Located on Durie Vale Road, a unique sheltered microclimate with peaceful park-like surroundings, country views, and abundant birdlife is all within easy walking distance of the river, town, and main attractions.

Enjoy breakfast with the birds or evening barbeques on the sunny north-facing balcony or decks.

Having undergone a complete makeover both inside and out this warm, cosy cottage features a new kitchen and bathroom, retaining the original gloriously deep bathtub, just perfect for lengthy soaks.

Tastefully decorated with new carpet, modern furniture, electronics, appliances, and contemporary decor. Original works of art from some of Wanganui's finest artists are on display.

Treat yourself to a range of complimentary eco-friendly toiletries, organic teas, hot chocolate, and coffees, including from an Nespresso machine.

Entertain yourself with SKY TV on the large-screen TV, watch a DVD or listen to your favourite music on the entertainment system with ipod doc. Ultra-fast fibre broadband WIFI.

Retire into luxurious beds featuring luxury linens, electric blankets, and soft mattress underlays.

Infants catered for with a complimentary porta-cot, high chair, and stroller/pram available upon request. Fully fenced front and back sections with ample room for outside play. A children's playground is within easy walking distance along the Vale and a fully stocked toy and game cupboard will keep children amused for hours. Depending on the season, fruits, herbs, and vegetables may be collected from the gardens for use during your stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was as advertised. The walk from the street to the house was not a problem at all. The home was equipped with everything and more than one may need in a home from home. We enjoyed in particular the outdoor area - the 2 decks. It is surrounded by lots of trees with many birds and at night one can spot the stars in the sky.

Durievale Retreat is a great place to stay when in Whanganui. It's just as described, within walking distance of town, and just a 10 or 15-minute drive to the beach. And the deck out back is perfect!

We had a great stay, clean, tidy, really comfy beds, great deck for sitting with a drink listening to the birds. An easy walk down to town (hill not too bad on the way back) but the advantage being it was an incredibly quiet and peaceful spot. Owner was lovely, check in and out really easy. Whanganui is a wonderful city and our stay here was great. The house was clean and well equipped and in a great location. It was easy to walk into town and see the sights. My only regret is that we weren’t able to stay longer!
