Just ten minutes drive from the centre of Invercargill, our crib is a cosy 1930’s cottage with beachside charm, part of a small settlement nestled in the sandhills of Oreti Beach on Foveaux Strait. The simple sprit of the NZ bach is here. Disconnect from all your electronic media ties and relax properly here! City convenience is close, yet the atmosphere is quiet and isolated. A view of bushy Stewart island and sandhills graces the kitchen and the sound of the surf will whoosh you off to sleep at night.
Our bach is a spot where you can have an uncomplicated summer holiday, a decent digital detox and get away from it all. No TV, no telephone, no internet 😊. A short walk through the sand hills takes you right on to the beach, broadening to a huge expanse of sand at low tide, stretching for miles around to Riverton. Great to mountain bike, just walk, watch the seabirds and beachcomb. The surf is enjoyed by surfers, swimmers, paddlers, kite boarders and windsurfers. Otatara cafes and bars (Ziffs and The Cabbage Tree) are handy, as is Otatara Golf Course and Otatara bush walks / estuary walks. The Bluff Oyster festival in May offers great food and music, or try the Burt Munro Challenge (summer) for unique motorbike races of all kinds . If you're in travel mode, the Coronet Peak and Remarkables skifields, lakes, adventure activities and stunning scenery of Fiordland National Park, Te Anau and Queenstown are only 2 hours drive away, flights to beautiful Rakiura / Stewart Island leave from the local airport and you are right on the "Southern Scenic Route" if touring the lovely South Coast and Catlins. Less energetically, you might just prefer to watch the sun set into the ocean from the plank seat on the sandhill or relax by the woodburner with an indulgent drink and a good book!

Great place very close to the beach. Good selection of books, very nicely decorated, great kitchen with all necessary equipment, cosy log burner. Excellent place to relax. Definitely recommend.

Rachel is a great guest, a good communicator, and left our place absolutely neat and tidy. I would definitley rent to her again!
We spent two nights at this Oreti Beach property. It was perfect for our requirements, comfortable and cosy. The proximity to the majestic Oreti Beach is a major attraction, and the property is also handy for Invercargill and the airport.
Love this wee crib!!! We actually enjoyed that there was no cell service; just us enjoying the fire in the evening. We will definetly book this place again on our future travels.
We stayed 4 nights and thought this Bach was great. It has the basics we needed and was very comfortable. The Night Sky is amazing and the Beach is so close. After 4 hard days at the Field days it was a nice quiet retreat.
Young Families would love this place too.
Thanks for sharing it.
Lovely bach not far from the beach and the fire was great . However there is no phone reception or internet so that was a huge problem for me as i run a business and couldnt keep in touch with my team ..
Wonderful weekend at Oreti beach, cute batch, will definitely return..

Pure bliss!
The cottage is quiet, homely, comfortable, quirky, and the kitchen really well equipped. Washing machine is one bonus, and the bathtub another.. but the best is proximity to the widest beach in NZ! We drove down Dunns Road onto the beach to experience the spectacular sunsets. Patchy mobile signal and absence of TV meant our family could connect more with each other than with social media.
Beautiful, relaxing and peaceful. I great place to unwind.
Thank you Jane for a wonderfully holiday.
We had the most amazing time here. So quiet and peaceful. All additions you could hope for and lovely and comfy. Beach is so close and the garden is beautiful.
We would love to come back and will highly recommend to our friends.

Cool house and a great spot!
Thanks Jane for having us over easter. The house was fantastic and the location superb to both chill out and also explore the south. The fireplace was great and heated the whole house up in no time!

Private, quiet, close to beach and Invercargill.
Private, quiet, close to beach and Invercargill. Quirky wee crib. Was cold outside on the first night but inside the crib was warm and the fire made it toasty.
