Other things to note:

Rates:
Please note: Our base rate is for 2 people (double) sharing the main bedroom and ensuite bathroom with access to the 2nd bathroom/laundry as well or 2 people requiring 2 different bedrooms as singles. There will be an additional charge per person per night for each person staying after 2 people and up to 6 people maximum, whether child or adult. We do not lock off any bedrooms not allocated to guests as it would ruin the amenity of the house, but trust guests will only use bedrooms allocated that will be made up with linen depending on your party size and bed configuration needed - eg: doubles sharing one room or singles having a room on their own.

Travelling with children and suitability:
We welcome guests travelling with children. We have some children's plastic cups, plates & knives & forks. There are also some toys for younger children & balls and outdoor game sets for older kids. We also have a number of children’s books that would suit various ages.

We cannot guarantee that the house is completely child-proof for infants or toddlers and have pointed out the amenities of the house in detail so you are able to make an informed decision whether suitable for you prior to booking. If bringing children, it is your responsibility to supervise them & look after our furniture & belongings.

Children, regardless of age are counted in the guest count for the house and will be charged in line with our rates.

Access to the property and wildlife:
It is a picturesque drive on sealed road the whole way with the last 2 kilometres on an all-weather compacted unsealed road that is suitable for all vehicle types.

As we are in a wildlife area, we can get brush turkeys, tree kangaroos, cassowaries, bandicoots, possums and the occasional tree snake (non venimous) around the property. The sighting of all this wildlife usually depends on the season and the weather.

None of this wildlife will hurt you, but do not try to touch or interact with them if you do have a sighting. Guests remain responsible for their own safety, and a common sense approach should be taken at all times, such as closing screen doors.

We also have abundant rainfall. You may have an experience of completely blue skies and glorious views one day with a misty mountains experience the next. We cannot guarantee the weather!, but we can guarantee that both experiences are magical.

Altitude 700 Rural Retreat has been a happy place of calm, relaxation & rejuvenation from work & everyday big city life for the past 19 years. I hope the magic of the retreat can work for you too! I’ve been fortunate to have seen many parts of the world & embrace people, culture & cuisines from all backgrounds. My childhood home is in tropical North Queensland and I spend as much time here as I can now life has slowed down a little. Late 2025 will be the first time that our retreat has been offered into the short term rental market. Whatever your reason for wanting to come, I hope you will love it as much as I do and you will come away with that feeling of wanting to return. I'm here to assist you with any queries you have regarding the retreat or the area.

Why they chose this property

The Atherton Tablelands is a short drive to the coast - around 1.5 hours to Cairns International Airport which provides connections to tourists all over the world. The Atherton Tablelands is a relatively small area to get around. It has beautiful natural landscapes including 2 crater lakes and a larger man-made lake, heritage towns, gourmet food and great tourism experiences. Altitude 700 Rural Retreat is only 12 minutes drive to the rural town of Malanda which has everything you need and we're central to all the attractions. So close to amenities and yet it feels like another world. A true relaxation and rejuvenation experience to share with friends or family or get more active and walk the many trails close by and enjoy the landscape.

What makes this property unique

The land that Altitude 700 Rural Retreat sits on was carved out of a larger farm around 30 years ago. This is not able to be done today. Parcels of land must be must larger to be subdivided. Therefore, we get to look after a manageable block that is right in the middle of a working cattle property. The cows will come right up to the fence line and say hello. Wildlife and beautiful scenery also abounds. If you are lucky, you might spot the Lumholtz tree kangaroo which is native to the area. We've also had cassowaries in our yard. Curlew and brush turkeys will wander around. The 360 degree views of surrounding rolling green hills, mountains, rainforest and grazing cows is beautiful. At over 700 metres above sea level and located in the wet tropics, we do get a fair bit of rain, so it could be sunny and clear one day and a misty mountains experience the next. Both experiences are magical and the house is large enough with multiple living and outdoor spaces to enjoy either way.
