About the host

Over the past 25 years our family has owned, renovated, lived in, and rented out six different homes in Northeast Ohio. In addition, we have hosted over two dozen international students and business guests from several exchange programs. We love throwing parties and hosting events for large groups of family and friends.
During our vacations, we travel in the U.S. and abroad, and tour all the historical buildings we can find. Our bucket list includes all the U.S. National Parks. We have visited dozens of historical locations in 48 states in our RV filled with kids, pets, snacks and shoes.

Why they chose this property

Our family purchased this beautiful historic property in January 2019 after it sat empty for seven years. The home is a historical treasure that was built in the 1890's by Lydia Steele and her husband, Frank Chapin Moodey, on three acres given to them by her father, George Steele. The George Steele Mansion Inn is five houses east of our home.
We saw the potential for the lovely house and gardens and barn to be an amazing guest house and venue for daily or overnight visitors. The location is among the prettiest in the county, with views of Lake Erie College and its fountains on Historic Route 20 / Mentor Avenue.
The home was renovated in seven months and opened for business in Summer 2019. We are continually improving the property, and the basement pub is our current restoration project. Our plans for 2021 will keep us busy renovating the 1400 SF barn / carriage house, as well as adding wheelchair access and improving the gardens with landscaping and hardscaping.

What makes this property unique

Almost all of the home's original features such as woodwork, lighting, bathroom fixtures, doors, windows, and wallpaper have been retained from the original 1890's structure.
For modern comfort and safety, the mechanical systems were updated in 2019 including the electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural supports in the home.
Guests say it is like staying in an incredibly comfortable living museum! Host a tea party, event, or dinner using our 1200-piece vintage china and crystal collection, with linens and tableware.
In the winter, you can bake cookies in the kitchen, or curl up with a book from our library in one of the large window seats. During the summer, enjoy your coffee on one of our porches, go for a walk through the adjacent historic district, host a cookout in the large shaded yard, and snuggle under vintage quilts as you roast marshmallows over a backyard bonfire.
