Great host, great location

We had a great stay, Cecil is a great host and she runs a fantastic property. I highly recommend a trip out to Akitio and the Marainanga Station.

Fantastic

Great property with plenty of space for large groups. Even if the weather isn't too good, the fireplace and various heaters do an excellent job of keeping both the common areas and the numerous rooms comfortable. Don't let the long drive out to Akitio put you off, this is a worthwhile destination.

Amazing house in an awesome location.

The place was perfect for our catch up with our large group. Communication with Cec was easy and friendly. The fire kept us all toasty warm and the big kitchen made it easy to cater for the masses. The huge outdoor table was our favourite hang out spot, looking over the river. Thanks for having us.

A very special place

The property is fantastic and was so well setup for a large group. Beautiful scenery and good time was had by all. Cecil was brilliant and helped us with a few things during our stay. 5 stars all the way.

Very nice and clean. Well suited for a big family holiday. Owners are very friendly.

Thom Whanau Reunion

Warm & generous hosts. Beautiful set-up at the Shearer's quarters with everything you could need. Love the layout, indoor-outdoor. A perfect setting for our family to gather, recall & reminisce about our history with Marainanga & Akitio. We had a fabulous time. Thanks so much Cec & Matt.

Great big group getaway stay

Ample room for everyone to stay, and two lounges makes it so much more pleasant to easily separate from the kids. Though the fireplace was the prime location for all of us. A well equipped kitchen and a good bbq helped keep us well fed. A great location to explore the beach. The massive dunes a highlight for young and old. Well worth the drive out to the coast to see the sea, the moon and stars, the landscape and beauty of the rolling countryside. We must come back in summer for the full sea and surf experience. Our only disappointment was for our daughter who wanted to dog-nap a puppy to come home with us. Sooo cute.

Exceptionally private and quiet, well equipped and tonnes of space

Our family of five loved the space and tranquility. It is very private and relaxing. In the country yet 2 mins to a beach. The owners were magnificent. Closeby but not intrusive in any way. While great for a single family for a total getaway this would be great place for a large gathering as it sleeps 18. A bit of a drive to get there but worth it. Thank you for letting us share this place.
