The cottage sits approx. 75 feet from the back of the main Manor, with a granite/stone breezeway between, creating a large patio space for guest to enjoy. It also has a small fenced in back yard. Once inside the cottage it is open and airy, decorated with a nautical theme. This area also has the warmth of a cozy gas fireplace in the living area along with a "smart TV" included. The ground floor bedroom area is just around the corner, with a double bed and Armoire. The kitchen is more farmhouse industrial decor and is just off of the dining area and is fully equipped. Full bath has a corner shower. Up the stairs is the second bedroom with a double bed and across from that is a small office with a daybed. The entire inside space and backyard is for you alone. Courtyard is for all guests. Parking is located beside the Manor in the graveled lot with plenty of parking, bring your boat, kayak or wave runner! Get away and come have fun in our small riverfront town. We look forward to welcoming you as our guest. My husband and I booked a Saturday - Monday Labor Day getaway last minute in the Cottage behind the main house. Gwendolyn was very quick to reply to all of our back and forth and check-in was easy. I did note the place description that the train was close by, but I did not notice it in the photos, showing it was 20 feet from the bedroom wall, my fault I suppose. The property is tired, with crumbling patio stones, chipping paint on the buildings, and broken patio furniture. I did read somewhere that the Cottage was once a bar and it shows; the Budweiser refrigerator is hidden behind a curtain at the headboard of the bed, heavy duty slide locks are on the doors, and the drink rails are all around the first floor. Our biggest issue though was the cleanliness of the rental. It was definitely not up to par with dead bugs in many spots, dirty floor corners, dusty dining room chairs, and a sticky kitchen trash can. We were only staying two nights and didn't want to be interrupted so we did not reach out Gwendolyn, though she says she wishes we did so she could have sent the cleaners over to refresh what they cleaned a week prior. We've enjoyed many getaway rentals and I'm sorry to say this one did not meet our expectations, certainly not for the price we paid.

Thank you for your feedback and for recognizing our quick communication and easy check-in. I’m sorry the Cottage did not meet your expectations.
Because we are located directly along the river, bugs and spiders can unfortunately appear quickly, especially during the summer months. The Cottage had been professionally cleaned about a week before your arrival, but in hindsight, we should have scheduled a quick refresh immediately before check-in, and we will be doing that going forward.
I truly wish you had reached out when you arrived. I would have gladly had our cleaning team return to address anything you were unhappy with. The broken patio furniture you mentioned was an umbrella, which I also could have replaced right away had I known.
We do try to be very transparent about the nearby train and include aerial photos showing its proximity to the property, as we know that can be important when choosing a place to stay.
We appreciate your feedback and will use it to make improvements for future guests. I’m only sorry we weren’t given the opportunity during your stay to make things right.
We rented for a month between Thanksgiving and Christmas while visiting family in the area. The cottage was wonderful, Fully equipped with everything we needed,.
When we arrived and walked in, Gwen had the cottage decorated for Christmas to include a tree. A wonderful touch.
We would certainly rent again.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. Come back anytime.
The property was clean and mostly as described (there is only one queen, one double, and one twin trundle; the listing was a bit confusing). The kitchen is very spacious and large, and the dining table can fit a large family.Gwendolyn is very communicative and responsive. We couldn't find the lights in the kitchen, and she immediately helped us by text. When the power in the neighborhood went out due to a downed tree, she answered my questions right away, However, this property is perhaps a bit more bare bones than we hoped for. Getting comfy there isn't easy (there's only one oversized couch), and the train is right behind the house. We knew the train ran behind the home, but you should just know the tracks are feet from the back of the house. There are more trains throughout the night than I thought there'd be (about 4), and the whistle must sound before they ride through town. The beds are fine, the bathroom was clean, but the shower is small (and we needed to go get some additional soaps and shampoos, as they were travel-sized and limited for the small group staying there).Unfortunately, I can't give this home five stars, despite my preference for Gwendolyn, who is a good host. For a couple of nights, this place will work for you if you can handle the noise of whistles and trains.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for highlighting the cleanliness of the home, the spacious kitchen, and your experience with my communication — I truly appreciate it!
Regarding the trains: you're absolutely right, they are very close. We actually have photos in the listing showing just how near the tracks are, and we mention the train presence in multiple places throughout the description. That said, we know it can still be a surprise to hear them more frequently at night, and we understand this isn’t ideal for every traveler. We locals have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them ourselves!
I also appreciate your notes about the listing details and supplies — I’ll take another look to make sure the bed descriptions are crystal clear, and will explore ways to make things feel a bit more cozy and better stocked for short stays.
Bryan and I (Gwendolyn) bought the Historic home in 2015, I absolutely fell in love with it and the quaint waterfront town. The "Cottage" at the time was being used as a glorified storage shed. However in the past it had been many things, most recently about 2011 it was known as a small little Bar called "The Bee's Nest" then it became a small convenience store. When we first bought the property we did a quick fix up of the cottage and our son and his wife moved in and rented for a while. After buying their first home we were trying to decide what to do with the space. Open another store? Move my gift shop into the space? So Many possibilities, but we finally decided to open it to guest visiting our little town. Currently there is not a place to stay right in town, and we wanted to share our love of it with others. It is a great little weekend getaway location. Not wanting everyone to refer the space as a Bar (mine you we love a cocktail or two from time to time) We decided to give the property a whole new name, Gwendolyn's Marigold Manor (Cira 1900). We are so happy that we took the time to look at this property, it was meant to be, we came to town to downsize, buy a little condo on the river, we said, ha ha ha. Gwendolyn
Why they chose this property
Beautiful 1902 steamboat gothic home. We have 3 different units, The King's Quarter's, The Queen's Suite and The Cottage out back. take a look at all of them. They are all designed to be an AirBnB not a Bed and Breakfast so each unit is totally private to you. We are within walking distance to everything! Our Waterfront Premade is 500 ft. away! Restaurants, Parks, Museums, Coffee Shop and Gift Shops. We love our Historic home and love being able to share it with visitors and guest!
