Maggie’s Retreat - A Peaceful Country Escape
Maggie’s Retreat offers an easy, tranquil getaway for those seeking privacy, fresh country air, and a deeper connection with nature. Whether you’re stargazing under expansive night skies, admiring panoramic views of rolling hills, or simply soaking in the quiet, this modern country home is the perfect setting. Ideal for a romantic weekend, a family holiday, or a relaxed catch-up with friends.
PETS Pets are welcome, subject to a few conditions, as the retreat is also home to some treasured native wildlife.
LIVING SPACE The welcoming living space includes the open plan kitchen, dining room and living room. All room sections have countryside views to the north and is light filled and airy. The dining room table can accommodate 6–8 people. The living room includes an enclosed fireplace, a digital television, a three seater leather lounge, two fabric lounge room chairs and a coffee table. The interior is friendly, minimal and modern.
The living space opens to a cement tiled deck/patio with an outdoor dining table for 6–8 people, outdoor lounge chairs and BBQ. An overhead open beamed roof includes a partially covered area. This area looks out to the fabulous views, and sunset and onto a grassy area.
There is a second outdoor area upon entering Maggies house which is an outdoor setting with lounge and chairs facing the landscaped hill side garden.
Sit quietly and you might see a wombat, an echidna, a wallaby or kangaroo and certainly an array of birdlife.
LOCATION Hampton is 2.5 hours from Sydney’s CBD in Hampton, NSW—west of Katoomba and Lithgow—Maggie’s Retreat sits conveniently en route to the iconic Jenolan Caves. The friendly Hampton Hotel is also nearby: hamptonhotelmotel.com.au
Enter through the country gate and follow the lane to this charming retreat, set on 8 north-facing acres. Stroll through the terraced gardens filled with fruit trees, flowering bushes, and seasonal blooms. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, bandicoots—and don’t miss the birdsong that fills the air.
The house features an open-plan kitchen and living area with a cosy combustion fireplace, leading out to an alfresco dining and entertaining space. It’s the perfect spot to take in sweeping views of the Upper Run Valley, where the landscape shifts in colour from sunrise glow to sunset splendour.
GUEST ACCESS You have full access to the main house. Please be aware that our property is situated in a rural area, surrounded by nature, which means you may encounter wild animals during your stay. The expansive size of the property prevents us from having a complete fence enclosure.
FOOTWEAR It is recommended wearing ankle boots or covered shoes when walking in the paddocks. Enclosed footwear (not thongs) are recommended for all outside activity. Feel free to walk the farms paddocks, keeping within property boundaries.
PETS Kindly bring your pets bedding and bowls and refrain from allowing them to climb on furniture and beds.
If your four legged friends are accompanying you on a walk please keep them on a leash. Pet dogs must remain within eyesight and not into the paddocks or dams unaccompanied.
If you plan to bring more than one dog, kindly request approval in advance. Yes, we enthusiastically welcome pets, with accommodation allowing for a maximum of 2 pets. Please seek approval from the host.
NATIVE WILDLIFE Be mindful that Maggie's Retreat is home to native wildlife. You will enjoy a myriad of birdlife and if you are lucky, wombats, wallabies, kangaroos, possums, bandicoots and reptiles. Please keep curious pets away from native wildlife.

SEPTIC TANKS Our sewerage is a septic system, nothing other than toilet paper is to be flushed in the toilet. We have placed bins next to the toilet for your convenience.
RAINWATER Our water is tank rainwater, please be mindful of not wasting water.
TELEVISION The smart TV uses the internet. For streaming log into your personal accounts, feel free to browse digital TV channels and streaming services. Please sign out from your accounts before leaving.
GARDEN Please feel free to help yourself to herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers for your delight. Depending on what season and time of year it is will determine what is ready to use from the garden.
PARKING Please park adjacent to the garage on the grass.
DUAL HEATING?COOLING SYSTEMS Each room has a dual heating/cooling system. Feel free to change the temperature setting to suit you.
GAS HEATERS Portable gas and electric heaters are available on request.
CEILING FANS We have found that even on reasonably hot days, natural breezes are sufficient along with ceiling fans.
SLOW COMBUSTION WOOD FIRE As winter takes center stage in the mountains, indulge in the warmth of our fireplace and the provided firewood during the winter months from June to August.
The main living room has a slow combustion wood fire place which will keep the main rooms cosy during winter months. Firewood and kindling are provided for your convenience. If you need more wood, firewood can be bought at petrol stations.
SMOKING Feel free to smoke outside the house, keep butts within a container. No smoking inside the house.
FIRE PIT Naked fire (fire pits) are banned between October 1st to March 31st. Feel free to cook outside using the BBQ, unless there is a fire ban.
BBQ Please use the gas BBQ provided for outside cooking. Please clean thoroughly after use and remember to turn off the gas cylinder knob and BBQ knobs.
First Aid Kit The first aid kit is in the main bathroom cupboard for general need only.

Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Please turn off the BBQ knobs and the gas cylinder valve, leave BBQ lid open if used.
Lock all windows and sliding doors, then pull down the blinds.
Please lock the road entry gate on leaving Maggie's Retreat.

If your pet dogs are explorative or not animal friendly, please keep your friends on a leash, as native critters call Maggies Retreat home.

I have always loved the area from the Blue Mountains to the Central West. There's many interesting villages and changing landscapes, from bushy scrubby gum country to rolling country hills and then the sweeping grassy plains. The rivers and lakes are brilliant for walking, swimming and fishing.
