We had another wonderful stay at Moon Bay. Condo was convient, first floor, perfect for our vacation. Two bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath. Having a boat slip was a necessity. We came for the Lobster Mini Season in July and we’re not disappointed. Snorkeling, diving, wreck diving, were fantastic. The amenities were wonderful, pool, fishing cleaning station, club house, BBQ Pits and a very nice secure private deck.
The communication with Arthur was great. He was very responsive to questions and with getting us all of the information needed for checking in. The condo complex was great. Kayaks were available to use whenever we wanted to. The pool was heated and clean and plenty of lawn chairs to go around. We never felt like there was a time line for us to get out there or we wouldn’t have a place to hang out. There was actually quite a bit to do: fishing from the dock, kayaking, tennis and pickle ball shuffle board and more. The condo itself needed a little help. When we walked in it had a very distinct musty smell like it had been shut up for quite some time. The carpet had seen better days and was really stained and food crumbs all over. The bathroom still had urine down by the bolts (clearly not from us) and had long dark hair on the walls and in the sink. I am blonde. The air conditioner is very loud, the washing machine is so loud you have to yell to talk to each other. We actually left when it was on so we didn’t have to hear it. It was definitely lacking basic maintenance. We aren’t very high maintenance travelers but basic cleaning and up keep are important. There were different items that were broken also. It was nice to be able to walk out of the back patio and be right at the pool and all of the other amenities and location was great. I’m not saying this is a bad place, it’s not, but definitely should be something to be aware of.
We enjoyed our second stay at Moon Bay. We like the area, and the property has all the amenities we were looking for. Very much enjoyed the addition of the private beach and the improved beachfront area since our last visit. Plenty of space for our children to spread out and activities to stay busy with (recreation room, outdoor games, beach, pools and docks). Our owner was responsive at check in and helped to quickly restock a few items for us upon arrival. We would certainly consider staying at Moon Bay again.
As rental property owners ourselves, we did feel it necessary to mention the state of this unit and the overall atmosphere of Moon Bay. The unit needs general maintenance; we witnessed loose trim (separated from wall), missing and broken light fixtures, towel and toilet paper bars pulling off walls, and the kitchen faucet sprayer not being functional. We did communicate to the owner upon our check-in as to what we observed; this review is not intended to be a surprise.
We were also not impressed with the overall cleanliness. There were obvious food stains in the refrigerator, dirty floors, heavily stained carpets in the master bedroom and food items/crumbs under the master bed which had cultivated a collection of small ant-like bugs that made their way into our suitcase (and home with us unknowingly).
As for Moon Bay as whole, this visit we felt almost as if we were staying at a retirement community. This was very apparent around the pool area. Individuals would save lounge chairs and tables shortly after sunrise (a direct contradiction of the rules and regulations that were provided to us) and repeat the behavior daily. We got the feeling at times that our children being present was an annoyance to some. We overheard a conversation referring to child swimmers as “froggies” and how those individuals did not like how many of those “froggies” were in the pool at times. If Moon Bay is truly intending to trend towards or cater to an older demographic, no worries, just advertise it in that manner.
Having stayed on this property several times, I found this ground floor unit exceptional for its location to the pool without the hassle of using the elevator. This unit has a nice patio with easy access to pool, game room and dock. Spectacular sunsets viewed from the dock !
Well-appointed condo in beautiful grounds with great pool/beach/docks/game room. Excellent location, but close to the main road. This unit has a lovely patio and garden that we really enjoyed. We used the pool daily, it's large and fun for all. Arthur, our host, was great and gave great tips on how to explore and enjoy the area. Best Key Largo sunsets from the dock. Excellent stay. We saw a manatee hanging out under the docks on our last morning there, a treat for our last day!
