Old school charm

Owner/manager was very pleasant to work with. House is quite large with many places to hide. Property is large. Motorcycle riders will find it a bit tricky to maneuver driveway but doable.

Quiet and Serene

Beautiful scenery and house. We moved items that were on counter to put our items. Did discuss with owner when there was a occurrence that would need attention. She did contact us promptly for information. Would be nice if there wasn't loud equipment started early in the morning. Would stay there again.

Melisa we are so sorry you had that experience. We have no control over all loud repairs and the time of your they are done ( road work or county mowing) but will be glad to ask anyone working at our property to reschedule or start later we would just need our guests to contact us so we can make those arrangements. Again thank you for staying with us.

Too Many Things

The property this home sits on is serene and ideal. The house is huge with plenty of space to spread out for alone time or to hang out together indoors or outdoors. There are so many beautiful features in this house…hard wood floors, stone fireplaces, huge countertop, spiral staircase etc. I also felt that this place was pretty clean as far as rentals go. However, the beauty of this home and a welcoming atmosphere are diminished by plain and simple “too many things”. Too many accent pillows alone (over 90. Yes, I counted). Where do I sit?Too many used toiletries and personal items left behind in drawers and cabinets. Who lives here?Too many decorations and too much clutter filling spaces that would be more enhancing and useful left bare. Too many furniture covers made us feel like we shouldn’t use that space. More like sheets than covers. Too many mothballs! Stinky.Too many times having to reach into the back of the toilet to stop it from running. It’s a simple fix. Please make sure your listing stays updated as we booked expecting a hot tub and there is not one. Property manager responds quickly and was super nice.
Small table in hallway-not our stuff.
Outdoor fire pit area. Nice.
Beautiful. Front porch is so nice.

Faith Thank you for your feedback and you are correct we can fix the toilet asap. We have a handi person available and would have been glad to send them out but now that we know about the issue we will get that repaired. We will gladly remove some of the clutter and try to make things a bit more comfortable for our guests. The hot tub issue unfortunately was a mistake on the listing via Vrbo we never had a hot tub nor put it in the amenities or have a photo of a hot tub. Once you notified us we went to our Vrbo account and it was listed as an amenity we removed it immediately. We are so sorry and now monitor the account daily to be sure that it doesn’t get changed ever again! We are very glad you enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.

Excellent historic home overlooking the Ohio river.

The home was nicely furnished with three living room areas, a complete kitchen with every thing you need, four bedrooms with comfortable bedding, three full bathrooms and linens supplied. We very much enjoyed the party house right on the river and the adjacent fire pit with comfortable benches. The driveway to the home is steep but very negotiable for cars and motorcycles. We enjoyed the time so much we are considering coming back next year.

Plenty of room

This property was huge in and out. We had more room inside than we needed and there were six of us. The outside fire pit and out building with a deck overlooking the river was a great spot for hanging out at night. The only issue we had was the upstairs toilet was not working at its best and the owner said it was most likely getting replaced. I will still give the property 5 stars because everything else was a plus and I would definitely rent again.

A beautiful home but a few issues

The house has a beautiful porch with a wonderful view of the Ohio river however I should have listened to other reviewers about the clutter and check in issues. All I received prior to the visit was the address, I had to email Linda (the morning of our visit!) for information on how to access the house. Because I didn’t receive any information I looked on line for check in time which stated 3 pm, the owner showed up at 3:20 and was upset that we were there so early (he later said check in was 4). The upstairs toilet didn’t work so I texted the owner who sent over someone but he wasn’t able to fix it. I texted the owner again with an update and was called “a complainer”! The master bedroom was charming but looked like the owners had just left and would be returning soon with the music equipment and personal items. I have given and received high ratings for all my VRBO stays so these comments aren’t because I’m a complainer😁

Relaxing in Elegant Surroundings

We stayed for 5 nights and loved every minute of it. The weather was a little warmer so we did get to spend time outside. We felt like we had gone back in. There was very little traffic on the highway. The view of the river was beautiful too!

