Up 4 Flights of Stairs

Up 4 Flights of Stairs (5th floor for us Americans) and no elevator. That was not in the description or we would have booked another place. We had luggage and were traveling with seniors. The host was not responsive. He provided an incorrect code for the door. Luckily someone in our party guessed the last digit was wrong or we might still be waiting to get in. Pros: Fast internet, close to the train station and a short walk to restaurants.

We had a serious safety incident at this apartment that forced us to leave at 3am. The apartment and location were fine, but around 1:30am a previous guest used the door code to enter while we were asleep. We heard the entry chime, ran to the foyer, and held the door shut while the person insisted they needed to retrieve something. The door had only a single lock with no deadbolt, so anyone with the code can get in.We called the host who admitted he’d given the code to the former guest and asked us to let him in. We refused. After 20-30 minutes of arguing, the host agreed to change the door code and called the guest to tell them to leave.We reported the incident immediately to Vrbo and provided video evidence. Vrbo said it was a serious security violation, cancelled and refunded our stay, and offered to cover the cost of a hotel. We had to walk well outside the city center to find one with vacancy at 3am.Vrbo’s support was excellent, but the host’s decision to let a former guest into an occupied apartment at night without warning was unacceptable and frightening.
