This was a nice central location for boating and seeing Wellesley island, with adequate dock for our 24' boat. Spacious, great view, nice deck. Only thing was the appliances were a little quirky, but we got used to that. Would consider chiming here again!
If I could give this place a ten star rating I would. Location was awesome! In a cove; perfect for kayaking or floating and the ships going by were fun to watch in the river. The house provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A helpful tip would be to bring your own life jackets. We would stay here again.
My friends and I enjoyed the large porch to sit and watch the cargo ships and wildlife. Check in and check out was easy and Nate was responsive. (Goose?) hunting in full swing so be prepared for daybreak shots fired at this time of year. We also suggest a dresser or at least a folding luggage rack in a couple of the rooms since there wasn’t any place to put our clothes and things. Otherwise, we would recommend for the location alone. Thanks so much!
The home was generally great, the porch was large and lots of great seating with amazing views. Like a lot of waterside rentals it can use a bit of TLC, only real issue we encountered was very steep stairs to second floor that were a challenge as all 4 of us are 70-80 age range.
The one bedroom on first floor and sleeper couches helped with that issue.
This is a great place to stay..very spacious and what an amazing view of the river from a huge deck..the kitchen is very well stocked…good dockage and plenty of parking…can’t wait to go back!
We had a wonderful time. The bay is perfect for viewing boats, fishing and the pedal boats and kayaks were a bonus! The house was fully equipped, very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect. I highly recommend!
This rental home was great! We had a fantastic stay with our family. It's perfectly located to enjoy Alex Bay, Wellesley Island & Clayton or just sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the main channel. We would most definitely stay again!
Start with the view and add fishing, boating, location, and gracious amenities and you have a perfect vacation home. Easy access to grocery shopping and half way between Clayton and Alexandria Bay. We went down river to Alexandria to watch fireworks over the castle. Great time.
The property was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. It was nice that the cupboards were labeled in the kitchen. It had a nice view. It was nice sitting on the deck and watching the freighters go by.
A great set up with family room and deck views of the St Lawrence river. Much closer to the water then I thought which made it easy to get down to the kayaks and for throwing in a fishing line off the dock. Also liked how everything in the kitchen was labeled for easy reference when looking for mugs, silverware, dishes etc.
Great location for a getaway for 4 friends, enjoyed the games and puzzles provided . Stunning view of bridge and waterway from the deck. Easy to get to local towns. Just FYI there is no dishwasher. Owner addressed an issue with gas fireplace very promptly. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return.
Beautiful river and bridge views. Beautiful home and dock. Wake up to the river out of your bedroom ever day. Don’t be worried about the rules. Every Vrbo has them. Didn’t have any issues at all. Great stay well be back next year.
We enjoyed our stay at this vacation rental- the view is absolutely stunning. The rental is well taken care of and very clean. We had mostly everything we needed. We did think their rules/fees were a little excessive. However, we understood to a point because we are sure not everyone is respectful when it comes to renting spaces. With thay being said we think they could relax a little on that part. Communication with Property manager was good. They do have a septic system and did state not to over do it with laundry because its sensitive due to the bay, we are a family of 5 so having to do a few loads of laundry is always a must for us. Had to scale it back because of that. Over all our experience was positive and really enjoyed our stay.
Location: Perfect! Halfway between Clayton and Alex Bay. Tucked in a bay off the main channel. We didn't mind crossing the bridge to get on and off Wellesley Island.
Accommodations: This house was perfect for 4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 kids. Two bathrooms were a plus! Appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, A/C, and plenty of seating. Everything was clean, towels and linens were nice, furniture was comfy. The back deck area was wonderful!
Groceries: There is a new Price Chopper off the Alex Bay exit of 81 before you cross the TI Bridge. Very nice and big.
For the Fishermen: Swan Bay Resort directly across the river from Brown Bay (the location of this house) has a boat ramp. It is free to put in and out if you store your trailer in their storage area ($5 per day). There is gas multiple places including Alex Bay, French Creek, and elsewhere in the vicinity. The boat dock at the house is in need of repairs/renovation but it got the job done this time. There is also no electric (that we could find) at the dock for your trolling batteries.

