Wonderfull Stay

Our stay at The Shire was wonderful! The cabin is nice and cozy and the location is perfect. I love all the extra touches and how the cabin is so welcoming, even for our fur baby. In addition to the fenced yard, there was a cute bed and bowls waiting just for him. I can’t say enough great things, We will definitely be back!

July 4th stay

We absolutely loved our stay at The Shire! The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. We loved the direct water access and we kayaked for hours. The house had everything we needed. We will certainly come back again.

Very Charming Cottage.

The Shire was the perfect stay for a few getaway days. Home was cozy, clean and all we needed. The Little River Canyon falls trail was an amazing adventure. We visited three different antique stores and a variety of specialty shops on one of our rainy days. My husband and I highly recommend visiting this area, lots of scenic views and historic sites. Book your accommodations at The Shire, it’s definitely a win win😊

Rainy weekend away

This weekend was rainy but we were able to experience so many things. The metal roof made the rain so much more enjoyable. The Shire was amazing and our pup enjoyed the fenced in yard. There were so many details tha made it feel like your own. We will be back for sure!

Perfect relaxing vacation

Most laid back vacation we have ever taken. So cozy and felt like home!! We loved the river and the fenced in yard for our dogs. We will definitely be returning sometime in the future!!

The Shire Weekend Getaway

My husband and I stayed at The Shire with our two miniature Dachshunds. Upon arrival we were amazed at all the detail the owner had taken to ensure a relaxing time away from home. The home and amenities are gorgeous. A much needed getaway - thank you for a wonderful time.

Great property in a Great Location!

The Shire is better than described on the listing. I planned for a relaxing break from the stress of work and town and this was Perfect! The property is rustic and very charming! The fully stocked kitchen, outside grill and the Hot Tub makes it worthwhile! The Geese , chipmunks and hummingbirds are just lagniappe! Will visit again!!

Delightful

We really enjoyed this delightfully private cabin. Everything felt welcome and inviting. My mother is in poor health and I've been looking for a safe place to get her out. Thank you for that safe and lovely place. Mentone was equally safe and lovely. We'll see y'all again late summer. And, I'll use that kayak next time.

Spring Break at the Shire

We had a great and relaxing stay at the Shire over our Spring Break week. Our son enjoyed taking the kayaks out each afternoon and we are enjoyed the wood fire pit followed by a soak in the hot tub every evening. It was quiet, safe, and easy to find. We found the beds comfortable and we all slept well. Close proximity to Mentone and all the area has to offer. We would definitely love to return and explore more in this area. The cabin is located right near the state line with a respective time zone change, so be aware that your phone will keep changing time as you arrive and depart.

Relaxing and peaceful

We couldn't have asked for more! The cottage was all we needed. Quaint neighborhood and peaceful river and birds. The internet is slow and cells didn't work (as we were warned!), but that made it nice to get off the grid a bit. Highly recommend the trip to Cloudland Canyon! And after all that hiking, the hot tub and smores in the fire pit were perfect. :)

Easter Weekend

What a beautiful place to stay! The cabin is adorable and has plenty of room. It rained the entire time, but we didn’t care because we had a nice warm hot tub to relax in. We were able to cook full meals for four people using the cookware provided. Entire place was super clean. The Internet is slow, but it was OK for us. We were still able to contact our families, make phone calls and get a little work done. It was also nice to be able to use the DIRECTV for music. We will definitely all be back at different times with our families. Can’t Wait!!

Pick The Shire for your R&R vacay

We are from Florida and take a vacation every summer to a different state. I like to plan our vacations around waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The Shire was the perfect place for us. We love cozy cabins/cottages and this did not disappoint. Right on the river with kayaks to use. We also brought our own floats which were very relaxing on the river. Some of the nearby waterfalls were dried up due to lack of rain but I was happy to get to see 5. The Shire was was clean and came with a lot of amenities others don't offer. Holly was amazing by accommodating us for an extra night. She also helped us find The Shire since we punched in the wrong County Road (oops)! We would recommend The Shire for anyone looking for some R&R. They are very dog friendly as well with a chain link fence in the backyard. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

There were bugs and spiders, also not as clean as it should be. The rug in the livingroom was so dirty it should be replaced. Livingroom furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on.There were splatters on the window over the sink and food splatters on the side of the fridge.The entire place needs to be deep cleaned and trimming needs to be done along with other yard work. I realize it is in the woods and is pet friendly but it was not worth what we paid for the stay. I forgot to mention we had to wash the blanket before we could sleep under it, it had pubic hair on it, not good!!! We will not book this place again and we were celebrating my 77 birthday, there were times I just wanted to leave but we had paid for two nights so we toughed it out! Future renters beware.

Peaceful Weekend Birthday Getaway

I went August 15-16,2025 with my husband to celebrate our birthdays that we share close to this time. I loved the Shire! It’s close enough to town to grab a quick lunch or dinner at The Wildflower Cafe which was so quaint! ❤️ The little stone house offers the old farmhouse feels with everything you’ll need to cook, cozy blankets, grilling was a breeze with all you need, My favorite part was of course the kayaking during the day, and the hot tub at night! You just walk down the little path out back straight to the water! This location and this place as a whole was a SWEET SURPRISE offering peaceful tranquility and privacy along with all the comforts of home! I booked The Shire as a surprise getaway for my husband's 30th birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The cabin had everything we needed—super cozy, well-stocked, and in the most peaceful, private setting. Holly - our host- was responsive, communicative, and so wonderful to work with through all of my questions . We brought our two rescue pups along and they had the best time exploring and relaxing with us. We grilled, swam in the river during the day, and made s’mores under the stars at night—it was exactly the kind of relaxing escape we were hoping for. It’s such a beautiful spot to unwind and reconnect. We’re already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend The Shire if you’re looking for a quiet, scenic place to recharge!

Weekend getaway

We rented this cabin for this first time in March and could not wait to come back. We took the advantage of an opening Memorial Day weekend. Once again, the cabin and amenities did not disappoint!! We love the fenced in yard for out dog. He loves it as well. He loves to swim in the creek and chase sticks. It is in a quiet place with little to no traffic. The hot tub is awesome after a long hike. We plan to come back one weekend during the fall.

Perfect Family Getaway

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!
