some getting used to. Also a rather idiosyncrativ electric hob. Plenty room for us all to have quiet time, and for my sister's family of 4 (who were staying in the neighbouring hamlet Cnip) to join us for evening meals.
A great place to get away from it all, and to enjoy the beauty and peace of the Hebrides.
And I saw a Corncrake!

Why they chose this property
Our parents bought Liona-Tuim when we were tiny children and all our childhood summers were spent in the house, playing on Valtos beach, sailing and kayaking around islands and catching fish for supper. After retirement our parents moved to the island full time, and spent 15 years living in Valtos and making Liona-Tuim the comfortable family home it has become. Over the years we have brought our own children to Liona-Tuim every summer and watched them discovering the magic of a holiday in the Scottish islands, as we did ourselves all those years ago! When our parents moved back to the mainland at the end of last year we became the proud new owners of Liona-Tuim, and are looking forward to many more years of adventures in Valtos.
