Just a few kilometres from Slope Point, the southernmost point of the South Island, nestled in the Catlins lie the magical Curio and Porpoise Bays. A small detour from the Southern Scenic Route guides you to a slice of paradise. The area is rich with wildlife, scenic beauty and heritage. Points of interest include a Jurassic Petrified forest, bush walks, swimming, surfing, kayaking and endless Southern Ocean views. The Waikawa Museum highlights the whaling, logging and pioneering heritage of this fertile region. Hector’s Dolphin visit annually from October through to March (occasionally April). You will be able to watch them teach their young to surf the waves just in front of CLOUD9. Walk down the road to the Petrified Forest at the end of the day to watch the Yellow-eyed penguins return onto the rock shelf from a day of fishing to preen and make their way into the flax to feed their hidden hungry chicks.
Take the road less travelled, settle in with your family in one of the cosiest homes in one of the most beautiful locations on the planet. CLOUD9 is modest, inviting, secure and has fantastic views of the pristine coastline – a photographer’s dream. The beds and linen are luxurious and wonderfully comfortable. Your drinking water comes from the sky, there’s none tastier. It's impossible to communicate all of this magic with the written word. Your memories will be priceless.
Invercargill (the gateway to Stewart Island) and Bluff are one hour further West, down the track. Invercargill offers a little of everything anyone could ever want. Dunedin lies three hours to the North. It is a thriving City with the world class University of Otago and a rich cultural heritage. A perfect Easter Weekend. The views are amazing. The home had everything we needed. The fire was lovely on the cold evenings. Waking in the morning to spectacular views was a dream. Watching the dolphins play in the waves was such a privilege. Will definitely stay again. Thankyou for having us & allowing our doggos also. Easy walk to dog friendly part of the beach
Host was responsive when needed but not intrusive, the views and the whole area are out of this world! Watching dolphins surf from the comfort of the living room was one of the most incredible experiences one could have!
It was a simple and easy stay, we loved the quiet beach, and space. Kitchen had everything needed, didn't get to see, but got to hear the penguins anyway!
We enjoyed the gorgeous view, saw 3 surfing dolphins, a sealion swimming by, a yellow-eyed penguin at the close-by petrified forest beach, and heard Little Blue Penguins in the night. It was absolutely magical and hard to say good-bye!
We enjoyed every minute of out stay even though the weather was rough. The huge clear doors and windows enabled us to watch the waves and tides try to “tame” the elements. It was an ever changing scene.

Thank you for staying! We would be happy to have you back again!
Possibly the best place we stayed in during our time in NZ, the peace and quiet and closeness to the beach, not to mention seeing dophins and hearing penguins, meant that we felt we had found a little piece of heaven.
Such a wonderful location. Even with bad weather we could sit inside and watch the waves. We had a wonderful stay and will no doubt go back when we can.
