About this property

Tallwood Timber: a Family Friendly Ski House in Southern Vermont

Overview
Tallwood Timber VT is a spacious family friendly ski house in southern Vermont; conveniently located in the heart of the “Golden Triangle” - between Stratton, Bromley, and Magic Mountains. Okemo, Killington, and Mt. Snow are also an easy drive from the home.

Access to local trails (e.g. Appalachian/Long Trail), lakes (Lowell Lake State Park), and outdoor amenities. Nearby shopping and dining in Manchester, Stratton, Londonderry, Weston, among other local establishments.

Travel times average approximately 4 hours from NYC, and about 3 hours from Boston area.

Layout
With a mid-70s-modern vibe, this expanded homestead yields substantial space for socializing and relaxing after a full day on the slopes. The first floor boasts multiple independent living areas - each with its own accompanying wood burning stove. The first living room (adjacent the dining room) provides access to a large front deck (great for stargazing and getting some fresh air), whereas the larger great room (aka the Empire Room) provides ample space to watch TV, hang at the bar, play foosball, and even some legacy Nintendo. [Fun fact: the french doors leading into the Empire Room were originally installed within the Empire State Building in NYC, hence the nickname.]

Full sized dining room and kitchen fully equipped to accommodate preparation and enjoyment of family style gatherings. Convenient first floor full bath and laundry located off the mudroom.

Bedrooms
Heading upstairs, you will immediately encounter the second full bath and two equally sized guest rooms. The "Bromley Room" includes one Full size bed and one Twin bed. The "Stratton Room" contains one Queen bed - perhaps the most private quarters of the house.

Continuing down the hallway leads to the "Magic Room". This Master Suite occupies approximately a quarter of the home's square footage. It contains the master Queen bed, and a hallway leading to an oversized master bathroom and two additional bedrooms - one with dual Twin beds, and the other with dual bunk beds (4 Twin beds).

Tallwood Timber can comfortably accommodate [sleep] 12-13 guests in beds.

WiFi/Cable
Your stay includes full access to high-speed wireless internet (speeds to accommodate many HD streaming devices simultaneously) and HD cable TV (Comcast/Xfinity) in multiple rooms.

Property
Tallwood Timber sits on 1 acre of land, backing up to undeveloped forest. Local creek and hiking/cross-country skiing trails within walking distance. Gravel driveway will accommodate several (6+) vehicles for off street parking. Detached two-car garage available for resources (e.g. firewood, garbage disposal) and may be available for covered vehicle parking upon request.

Virtual Check-In/Check-Out process. Keyless entry (electronic passcode) facilitates ease of access for all guests within your party.

Tallwood Timber employs professional cleaning services, executing cleaning and disinfecting techniques in accordance with FDA and CDC guidelines - including those on high traffic surfaces, knobs, handles, and switches. Additionally, all efforts will be made to allow for ample time between guests and turnover services.

COVID-19
Please note: the state of Vermont regularly updates its guidance on out-of-state visitor restrictions, quarantine requirements, and all other mandates related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is advised that guests monitor and adhere to the state’s guidance in advance of booking reservations and/or during your stay at Tallwood Timber.

Family Ski Trip
Enjoyed our Vermont family ski trip. The house was well equipped clean and good location. The bedroom set up of this property is quite odd. The main bedroom/master is situated in a hallway that makes it wide open lacking privacy from the other 4 bedrooms. The owners were responsive and fantastic throughout the process.

Great house- nice property
We had a lovely stay at the house although we went in between seasons and therefore there’s not too much to do. The owners were great and easy to communicate with. The bedroom layout is a little bizarre but there was more than enough room for an extended family of 11.

About the host

Hosted by Scott and Dan Barbour

Host profile image
Scott and Dan Barbour [brothers] are NJ natives with a lifelong connection to southern Vermont. As their family had owned a ski house here in Londonderry from the 1980s through the early 2000s, Vermont became a second home during many a winter weekend. Both Scott and Dan learned to ski as soon as they could walk [practically locals at Magic, Stratton, Bromley, and Okemo Mountains] - later converting to snowboarding to jive with their admiration of skateboarding and surfing in the mid-90s. As they each married and had kids of their own, they vowed to carry on the family tradition, providing the same ski/snowboarding and après ski cultural exposure for their children. Together with each of their wives (Alicia and Jill Barbour, respectively), the Barbour Family founded Tallwood Timber in 2020.
