Welcome to Sea La Vie, our whimsical family cottage tucked into the trees on beautiful Savary Island.
This is a place where mornings begin with birdsong and coffee on the deck, days are spent walking to the beach, exploring the island, and enjoying the slower rhythm of Savary life, and evenings end with long dinners surrounded by forest and fresh ocean air.
Sea La Vie is not a resort or luxury rental. It is our family cottage first, and when we are not using it ourselves we share it with a small number of guests each summer who appreciate the unique experience of Savary Island.
Rental income is largely reinvested into maintaining and improving the cottage, and like many island homes it continues to evolve over time. For example, last year we added the back deck and installed a hot water tank to provide a steadier, more reliable hot water supply, rather than the more intermittent on-demand setup often found in simpler off-grid cottages.
The property sits on a large forest lot mid-island near Indian Point, offering privacy, sunny open areas, a good lawn for outdoor games, and space for families to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Sea La Vie is best suited for families and respectful groups who appreciate nature, simplicity, and the realities of off-grid island living.
🏠 The Space
The cottage works well for families and multi-generational groups who want shared gathering areas along with private sleeping spaces.
Sleeping areas include:
• Bedroom 1 has a double bed and an outdoor patio door
• Bedroom 2 has a queen bed with indoor access
• Bedroom 3 has a single bed with indoor access
• Bedroom 4 has a double bed plus an Ikea stackable 2 twin beds, and is on the second floor with a private entrance
• The living room has a daybed and a pull-out double couch
Two bedrooms are standard size and have their own private exterior entrances, which many guests appreciate for added privacy.
Two bedrooms are smaller, cozy rooms.
Maximum occupancy: 8 guests total.
Although the cottage can accommodate a mix of sleeping arrangements, it is best suited to smaller groups who will enjoy the space comfortably while helping reduce strain on the off-grid systems.
⚡ Off-Grid Living
Sea La Vie operates fully off-grid, which is part of the Savary Island experience.
The cottage runs on a small solar system with battery storage.
Solar power supports:
• Lighting • Telus wireless internet modem • A few outlets for charging phones and small devices
Because electricity is limited, guests should be comfortable with mindful energy use.
The following high-heat electrical appliances are not available or permitted:
• Coffee makers • Toasters • Microwaves • Space heaters • Hair dryers • Flat irons • Television
A generator supports the remaining power needs when required, including filling the water bladder system and helping during extended cloudy periods.
Guests are encouraged to bring portable battery packs or power banks for charging phones and devices.
🍳 Kitchen, Water & Outdoor Living
The kitchen includes:
• Two propane refrigerators • Two propane cooking ranges • Outdoor BBQ
Each refrigerator has a freezer on top and a fridge below. Cooling works by cold air circulating downward from the freezer.
The ranges include a built-in toaster drawer.
For coffee, French press and stovetop percolators are provided, which work well with the propane stove.
Hot water is supplied by a hot water tank, and the property also includes seasonal outdoor showers, which many guests enjoy during the warmer months.
The large lawn offers a great space for outdoor games, family play, and relaxed time together.
🌐 Internet
The cottage has Telus wireless internet, suitable for email and basic browsing. Because Savary is remote, service may occasionally be intermittent.
🚤 Getting to Savary
Travel to Savary typically requires a full day of travel and early planning.
Typical route:
• Ferry to Powell River • Drive to Lund • Lund water taxi to Savary • Island truck taxi for luggage and supplies
Water taxis must be booked ahead of time, especially during the summer. The last departure from Lund is typically around 6 PM.
There are no visitor vehicles on Savary, so most guests walk and explore the island at a slower pace.
🛒 Groceries & Island Spots
Most guests shop in Powell River before travelling to Lund and bring groceries for the week.
At the beginning of the island near the dock, the general store offers a very good assortment of groceries, everyday essentials, treats, and other island basics, along with a licensed selection for adults.
Mid-island, after the conservation forest and closer to the cottage, you will find:
• Island Café, known for coffee and occasional evening entertainment • The Sugar Shack, a favourite stop for kids (bring cash)
🧺 What to Bring
Blankets and pillows are provided.
Guests bring their own:
• Sheets and pillowcases • Bath towels • Kitchen linens
Laundry must be done off-island due to water conservation and the practical limits of off-grid electricity.
🔥 Fire Restrictions
Savary Island is located in a very sensitive forest environment, and summer fire bans are common.
No fires of any kind are permitted on the property, including wood fires, fire pits, or propane fire pits.
No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property due to insurance requirements and wildfire risk.
📅 Booking Schedule
Due to island logistics and cleaning availability, peak summer stays are generally Saturday or Sunday-to-Saturday.
Only a small number of guest stays are released each season.
📋 Guest Requirements
Before arrival, guests must provide:
• Full name of every guest staying at the cottage • Signed Guest Agreement and Liability Waiver
Because the property operates off-grid, one person in the group should be comfortable with basic cottage systems and act as the main contact.
This person should be able to understand:
• Generator use if needed • Basic water system awareness • General off-grid use expectations
A short orientation will be provided on arrival.
Additional policies:
• The person booking must stay during the reservation • No subletting or third-party bookings • No unregistered guests or visitors • Pack-in / pack-out garbage policy • No smoking anywhere on the property • No parties or events
Sea La Vie is ideal for respectful families who appreciate nature, simplicity, and the slower rhythm of Savary Island life.

About the host
Hosted by Sophie
Sea La Vie is first and foremost our family cottage. Our family has spent many years enjoying Savary Island — the beaches, the quiet forest setting, and the slower pace of island life. When we are not using the cottage ourselves, we share it with guests so others can enjoy the same experience.
Because this is a personal family home rather than a commercial rental, we are thoughtful about who we rent to. We look for guests whose expectations align with the nature of the property — families or groups who appreciate the island environment, respect the home, and are comfortable with the rhythms of off-grid living.
During the main summer season, bookings are Saturday to Saturday (7-night minimum) due to island logistics and cleaning availability.
Our goal is simply to share a place that is meaningful to our family with guests who will enjoy and care for it in the same spirit.
Why they chose this property
This part of Savary Island is especially quiet, family-friendly, and full of the whimsical character that gives the island its charm. The cottage sits on rare double lots, creating a wonderful sense of space, privacy, and openness that is not easy to find. It gives families room to spread out, play outdoor games, and enjoy the outdoors in a relaxed way.
Set within the forest, the property also enjoys sunny open patches, decks, and gathering areas that create a lovely balance of shade and light throughout the day. The land here is relatively flat, which makes it easier and more comfortable to move around than in some hillier parts of the island.
What we love most is the peaceful, natural atmosphere — green, sheltered, and unhurried — while still being close to island favourites like the Sugar Shack and the café. It’s the kind of setting that makes it easy to slow down and settle into the rhythm of Savary life.
What makes this property unique
Sea La Vie Savary Cottage is a whimsical off-grid family retreat on a rare double lot in a peaceful forested setting on Savary Island. What sets it apart is the sense of space: a large private lot, sunny open areas, a generous lawn for outdoor games, and room for families to truly relax.
The cottage blends authentic island character with practical comfort, offering four bedrooms, inviting gathering spaces, sunny decks, a hot water tank for more reliable hot water, seasonal outdoor showers, and two refrigerators and cooking areas for easy week-long stays. Two bedrooms also have private exterior entrances, which gives added privacy and flexibility for families or multi-generational groups.
Close to beaches and walking paths yet tucked into a quiet natural setting, Sea La Vie is ideal for guests seeking a calm, nature-filled Savary escape.
