About the host

We took on the challenge of turning the property next door into a great holiday retreat. We are almost there. The sleeping spaces and 'outhouse' just needed a clean and tidy, and furnishing. The Living Shed renovation is complete but for a few finishing touches like which one of our favourite photos are we going to get put on canvas for the wall. Work on the landscape continues but is coming along nicely.

Why they chose this property

On the doorstep of the Tāwharanui Peninsula, One Pigeon Takatu offers a relaxing holiday base located in the centre of popular beaches and renown protected bush and ocean habitats. Far enough away to enjoy the quiet but close enough for easy access and services. The night sky is spectacular on a clear night - the Milky Way and Southern Cross twinkle overhead. Listen for the rare Cook's Petrel as they return to Hauturu at dusk each night. Our community has been trapping pests for well over 20 years and the bird life is flourishing. Watch the kereru, tui and kaka in the huge Morten Bay Fig tree on the corner of the property, as fantails flit about and grey warblers and shining cuckoo call each other.

What makes this property unique

Being at the top of the hill allows walking access to the beach but plenty of peace and quiet once you are done with water sports. You can choose to retreat or play - or both. We are close to Tāwharanui, Omaha, Goat Island, Matakana (movies, shops and the Saturday Market), restaurants, golf courses, horse riding. Separate sleeping buildings ensure you choose when to get up if you are holidaying with family or friends, while a shared living space provides plenty of room for social gatherings.
