This is a truly unique & beautiful property. The nearly 11 acres, majestic tree-lined entrance, lavender-lined walkway, gorgeous office/sunroom/family room/kitchen, & private Lake Michigan beach are extraordinary. The 190-step staircase to the beach is sturdy & thoughtfully designed with frequent benches and patio-like rest areas. We especially loved the Adirondack chairs around the fire pit—two wonderful evenings of s’mores and family time.The house was clean and well equipped, and check-in/parking were easy. The hosts were responsive, but at 13K for six nights, we expected a higher level of maintenance.There was a persistent musty/mildew smell that affected sleep, several uncomfortable beds, inconsistent hot water, and very weak Wi-Fi (we had to disconnect devices to stream). Several doors didn't lock, which felt unsafe, & two entire kitchen counters had nonworking outlets that couldn't be repaired during our stay.On day 5, landscapers cleared vegetation blocking the lake view from the patio, but extensive overgrowth around the house, cable car, historic guard house and abandoned garage remained.The property has a fascinating history—the 1928 house, old cable car to the beach, guard house, enormous lawn and mysterious outbuildings made us very curious about its past. We'd love to see the history better documented for guests.We enjoyed our stay and made wonderful family memories, but for the price, significant maintenance and landscaping improvements are needed.

Clean overall ,bathrooms need updating, showers too small and one smelled like urine . Kitchen sink had strong odor that we fixed with bleach. Kitchen appliances need upgrading… not getting up to temperature for cooking. Refrigerator was great but ice maker was slow so we refilled it with bagged ice. Beach and fire pit was great.

This was a wonderful experience in what felt like a historical timepiece. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen as well. The grounds were very expansive and the waterfront access was wonderful. The hosts were very quick to respond to any questions.

Charming, historic home that was great for a bigger group! Beautiful location, wonderful yard and great communication with the hosts. Property needs a bit of maintenance. Also, bathrooms are a little small but totally functional. Finally, this is out of the control of the hosts, but we experienced really bad flies on the beach that made it impossible to stay down at the beach for too long. Hoping this was a one off due to weather and could be managed with better preparation on our end.
