Fantastic experience staying at Clendon house
My family and I had a wonderful experience staying at Clendon house. We were excited to discover the history of the property and the hosts (James and Sue) were excellent at giving the history of the area.
We had a wonderful stay, launching the boat from the property to explore the BoI.
The house was immaculate and was equipped with everything we required for a comfortable stay.
This place is by far the best experience we have had through either Bookabach or Airbnb. I thoroughly recommend the property to my friends and family - and now the general public
A wonderful place for a family
An amazing house that was suited for a family get together. Well stocked with every kind of utensil you need and board games and lego for kids.
We loved staying here.
An amazing place to stay
A beautiful old villa in an incredible location. Fantastic hosts :)
Heritage and hospitality
Great spot with very hospitable hosts
The perfect location to come together with family and friends. The view from the deck is absolutely fantastic. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything you need. Sue and James were perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful. We will definately be back again. A true piece of heaven!!
Beautiful and peaceful
Very well equipped historical home with wonderful view from deck. Beautiful grounds, well maintained by helpful owners who live on site. Also comfortable studio accommodation making it a memorable family reunion and relaxing holiday.
Clendon Lodge is located at Manawaora which is about half way between Russell and Rawhiti and can be accessed by a rural-coastal scenic route (visit Helena Bay Gallery and Cafe) or by state highways and the Opua-Okiato car ferry. A stop at the famous Hunderwasser Toilets and Railway at Kawakawa are worth stopping for.
Clendon Lodge Homestead in Clendon Cove which is part of Manawaora Bay is one of the oldest houses in NZ and was built by Englishman James Clendon in 1839-40.
The recommended routes are all tar sealed. There is a large well serviced marina at Opua. The nearest swimming beach is a few minutes walk away at Jills Bay next to Jacks Bay. Its just a few km to a Kauri forest. There is all tide boat launching at Te Uenga about 5km away.
Recommended nearby beaches include Oke Bay and Elliot Bay (surfing).