Lovely but maintenance issues
I know area for 74 years. This rental is a gem of a location. I enjoy calm bays for kayaking. Magnificent first morning. Then our calm vacation crashed and we had to leave due to several misunderstandings. We chose it thru VRBO with the symbol Pet Friendly and brought our cat. Now the owners have added stronger warnings about no cats. But small print “dog” when looked at the posting. Never noted that pet friendly excluded our cat. Maintenance: Front storm door wouldn’t close. Leak in bathroom sink. Screen slider came out of the track and screening had pulled out from the channel that held it on one side. We couldn’t use that side of the large door for river breezes. Nate and Jennifer are owners but they are busy with other properties. Deborah handled our issues and accused us of lying and damaging the property. She was very rude and didn’t recognize that the leak which covered the bathroom floor happened immediately on day one. She accused us of pulling the cabinet away from the wall. I attempted to ask for help from VRBO to assist us in achieving a settlement so we could stay at least one of the 2 weeks. I was no longer able to talk to the owners. I assured owners that we meant no harm to Jennifer with her allergies. Deborah remained steadfastly rude and insulting by her complete lack of understanding of our innocent mistake in bringing our cat. I offered more money and cutting our stay in half. My husband moved in with kids I flew home with the cat. No vacation and $ gone.
This property sits nicely on the St. Lawrence with great views. It was clean, well-equipped, and could comfortably accommodate a large group (4 bedrooms, plus couches and 2 baths). Although there were no restaurants right on Wellesley Island, there were some good ones relatively close. The only area where I felt there could be some improvement is communication. Our departure day fell on a Monday, which is the day the trash can needs to be placed along the exterior paved road, (about an 1/8 mile via a gravel road). The instructions at the rental specifies the renter is to take the trash can to the roadway and then return it onto the property after the trash is picked up. We had an early flight and thus would not be able to return the trash can to the property after the trash was picked up. We sent two texts to Nathan the night before our departure explaining the situation. We never got a response back. Ultimately, we took the trash (and someone else's several bags of trash that was placed in the can) to the designated area of the paved road. Fortunately, I was able to contact the house cleaner who said she would take care of bringing the trash can back to the property.

Great Potential, needs some work
This home has so much potential but small things that would make it a more comfortable stay are overlooked.
The good:
This property is in a beautiful location on the River and the scenery can’t be beat. Plenty of linens and quality towels and enough room for a party of eight to coexist comfortably. The dartboard and shuffleboard area gave us something to do in the rain and the master bedroom has a gorgeous view of the River. The patio has plenty of seating.
The not so good:
Two of the three bedrooms do not have a closet or dresser There is literally nowhere to put your clothes accept to leave them in the suitcase. There are small cubby-like spaces that have cheap plastic slides in front of them which implies a closet, but are really storage cubbies that were being used for just that. It was not a space I would want to put clean clothes even if there were hangers, which there were not. The shades are very inexpensive throughout the house and do nothing to deter the 5am sunrises that the River is famous for.
The kitchen is not stocked for big meals, and the only colander was a metal one that was completely rusty. The coffee pot is an old school Mr. Coffee that takes forever to brew. A Keurig would be an inexpensive add that offers value as not everyone likes the same kind of coffee. Also, take note that this property does not have a dishwasher. The listing does not say that it does, but it didn’t even occur to me to check for this in the listing as I have never rented a home that didn’t have one.
The gas grill was unusable when we got there. The bottom was literally rusted out and it wouldn’t stay lit. The owner did replace it but it took three days. In the meantime we had to use a small charcoal grill which wasn’t ideal for feeding a large group.
Make note that while the patio has a ton of seating, all of it has cushions. If it rains, you are required according to the rules to put the cushions away. We had a lot of rain and therefore spent a lot of time pulling out and putting up cushions. Another inexpensive upgrade would be to replace at least some of the seating with Adirondack chairs.
The house has cameras on the exterior, including the patio. I guess I can understand given that it’s a rental property but it felt invasive and uncomfortable.
This is a beautifully located property and the owner was responsive to issues. As seasoned renters we expected a bit more at this price point.
