About the area
About this property
Luxe retreat on the Great Ocean Road. Commune with nature. Big ocean views.
The property is a fully self contained wing of a newly built luxury house on the Great Ocean Road. Situated at Cape Patton and 120m above the ocean, there are wide uninterrupted ocean views to take in. The property sleeps 4-6 and is best suited to 2 couples or a family seeking a more private holiday retreat and having it all to yourselves.
You can relax in comfort to soak up the spectacular views and nature on offer from the property itself. Otherwise, it's a short 10 minute drive to local family friendly surf beach at Kennett River, or 3-4 minutes to get to the ocean at Grey River for beach picnics, walks and swimming.
Situated mid-way between Lorne and Apollo Bay, all the adventures of the most beautiful parts of the Great Ocean Road are a short drive. Or you might choose just to stay put, relax and stare out at the sea, or wander and explore the cliff top property and adjoining areas in privacy. The property has resident wallabies and kangaroos who you will see grazing outside your windows every day. If you wander around you will see koalas too.
The property has privacy and access to nature for all guests as a prime feature. It is fitted out with an eclectic, luxe arrangement of casual furnishings and styling which will allow you to relax and unwind and appreciate the great big views and nature on show outside. The property is made of rammed earth, with polished concrete floors and rugs. There is a roof garden so the property remains very cool in summer, and thermally stable all year round. With north facing glass in all the rooms it sucks in the sun in the winter. It's very quiet inside, and with both blockout blinds blinds and soft, light filtering curtains on every window to provide all the window dressing options you might want.
The property sleeps 4-6. It is optimal for a family or 2 couples. It has 2 bedrooms with queen beds. There are 2 bathrooms (one is ensuite). The Dining/Kitchen studio room has a daybed which doubles as a king single and a rollout king single trundle for some accommodation flexibility. There's a living room with TV, fireplace and extra long couch. The property has starlink internet for the TV or your own devices. Telephone coverage is sound if you use a provider on the Telstra service network. The other networks are patchy, but you have internet.
The property has a large vegetable garden and you are welcome to pick whichever fresh vegetables and herbs are in season at the time to complement your own supplies.
The kitchen has a double induction cooktop and a combination convection/microwave oven. It is stocked with some emergency basic cooking supplies, tea coffee. There is a gas bbq and outdoor setting for an outdoor eating option close to the kitchen. If there is something you need, chances are the owners can get it for you. There's a washing machine and outdoor clothes line.
Although connected to a larger house (where the owners are sometimes in residence), there are no neighbours in sight and ideal for nature lovers looking to get away from town and the sounds of modernity. The house itself is genuine animal hide and you will encounter kangaroos and wallabies at close quarters as part of the wide range of wildlife on the property. A short stroll along the property driveway if want to see a koala or 2. It's a nice walk along The Rise (public dead-end road - very quiet). We are situated 120m above sea level on a cape so there are often eagles, falcons, and birds of prey along with a large array of birds that are always around.
Some less common ideas about times to Visit.
Full Moon - Stunning Views.
Possible the most atmospheric and spectacular views are monthly on a full moon where the big slice of ocean is lit up. The moon rises just after sundown at this time so as long as the clouds stay away you will can enjoy it.
Late Spring - November - Wildflowers.
On the property local leptospurnum shrub is common and wildflowers are in full bloom. Its a dramatic display.
Late Summer/Early Autumn. Blackberry season.
You can easily collect a years supply (10+kg) on the property if it's your thing. They freeze well. With vanilla icecream, they are a knockout and something to remind you of the great visit you had.