Fireworks and relaxation

My family visited the house for an extended weekend and were very pleased with the property. The porch was so big and a great place to have morning coffee and watch the fog lift off of the river. We were also lucky enough to be able to watch fireworks above the river right from the deck. Overall it was a great experience and we would come back again.

Quiet, out of the way luxury

Beautiful and spacious home gave us the perfect quiet getaway. Multiple outdoor spaces and a perfect riverside deck made for quiet contemplation and conversation among friends. Everything was first class and well done. The grounds guy was helpful and assisted us with a couple bits of information. I have read the other reviews, and yes there are more things here and there than in other VRBO rentals...like the music stuff not be touched, but the space is big enough and grand enough that it's not a big deal. Its all out of the way and it adds to the charm to see that others use it for artistic endeavors. Great find.

Beautiful, but cluttered

Beautiful home and the grounds were very well maintained. It was difficult getting check-in information all the way up to the day of arrival. This was stressful given we were flying in with ederly parents. As for the stay, it was more like someone loaned us their actual home for the weekend rather than a VRBO. The fridge was packed so full of food and condiments we literally had to move their stuff to the drawers just so we had room to put food for 6 people for 3 days. We had to clear the main kitchen center counter just to be able to use it as well as the other counters. Look closely at the kitchen counter picture and you can actually see the clutter. The master bedroom was filled with musical instruments and even had a bottle of jelly and Chloraseptic spray on one of the several tables all of which were packed full of personal belongings. Both counters in the bar area were completely packed - even had a printer (not connected) sitting there, so no room to hang out. Nearly every table and counter space was cluttered with personal belongings throughout the house. We were afraid to set anything down for fear it would get mixed in with their personal belongings. We were busy with family stuff that kept us out of the house most of the time, but I could certainly see this being an issue if you were planning on being at the house most of the time. The furniture in the sitting room near the bar was covered with blankets that appeared to be dirty. Wish they would have at least shook off the covers. There were dead bugs when we went to shake them off. I did hear these are common during the summer, but a quick check of the house before our arrival would have helped. The bathrooms appeared to be clean. The back house with the grill by the river smelled of mothballs so bad that you really couldn't hang out there either, not even on the deck outside. The odor was so strong, it left a taste on your tongue. The groundskeeper, who seemed very nice, was there every morning at 9AM - even Sunday. It did not afford the privacy you would expect due to the groundskeeper presence every morning and there is another house on the property. Overall, it is a beautiful property, just needs some major cleaning up of the personal items and better staging for guests. The front porch was the highlight of the house. It has some nice rocking chairs and was completely uncluttered!

Relaxation and Rejuvenation

It is located in a quiet, secluded location on the Ohio River where a person can relax and just enjoy the quiet, if this is a person's preference and need. It was for us. Many Thanks

Not what we expected.

The home is awesome and the location, history, and views are extraordinary. However, we found a home that appears to be actively lived in. Personal clothing, personal toiletries, and personal food and drinks were left as if the owners would be coming home at any point. There was even a wine collection and a stock of liquor. The main bedroom is filled with keyboards, guitars, and amplifiers. All of this created an atmosphere where we could not get comfortable. In any case, we definitely were not prepared either by the VRBO description or the materials left for us upon our arrival.

There haven’t been any comments about personal items with our home before. Toiletries, etc. are stored separately, on closet shelves, or in separate vanity cabinet drawers. We will do better with our description This large, old-southern style mansion house that looks over the Ohio River, is occasionally used as a recording studio. The music equipment is placed out of the way, to not interfere with the guests’ space in that one room.” The room is very big 25x15 and can accommodate guests and some musical equipment. Overall the house is over 4000 square feet and can accommodate guests and their belongings. Again thanks for your feedback and we will make adjustments to the description to better let future guests known the home is a family vacation home and there are some personal items about.
