The House - a light and bright, calm beach house with spectacular views
Located on a private hillside above the beach and surrounded by pristine native bush, Mercury Bay Beach Retreat offers extraordinary, uninterrupted views of Front Beach, Flaxmill Bay and the dramatic cliffs of Shakespeare’s Cliff Scenic Reserve. This peaceful coastal sanctuary blends a comfortable, relaxed home with the tranquility of nature, making it the perfect place to unwind and recharge.

The main house features two spacious double bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open plan lounge and kitchen. A third double bedroom, with kitchenette and its own private WC, has separate access via external steps.

In addition, there is a separate studio apartment adjacent to the main house with a further double ensuite bedroom, a lounge with kitchenette and a private balcony with sweeping sea views.

The heart of the house is the modern open-plan kitchen and living area which flows onto a large deck with stunning views of Mercury Bay. The sun-drenched outdoor space with an outdoor dining table and awning is perfect for alfresco dining, morning coffee and evening drinks.

Behind the house, a lush grassy terrace offers a peaceful spot for lunch, sunbathing or reading. For the ultimate escape, retreat to the hillside cabin where a double daybed invites you to curl up with a book or take a siesta surrounded by nature and the sound of the waves from the beach beyond.

Explore Coromandel’s Natural Beauty

Whether you’re here to relax or explore, Mercury Bay Beach Retreat is the perfect base for discovering the beauty of the Coromandel Peninsula. Swim at Front Beach, just minutes from the house, or nearby Flaxmill Bay, Lonely Bay or Cooks Beach; take a short ferry ride to the shops, cafes and restaurants at Whitianga, or hike to the top of Shakespeare’s Cliff for panoramic views of Mercury Bay. For a day trip, visit the famous Hot Water Beach, Hahei or the stunning rock formations of Cathedral Cove.

The rooms in detail

The master bedroom faces the Bay with French doors opening onto decking which wraps around to the front of the house. From the queen sized bed you can look out across the Bay and hear the sound of the ocean. The bedroom includes a full ensuite bathroom and dressing room.

The second bedroom has its own private terrace to access the front and back gardens. There are 6 hooks for clothes, but no wardrobe or drawers.

The second bathroom includes a shower and washing machine.

The sunny kitchen area has windows to the terrace garden behind the house and a kitchen bar with 4 barstools with views across the Bay. There is double stainless Fisher and Paykel fridge and freezer, a gas hob and a microwave.

The dining area includes a rustic wooden table with two wooden benches with cushions.

The lounge includes a sofa, armchair, coffee table and two bean bags.

The third double bedroom has separate, external access from the front of the house. The room boasts its own private WC and small kitchenette with mini fridge, sink, toaster and microwave. There is a chest of drawers and three hooks for hanging clothes.

The separate studio apartment offers on site privacy for a couple. It includes a queen sized bed, an ensuite bathroom with shower, a light and bright lounge with a small kitchenette with sink, mini fridge, microwave and toaster. The lounge opens onto it's own private balcony with breathtaking views of the Bay.

Please note that wifi is not available at the property.

Eco Store body wash, hand wash, laundry and cleaning products are provided.

There is Weber Spirit II gas bbq for guests to use.
