About this property
Spectacular Ocean View & All-Season Sunsets from Private Lanai Wailea Ekolu 1704
Aloha,
Welcome to our family gem, location Wailea Ekolu Unit 1704. Our 1070 square foot spacious condo with private lanais, has been a family treasure since it was purchased new in 1979. Newly renovated and restored to its original vintage condition, the condo has been owned by one family and used only by family members ever since it was purchased over 40 years ago.
Featuring from our second-floor private lanai you will be amazed by views of tropical manicured gardens with the back drop of the Pacific Ocean and views of 3 nearby islands, Molokini Crater, Kaho’olawe, and Lanai. Perfect for watching migrating Humpback whales spouting and breaching, November through April, or relax after a day of site seeing to take in and enjoy the evening sunsets, January through December. The unit is clean and functional, with vaulted wood ceiling, one bedroom and king size bed, two full bathrooms, oversize living & dining room, and kitchen.
The Ekolu Village complex consists of 17 buildings and 148 privately owned residential apartments on approximately 17 acers of tropical manicured gardens, walkways, picnic areas, parking area, recreational pavilion, and two swimming pools. The development boarders the, championship “Blue” golf course. Built in 1979, primary residence were avid golfers, that took advantage of the dry south Maui weather.
Conveniently located within walking distance, you can pick up groceries or meals at Island Gourmet Market and browse the upscales shops and dining at the, Shops of Wailea, the Monkey Pod restaurant by Merriman or morning coffee at Akamai Coffee Co. located at the end of the Ekolu private walking path which ends at Wailea Village.
Centrally located, enjoy a round of golf at one of the several Wailea courses, tennis or relaxing at one of the several, best on Maui, clean white sand beaches which Wailea/Makena are known for.
The marine life is vibrant in the waters of south Maui and our place is within 5 miles from the best snorkeling on island, Ulua Beach is only half a mile away, Maluaka Beach (aka Turtle Town) 3 miles, and Ahihi-Kinau Marine Preserve 5 miles drive.
Enjoy your stay and vacation,
Mahalo

About the host
Hosted by Steve MacDonald

Aloha,
My name is Steve, my wife and I live in the Seattle vicinity. We were married on Maui, summer of 1989. We have developed a deep connection to Maui, and have traveled here for many years. I’m self-employed, turning my hobby into a business 35 years ago. My wife works for the school district, specifically with special needs young adult students transitioning into the workplace. Our vacation schedules, and summers off, allows us to visit several times a year for a couple weeks or months at a time. We both enjoy the outdoor Hawaiian lifestyle, weather, the many beaches we go to, activities and the laid-back aloha spirit of the islands. Winter, spring, summer or fall, the climate is always a comfortable mid 80’s with cool afternoon trade winds.
Over the years we have seen Maui transform from a small rural island community covered by sugar cane and pineapple fields. Today everything you’re able to get on the mainland is available too, on Maui. The advantage is, Maui has become an affordable vacation destination with plenty of sightseeing and activities to make for memorable experiences.
I have never spoke to a visitor that said they will never come back, the conversation is always one of, “when will I be able to return, and how long can I stay for my next vacation here”
Enjoy your stay.

Why they chose this property
My father and uncle originally bought this condo after it was built in 1979. They were both avid golfers and Maui was convenient for them to escape the cold-wet pacific northwest weather during the winter to enjoy sunny south Maui golf. Only family members were allowed to stay here. I purchased the condo to keep it in the family so future family members could enjoy using it, as I was able to. Now too, my wife and I will have a place to semi retire and visit for longer stays.
I frequently traveled to southeast Asia in the 70’s and 80’s. Maui was a great half way point to stop and adjust to time zone differences and acclimate from jet lag. So, when the family purchased the property, it became our layover destination. Stopping here several time a year I fell in love with Maui, its outdoor activities, and the tropical climate.
