About this property

Two Private Riverside Cabins • Groups up to 10

Two private riverside cabins for families and friends travelling together.

Sleeping up to 10, River Song and Cascade sit around 150m apart on our family farm near Waitomo — close enough to share meals, adventures and long evenings together, but far enough apart for everyone to have their own space.

Each cabin has its own private river pool, outdoor bath, kitchen and beautiful views. Swim, kayak, fish for trout, explore the farm or simply settle in and enjoy having nowhere you need to be.

River Song sleeps 4, with a king four-poster and cosy double nook. Cascade sleeps 6, with a king bedroom plus two doubles in the loft, a large covered deck and outdoor kitchen.

It works beautifully for extended families, grandparents and adult kids, two families or groups of friends.

Staying 4+ nights? We’d love to take you on a complimentary private farm tour, including film locations and parts of our farm we don’t open to the public.*

*Subject to farm life and availability; not offered over Christmas/New Year.
*Excludes Christmas/New Year periods.

About the host

We’re Trudy and Brendan, and Ripples Retreat sits on our family sheep and beef farm in the King Country. I’m a designer, Brendan’s the farmer, and together we’ve created a beautiful retreat — two cabins 150meters aoart, on what we think is the most scenic part of our hill-country farm.

We live and farm here, so Ripples isn’t a resort or a polished tourism experience. It’s simply a very special part of our farm that we genuinely enjoy sharing with our guests.

Why they chose this property

We didn’t really choose it — our family has farmed here for generations.

Having travelled extensively around New Zealand, we still think the Mangaotaki Valley is one of the most extraordinarily beautiful and unexplored places we’ve come across. Limestone cliffs rise above rolling hill country, native bush and the river winding through it all.

So many of our guests arrive with no idea this valley is here. That sense of discovering somewhere quite unexpected is part of what makes staying at Ripples so special.

What makes this property unique

The cabins themselves are quite different. I designed them to feel like a giant hug — extraordinarily snug and comforting, while sitting in these stunning, wide-open landscapes. They’ve been built with incredible precision and care, with every little detail considered.

Then there’s where they sit — two riverside cabins, 150m apart on our family farm, each with its own private river pool, outdoor bath and wonderful sense of privacy.

You can swim, kayak, trout fish, explore the farm or simply stay put and enjoy having this extraordinary valley almost to yourselves.

Stay 4+ nights and, when farm life allows, we’d love to take you on a complimentary private farm tour, including film locations and parts of the farm not open to the public.

It’s that combination of snug, thoughtful spaces and the huge landscape around them that makes Ripples feel quite unlike anywhere else.
