Hosted a family gathering and birthday event here. Worked perfectly for our needs. The location, home with everything possibly needed (and more)was all there. A very enjoyable stay. Boat ramp was perfect for our little boat to be launched. Sue and James are exemplary hosts.
We had a great stay at this property. Sue and James were really helpful with their local advice. Good sized property, perfect for groups. Had everything we needed.
Such a beautiful spot steeped in so much history. The house is immaculate and every possible need taken care of. The boat launch is superb and was such a pleasure. Sue and James were so wonderful! Will certainly visit again!
Thanks so much, Sue and James, for your perfect hideaway retreat. Everything was excellent: from the cleanliness and well-appointed house, with luxury linen and everything necessary to cook a gorgeous meal.
Beautiful setting with a great range of activities for children and adults alike. Accommodation was really well appointed, such a bonus not to have to worry about towels and sheets. Hosts James and Sue are fantastic.
More than a just a bach - a truly wonderful experience!
Sue and James are delightful hosts who make you feel so welcome from the minute you arrive. Clendon House provides a unique historical stay in a truly beautiful location. This provided a brilliant opportunity to experience the winterless north and the endless outdoor activities and stunning islands nearby. Thank you for helping our family make so many wonderful memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
Love, love, loved it! It was the best antidote to a stressful start to the year. All 5 of us slept like logs in super comfy beds. Relaxing, Idyllic. Wish we were still there!
Absolutely stunning spot for a little mid-winter getaway. We had fun using the kayaks at high tide and the fire pit was lovely on the cold nights for the kids to roast marshmallows. James and Sue were lovely hosts! We all had a ball and would love to come back again in the future! We comfortably slept 4 x adults and 4 x little boys in the homestead. Lovely new kitchen with everything you could possibly need.
We had two great days at Sue and James beautiful homestead. Even though we had 130mm of rain at the second night we were still able to squeeze in a kayak paddle in the cove and the nearby Whangamumu walk. The rest of the stay we enjoyed the beautiful homestead, cooked in the well equipped kitchen, watched a movie on Netflix and had the best of times...
The only downside was the cyclone. Otherwise our stay was perfect - comfy beds, beautiful linen, every mod con, great bathrooms, never been in such a well equipped kitchen, immaculate and sue and james the hosts with theost...can"t say enough
We loved our stay at Clendon Homestead. Drenched in history and such a beautiful location. Sue and James are delightful and helpful hosts and have done an incredible job at restoring the homestead and maintaining the huge property. Everything was spotlessly clean and the house is very well resourced with everything needed on hand. Beds are very comfortable, lovely crisp linen and so quiet and peaceful. We will definitely be returning. Many thanks to Sue and James for sharing your slice of paradise.
My family and I had a wonderful experience staying at Clendon house. We were excited to discover the history of the property and the hosts (James and Sue) were excellent at giving the history of the area.
We had a wonderful stay, launching the boat from the property to explore the BoI.
The house was immaculate and was equipped with everything we required for a comfortable stay.
This place is by far the best experience we have had through either Bookabach or Airbnb. I thoroughly recommend the property to my friends and family - and now the general public
Unfortunately we were here during cyclone Gabrielle and had no power, water or cellphones. Fortunately we had camping equipment and managed well. Sue (our host) was incredible!
I would love to go back again for sure and explore this beautiful part of New Zealand.
Wonderful house with great history so well looked after.

Gillian and her family were wonderfully pleasant and resourceful during their stay as Northland was hit and isolated with the cyclone. It was regrettable that our generator failed early on and her family were extremely helpful in trying to get it working. Although we have sourced a replacement this was not available for their stay. Despite the difficulties they went beyond our expectations during their stay and in leaving the house so clean and tidy. They were a pleasure to host and we’d look forward to seeing them again when the Bay of Islands is back to normal.
Thanks Gillian and all.
We are a charitable trust who went to the venue to do some strategic planning. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this venue! The house was beautiful, clean, well stocked, modernised while still retaining the character of early NZ, and the site was just beautiful. The owners were wonderfully friendly as well, which also contributed to a great stay. Situated beside the sea, looking out over stunning vistas (including the amazing views through the house windows to the sea, framed by scarlet bougainvillea!), and the whole place was just wonderful. We had a fantastic stay for three days, and accomplished a lot of work as well. We will definitely be back as often as we can afford! :)
Wonderful old house, nicely remodeled, great location
We had a wonderful time here. House is just feet from the bay. We used the kayaks provided to explore the bay. Would love to come back. Hosts were great.
