The entire house is accessible.

I`m committed to doing whatever I can to make your stay the best it can be. I absolutely love this city and would be delighted to share with you some of my favorite restaurants, museums, parks or attractions. I respect your privacy and will communicate as little or as much as you wish.

Set on a hillside above the borough of Etna, the immediate residential neighborhood is very quiet and safe. And this house sits at the very top of that hill, offering you and your group a little extra privacy.

You`ll find the essential conveniences like gas, snacks, ice all within a mile of the house. And the main street through Etna (Butler St.) has some excellent small restaurants and places to grab a drink.

Please note that the driveway is narrow, but once you get to the top, the space opens up into an inviting parking area and outdoor space!

I`m available to help make your stay the best it can be, but the level of communication is entirely up to you. It is always my pleasure to make suggestions on where to go and what to do - from museums to my favorite walkable streets.

You will also receive a guidebook three days before check-in with recommendations and instructions for the appliances in the home.

An incredible stay!

We came out to Pittsburgh from Lancaster to attend the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State wrestling Tournament. We booked this home last minute when our previous vrbo notified us of a double booking just a few days before our trip. Andrew was super accommodating to our situation, and made sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed for our stay. The home was very clean, and welcoming. Andrew answered all of our questions and was extremely prompt in all of his responses. 10/10 recommend this home, we enjoyed the hot tub and the privateness of the home while loving its central location to all of Pittsburgh’s main attractions. If you need a place to grab dinner while staying here we also highly recommend Alioto’s Sports Bar, only a 2 min drive from the house, they had wonderful food and atmosphere at reasonable prices. Thank you Andrew, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at any of your properties in the future!

Hidden Gem

We spent a weekend here with our three kids to celebrate a birthday. After looking all over for a cabin in the woods that would allow dogs and had a hot tub, but struck out. Andrew's place was 15 minutes from our home, which obviously cut out the drive time component of a weekend getaway, but made for a much easier getaway and allowed for it to be much less of a production to get three kids and a dog and all of our stuff to the destination. We were really looking forward to enjoying all of the amenities offered at the house, and our expectations were exceeded. The house truly is hidden right smack dab in the middle of a densely residential section of Etna. The stone driveway winds up to the top of the hill where the house sits, and it transports you to a completely different place. The outdoor areas are truly impressive. The deck and hot tub area overlooks the steep hillside covered in trees. A hiking path winds down that hillside to what seems to be a public hiking path, though it was not heavily used while we were there, save for a few friendly neighbors walking their dogs. We didn't follow the path to the end, so not sure how far it goes or where it ends up. The house is a great example of how cool Pittsburgh can be. You feel like you're in the mountains, but you are only 10 minutes from being downtown. The house itself is well appointed with the things one would typically expect in a vacation rental. Andrew also had Pittsburgh themed items available throughout the house, including books, chocolates from Sarris, beer from East End Brewing, and even a cookbook. The main kitchen area does not have an oven, which is strange, but there is one in the laundry room/kitchenette available. That room made for a great transition room from being in the hot tub. We had a minor home maintenance issue while there, that Andrew responded to quickly, and refunded a portion of our fee because of. Things don't always go perfectly, and that's just a fact of life, but Andrew's response and resolution was perfect, and we are thankful for that. We didn't want to leave when it was time to check out, and will definitely keep this house in mind for the future. P.S. If you find yourself in need of some delicious takeout sandwiches and soups, Duncan Street Sandwich Shop in Millvale is phenomenal.

Beautiful Home

We were visiting Pittsburgh to take in the baseball game and visit family. This house is exactly as advertised. It’s beautiful in every way. Don’t be put off be the driveway. It was very doable, even in a KIA Telluride and a Chevy Tahoe. The host provided all the amenities and more. It was all very thoughtful. We really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely stay here again when we are back in the area.

This was a wonderful place to stay. The house was very nice, clean and had everything we needed. The only thing I would say is the driveway is a little tricky but that didn’t matter to us! Nice views and very relaxing and quiet. The owner, Andrew, was very nice and responded asap anytime I had a question or concern. Will stay with them again.

About the host

Hosted by Andrew

Host profile image
I'm Andrew, and I cannot express to you enough how happy I am to be back in my hometown of Pittsburgh. After growing up in the area's declining steel industry, and moving to New England for about 9 years, I'm finally back to the only city that ever felt like home.

I started Steel River Ventures as a way to embrace the city I love when I moved back home to Pittsburgh in 2017. Now I want to share my homes and my city with our guests! I've been fortunate enough to grow over the years along with Pittsburgh and watch it transform. With every day that passes, I discover something else about this city that I love and would be happy to share that with you.

I am more than happy to be as active a host as you'd like. By default, you as a guest will have your privacy, but I'm always available to meet and share my thoughts on the area with you. Be warned though, I love Pittsburgh and that will come through in our conversations!

My primary income is working in vocational learning technology, but I am a car guy at heart. Whenever my schedule allows, I try to get to local track events at roadcourses, auto-cross or hillclimb venues. I enjoy teaching performance driving, car control and driver safety as well. I also try to read a little (usually non-fiction), visit the gym as often as possible, and spend time with family and friends.

Why they chose this property

It really is such a unique experience to be so close to everything Pittsburgh has to offer, but still feel like you're off deep in the woods.

What makes this property unique

With so many places to work from outside, I wish it was summer all year round. You can head to the lower parts of the property to relax and get some time alone as well.
